It took me a little bit to get in The Curiosities of Percival Harper, but once I did I enjoyed this immensely.
This book has some serious world building, that I enjoy because it paints a picture for readers to be transported into.
The character development was good, but since this is only the first book, you've got to save some so you have places to go. Some characters are quite mysterious, some don't appear so at first and then shift. This keeps you wanting more.
The multiple points of view help to move the story along. As you get invested in what's happening with one person, it changes to another so you try to read quickly to get back and then realize you're now invested in something else. It's done quite well.
I ended this, and immediately went to see if and when book 2 is out. I can't wait for the second one.
I give this a 4.75 rounded up.
Thanks so much to Netgalley and Cranthorpe Millner Publisher for making this ARC available.
I thought this was very good and I will have to add this to the shop shelves. Thank you for the chance for us to review.
This book is full of magic and mystery. Full of world building and character building and plenty of suspense. Great fantasy read.
I like it but it did felt it was definitly slow, this is not a book of tension but has a lot of magic and mystery and it's very well build I did love that, the author did an amazing job in making me imagine that I was emerging in this world.. And I did escape myself for a while there
This was not just a slow burn but a reeeeaaaaaaallllllllllyyyyyyyy slow burn. I was interested in the story which was why I kept reading but if I hadn't been, I would have DNF'd real quick. I ended up being happy I kept up because I loved the magical and mystery elements. The writing was immersive once it picked up and set a really nice tone for the rest of the book.
"The curiosities of Perciville Harper" is a fantasy book of an often used trope. Protagonist lives in small town, a strange out of towner arrives, and sets off an adventure to figure out a puzzle, fulfill your destiny, ir save someone. In a different Vvane Fjona wants to become a sages, figure out a mystery and a curse. Not a mage or warrior.
The books started off VERY SLOW. I've never DFF'd but was very close because the story seemed uninteresting & pointless, but the story progresses quickly and once the journey begins its unique magic and slight twists.
I'd like to thanks Simon for the ability to read book and am glad I finished it. I'd like to see another installment quickly.
