I adored this book so much. I love the premise of Harlow who happens to be starting a dating app running into an athlete Andy in New York City unbeknownst to her that he is in fact, a famous athlete. The connection between Harlow and Andy is sizzling from the start And you kind of feel a little raft when Andy goes back to Green Bay. I love how Andy shows up into Harlow‘s life and that they try to pursue the chemistry that is in between them. I laughed so hard at all of Harlow‘s friends and family slowly finding out about her mystery man and who he was, and the fact that she Did not know how famous he was until others told her. It’s just such a fun book from start to finish.
In Sara Ney’s newest book, Not Your Biggest Fan, Harlow James meets Andy Burke when he is purchasing some questionable chicken from a food truck outside Central Park in New York City. She tries to warn him, but he doesn’t listen. Cut to a few hours later, and they are sharing an elevator and Andy has food poisoning. What follows is a whirlwind date that leaves Harlow and Andy falling in love. Unfortunately, they live in different states and neither wants a long-distance relationship, so they go their separate ways. However, Andy knows that what they have is special, and he is willing to make massive changes to see if it could work. First though, he needs to clear up a few pesky lies that he told Harlow…
Sara Ney is a great writer; she incorporates humor and passion in her narrative in a way that is unique and instantly recognizable (if you are familiar with her work). The meet-cute-that-turns-out-not-to-be-so-cute is hilarious. Food poisoning is no joke, but I’m glad Harlow and Andy find the humor in the occasion. While the story is fun and lighthearted, it did feel a little rushed and not believable. I just couldn’t understand why a man with Andy’s level of fame would rearrange his life after spending one day with Harlow and texting her for a few days. I think there needed to be more interactions with Andy and Harlow, over a few months perhaps, so that Andy changing his life would make more sense.
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for sharing this advanced review copy with me in exchange for my honest feedback!
While I really enjoyed the sports theme of this book and the dual point of view, there were parts that made me cringe. It was a little too insta love.
I did read this book very quickly and enjoyed it overall.
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for providing an ARC.
This was a quick, cute rom-com with a tonne of banter and instalove. Harlow and Andy have their meet-cute and a large part of the plot is that she has no idea that he is a famous athlete. While Andy navigates which team he should sign with, he can’t help but think that the best place to be is right beside Harlow. Now if only he can convince her of that.
The banter is definitely the best part of this book. The back and forth was a lot of fun, especially via the text messages. I also think the latter half of the book is where the book really shone.
Where it fell short for me was that I wanted a bit more depth to the characters. There wasn’t much conflict so it felt like there were few stakes. It made for a light read so if that is the vibe you need then definitely read.
really enjoyed reading this! i wish it were a bit longer and not so insta lovely but alas i still had a lot of fun reading and love anything sara writes
Fun! I love how these two met. I enjoyed the banter and the friend group. The dad ... the dog... crazy! The only thing I wish for is that we got more of them as an actual couple after Harlow found out about Andy. I wanted to see her navigate being a famous football players girlfriends as the girl next door. Overall...a fun book.
A chance meeting in New York, a warning not to eat from a food truck. Staying in the same hotel, bumping into each other in the lift.
Besotted sports star persuses girl. She's normal, has a job and doesn't recognise him.
A romantic pursuit, a famous ex, meddling family and curious friends.
Fingers crossed for HEA. Funny and enjoyable.
3.5 stars
This really wasn't great literature, but I had a fantastic time. I read it super fast, which I guess could either be good or bad but for me was good. Like, it had some sort of crack in it. Definitely read this if you just want something quick and funny.
I wanted to like this book more, but overall I have pretty mixed feelings. I really liked the beginning with the banter and chemistry between the characters, but beyond that the pacing did not feel consistent throughout the whole book.
’m not a sports person, but I love a sports rom-com. Sassy Midwest girl meets hot Football star? Sold. Except…I’m not buying chicken from a food truck ever again. LOL
I really enjoyed this book. It took me a while to understand some of the dynamics of the town, but I found it a refreshing and light read, but with just enough spice, like all the novels Sara writes.
Thank you Netgalley for an early read of this football romance. I enjoyed this one but there are parts throughout the story that made me cringe a little. Some of the internal dialogue from Andy didn't sit well with me, like was trying to be macho . I also felt like Harlow overreacted a little more than usual in parts. The meet cute between Andy and Harlow wasn't as much "cute" (but it was definitely a meet cute you don't forget!). I liked the development of the two characters but feel like it was almost too "insta-lovey". Overall, I think it is a cute romance that fans will enjoy!
It absolutely pains me to say that i wasn't the biggest fan of this book. I have loved Sara Ney since the HOW TO DATE A DOUCHEBAG days - I've read everything she has written, but this just wasn't for me. The fact that I love Sara tells me that the issues with this book are purely mine, and I am sure everyone else will love it.
Funny characters like always the neighbor girl reminds me of the teanager from hard pass who used to walk their dog too. I always enjoy the quirky characters
I really liked this book from Sarah Ney. The banter between Harlow and Andy was spot on. I knew Andy was a keeper when he showed up at Harlow’s door and the reaction from her dad made me laugh out loud. Sarah has a way to make her characters come to life and be humorous, while telling their story. A definite five star read for me.
3/5 stars
Didn't love it, but was still an enjoyable romance! I wanted to love this one so badly and the first half was a 5 star, last 3rd really fell a bit flat but you might disagree!
Still a huge fan of Sara and everything she writes
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
How do you know who would become a new favorite writer for you? when you can't put the book down and each paragraph leaves you with a smile or a different emotion.
.
Sara Ney created two characters so different that when you read each point of view you understand where they come from and how they can be in two very different worlds, but when they cross paths and interact it is pure chemistry and what remains of each exchange is just perfection.
.
Harlow is in New York dealing with important meetings to launch her perfectly curated dating app. But when she see a stranger about to make a serious mistake in Central Park , she put aside her attitude “wherever you are…” and warn him that he is going to make a big mistake and get sick.
.
Of course, when the stranger decides to prove her wrong, she doubles down and tells him that if he doesn't get sick, he can look for her and she will buy him dinner, but if she's right, he's going to pay.
.
What would never have occurred to her is that she would see him again in the big city where she stays just for some days, but fate have other ideas and she see him a few hours later in the lobby of her hotel.
.
mistaken identity is usually a bit tricky but Sara Ney manages to maintain it very well throughout the book. And the secondary characters are so well presented that I simply can't help but think about what awaits them in the next books, I hope there are many books to come
.
If you like sport romance, small towns, opposites that attract, and conversations through chats that are so wholesome, you are going to love this book and you are going to want to read more .
.
Thanks to Sara Ney, her team and Montlake for give me a copy of this beautiful book in exchange for my honest and voluntary opinion
Definitely witty, this book was full of fun, smile inducing banter. I have to admit that I didn’t see the love there- definitely chemistry or the physical kind but deeper emotions did not feel characterized well in my opinion. That said, I adored the back and forth with the snark and amusing dialogue, Harlow and Andy were awesome characters and overall, it was a fun time. Thanks to the publisher, author and NetGalley for an early read!
🍗 not your biggest fan 🍗
If you’re looking for a fun book, this is a good pick.
I had some great laughs with it if I’m honest. It’s a little corny for my tastes but this book has some farts/sh!t jokes and sorry but I found them funny 😂.
Andy and Harlow met in a very unique way - insert some of the farts jokes - he orders chicken food from a street vendor in New York which she advised him not to eat it but he’s stubborn and does it. They made a bet if he don’t get sick or sh!t himself, he comes find her and she’ll buy him dinner. If it’s the otherwise he owns her. He indeed gets sick.
Harlow really thought she wouldn’t she him again but then they run into one another and he invites her dinner and their story begins.
This is a fun book just to hang out so don’t expect deep thoughts and in my humble opinion the drama was unnecessary - I don’t like exes drama involving so that’s on me but yeah the drama was quick and then everyone lives happily ever after.
Did I enjoy it? Yes.
I’d like to thank NetGalley for the Arc.
