Oh gosh, how to review this moving read?
So emotional, with folks and their different need.
There’s pregnancy problems, family dramas and more
As love, loss, jealousy and grief all cause furore.
Danni is a doctor in A&E
She’s also pregnant as readers soon see!
Treating patients and staying safe and calm
Endeavouring to right and harm.
Wendy works in the hospital, too,
She’s worried her daughters prefer their Dad’s partner who’s new.
His partner is Chloe and she’s pregnant, too,
And only a few years older than her daughters, what a to do!
A story showing assumptions may often be wrong
And unlikely folks may get along.
It is also about counting your blessings, too,
Making sure you appreciating those you love who also love you.
A drama filled story dealing with issues galore
As lessons in love the characters explore.
For my copy of this book I say thank you
As I share with you this, my honest review.

We are back at St Piran’s Hospital and the fourth instalment of the Cornish Country Hospital series. This time we are back with Danni and she’s expecting a baby with Charlie. We also meet some new characters like Chloe, Wendy and Gary.
Oh this story had my heart from the very beginning. I loved being back with Danni’s journey to parenthood. As well as getting a story with Wendy and her ex husband’s new partner Chloe who she is jealous of but this story certainly has plenty of twists and turns too.
Jo just has a way of making me want to be a part of the communities she creates. They are beautiful and wholesome. She touches on some tough topics too, but with such sensitivity and awareness. I honestly didn’t want to leave everyone at St Piran’s hospital to be honest. I wasn’t expecting the story to go the way it did and I loved that 🥰💖
I highly recommend you read the whole series so far but especially ‘Lessons in Love at the Cornish Country Hospital’ it’s full of love, family and unexpected friendships 🤗
Thank you again Jo for including me in your long list in the acknowledgments this always brings a tear to my eyes. I adore all of your books and that’s never going to change ♥️

Life after divorce can be hard especially if the ex's partner is now expecting a baby.
Once again this story is crafted with compassion interwoven with a realism of life working in a hospital and challenges that those carers face not just in work but personally too.
Another lovely tale.

4.5⭐️
This feels like Casualty, Grey’s Anatomy and Chicago Med all rolled into one. It was bloody brilliant and amazing.
It follows the stories of the workers at St. Piran Hospital. Wendy who has conflicting feelings about her kids’ closeness to her ex-husband’s partner.
Danni who is expecting and has unresolved feelings towards her mother. There are also minor characters who made some appearances.
It just felt like watching a medical drama. The descriptions of scenes from the Emergency Department and the cases of the various patients who come into through the doors were top notch.
This was perfectly written. The author captured the vulnerability of the characters and their emotions, actions and interactions were relatable and accurately reflected.
I had an issue trying to catch up with the so many names/ relationships and I think it would help if the previous books in the series are read.
If you love medical dramas and don’t mind reading them on the pages of a book then you will enjoy this.

Barlett's books are always a welcome distraction and Lessons in Love, the fourth in the series was just what the doctor ordered!
I love returning to Cornwall and St Pirans. All the best books are based in Cornwall aren't they?
The characters are always so lovely and it feels like we're returning to visit old friends and it's always a plus to catch up with the Cornish Midwives too - which incidentally is another fab series by Barlett.
A gorgeous, heartwarming read with family and friendships at it's core.
I finished reading last night and thoroughly enjoyed every second.
Many thanks to Rachel's Random

This is another fantastic series from Jo Bartlett so I was keen to see what everyone is doing in the fourth book set at St Pirans Hospital.
This time we focus on Wendy and her family; rekindling love with a childhood sweetheart following a difficult divorce leaves her feeling both very lucky and extremely happy, but she cannot help but feel pangs of hurt when her ex-husbands new girlfriend becomes close to her two daughters.
After initially feeling jealous of his young girlfriend Chloe’s bond with, she starts to see that actually Chloe isn’t the issue. Wendy’s family issues actually all go back to their Dad and his inability to commit to anything or anyone. When Chloe finds herself at her lowest and in need of support, Wendy finds herself stepping up to be the one Chloe can lean on. As the life they all know starts to unravel, can Wendy figure out a way to help everyone who needs it.
We also catch up with favourites from previous books. Danni’s pregnancy is nearing the end, she is excited about creating their own little family but also worry sets in that she will be like her own mother and not feel much of a maternal bond. She knows she can love, as she adores her Charlie but she is afraid that motherly love she craved as a child will pass her by as well.
When a situation escalates, Danni’s love is tested more than ever. Her dream has turned into a nightmare and she relies on the help of her friends and colleagues to make it end. Wendy has tried to do the best by everyone but has she missed signs of things being so dreadfully wrong, has she let everyone down?
A rollercoaster of emotions throughout, this tear-jerker will break your heart but also repair it. The community within the book is it’s heart, the friendships and relationships between characters are special. Some serious, upsetting themes used throughout but done so sensitively.
Another wonderful visit to this special, Cornish hospital/community.

Returning to the Cornish Country hospital, and to this special corner of Cornwall, is like meeting up again with old friends as we once again enter through the doors of St Piran’s to find all is activity and hustle and bustle. In this story we follow two characters Danni, the A &E doctor, as she meets the challenges which come her way and also we discover more about hospital housekeeper, Wendy, who has lots going on in her personal life, including being a rock of support to Chloe who is her ex-husband’s new partner.
The story draws a complex web highlighting the importance of love in all its forms, whether it be between partners, or between those people who aren’t related, and yet who become as important as family. The author weaves these intricate relationships so well and with such attention to detail that the characters come alive and it becomes easy to have an emotional connection, not just to the story but also to the characters themselves. With a realistic hospital setting also thrown into the mix the story tackles some difficult medical issues but does so in a considerate and sympathetic way which doesn’t detract from the overall enjoyment of the story.
With love, loss, friendship and motherhood at its core, Lessons in Love at the Cornish Country Hospital once again shows the absolute strength and overall appeal of these delightful novels.

Lessons in Love at the Cornish Country Hospital is book #4 in the Cornish Country Hospital series by Jo Bartlett.
This is the first book I’ve read in this series and by this author. I had no trouble reading this as a standalone. This was an emotional book that I was drawn into immediately. I like the supportiveness between characters. It felt real with Wendy’s concerns about her daughters and Chloe. I really enjoyed this book and plan to catch up on this series.
Thank you to the author, Boldwood Books, and NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Lovely book with a few visits from the ladies from the midwife series which also adds to the fun if you have read those books.
Wendy is trying to get on with life even though her ex husband is now expecting a baby with his new girlfriend who is almost as young as her daughters. After meeting chloe at the hospital while she is having tests she gets chatting to her and can't help but like her. Chloe is struggling big time can she be the bigger person and help her.
Lovely story.

This book centers on Wendy, a hospital housekeeper navigating life after a difficult divorce. Now in a stable relationship, she struggles with body image issues and the fact that her daughters prefer spending time with her ex-husband’s younger, pregnant girlfriend, Chloe. Despite her insecurities, Wendy steps in to support Chloe during a tough moment at the hospital, showing her compassion. Meanwhile, Danni, a senior doctor, is balancing her demanding job while preparing for motherhood, with rising stress due to her lack of a support network. The story is filled with well-written drama, heartbreaking moments, and lovely instances of lightness and laughter, making it a perfect balance of emotion. The depth of the research adds realism to the medical and personal challenges the characters face. With its strong emotional connection, warmth, and humor, the book is a true page-turner, keeping readers engaged until its uplifting conclusion.

I really enjoyed this story and the characters, Jo has done magic with her words and creativeness. I don't usually go for hospital reads but she has me convinced they are definitely worth reading.

Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for a change to read "Lessons in Love at the Cornish Country Hospital" in exchange for my honest review.
There are many characters whose lives are interconnected in this story. A lot of people who go out of their way to care for others, even when it isn't easy. There are many trigger points in this story, which were very sensitively written about - infidelity, second families, friendships, loyalties, and of course, the ever helpful canine characters who add warmth to the story as well.

Blurb
A broken bond…
Wendy Tyler’s marriage ended when she discovered her ex-husband, Mike, had got his much younger new partner, Chloe, pregnant. Wendy’s over Mike, but suddenly she fears her own daughters will find a new baby much more exciting that their old mum…
A chance encounter…
But when Wendy bumps into Chloe at St Piran’s, it’s clear something is troubling the fragile young woman. Wendy doesn’t want to be sucked into Chloe and Mike’s relationship, but she can’t help worrying that Chloe needs someone to turn to.
A lesson in love.
And when Wendy realizes that Chloe is more fragile than any of them realised, she knows she has to step up. She might not love Mike anymore, but Chloe is about to join their family and Wendy can’t just stand by. Sometimes life is hard, but the easiest lessons are built on a solid foundation of love.
My Opinion
This was such a sweet read and I finished it in one sitting. Whilst this is part of a series I have read it as a standalone and I was able to follow along without any issues. Jo Bartlett has written such an emotional book that it may be worth having some tissues near when you read this.
Having enjoyed this one I now feel like I need to go back and get to know the rest of the characters.
Rating 4/5

One of the many things I love about this series is the way individuals I already feel I know fairly well – this time it’s Wendy, who works in housekeeping at the hospital – are allowed to take their turn in the spotlight, while others simply step back a little, their own stories continuing. I really must stress though that every book in this series would be entirely readable as a standalone – quite a difficult thing to achieve, but the author does it so perfectly.
Wendy really went through the mill with her cheating ex-husband Mike, but she’s finally found a happier relationship – a partner she can trust, even consider marrying. But she does have her worries – a few real issues with her body image, and concerns that her teenage daughters are wanting to spend more time with her ex’s pregnant (and considerably younger) girlfriend Chloe than they are with her. Despite her insecurities, always easy to empathise with, she has concerns for Chloe too, particularly knowing Mike’s shortcomings – and when she runs into her at the hospital, there alone and having a particularly difficult time, she doesn’t hesitate to step forward and offer her support.
Life goes on in St Piran’s emergency department, the usual round of people needing help at a low point in their lives, and where Danni is now emergency medicine consultant and the most senior doctor on shift. Treating every patient as an individual and giving them her usual exceptional level of service – along with her equally caring team – she’s now approaching the point when she needs to think of herself for a change, her blood pressure rising as she nears her time to become a mother. And she has particular concerns about the absence of her own support network at the time when she needs it the most.
As you’d expect, there’s much more to the story – the author’s emotional touch is, as always, quite perfect as we become entangled with the complications in the lives of Wendy, Chloe, and Danni herself. There’s a considerable amount of drama – so very well written, and that had me on the edge of my seat – and a fair measure of particularly heartbreaking moments. But although the tears were often not very far away, there are also those lovely moments of lightness and laughter – and the amazing warmth that always features strongly in her lovely writing. The depth of her research is very evident, bringing every scenario and challenging issue to life in a wholly realistic way – and the whole story was a particular page-turner, unputdownable until its especially uplifting ending.
This series is something really special, and this book was full of individuals I really cared about, navigating their way through life’s challenges, and touching me to the heart. And I’d certainly wholeheartedly recommend this book – see if you can stop at just one, if the series is new to you – which had absolutely everything I love about the author’s writing.

Lessons in Love at the Cornish Country Hospital by Jo Bartlett.
I loved the cover of this book. This is the first book I've read in this series. I got into it straight away. I read this in one sitting. I couldn't put it down. The setting sounded stunning. I did like Wendy, Chloe, and Danni. This was definitely an emotional read. I did end up reaching for the tissues. I did love the ending. I will definitely be looking forward to reading more from this author.

This series is so brilliant and I am flying through it, I no longer finish the book and I am desperate for the next as I am with this one. It's a addition that has added even more love from me for the characters. This one focuses on Wendy and her feelings and relationship with her ex husbands girlfriend who is pregnant with her baby. Wendy understandably has quite strong feelings against Chloe especially because of the close relationship Chloe has with Wendy's daughter's. Danni and Charlie are excitedly awaiting the arrival of their baby and we see all of the much loved characters at some stage in the book. I felt so much drama and emotion was plotted in the story which kept me excited and eager to keep reading too learn the outcome. I find medical and hospital settings interesting and I enjoy reading about the ones in the Cornish Country Hospital A&E (St Piran's).

A lovely return to a series that feels like returning to old friends. Never afraid to tackle difficult issues,I thoroughly enjoyed this.

As with all the books in this series, the author creates a relatable medical environment and believable characters in which you invest. Several characters we met in previous stories are featured, but it mainly focuses on Wendy, her family, and Danni. Both stories involve pregnancy and difficult childhoods. Wendy's character develops in a heartwarming and positive way when she confronts her past and puts the feelings and needs of others before hers. Danni's story is equally compelling, and the strength of female relationships and supportive partners is explored well in this story. I like the storytelling, the medical environment, the supportive relationships, and the community, which is authentic and absorbing to read about.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

Another fabulous book from Jo continuing the Cornish Country Hospital series. The book had me hooked from the first couple of chapters, as sure sign I would enjoy it.

Wow what an emotional ride from Jo Bartlett. This series is just getting better and better with each title written.
I loved the two stories in this one - Chloe and Danni have such differing experiences but the love and support around them is so touching. The impact Wendy has on the story is so important and I loved her relationships with the young women.
Jo’s characters are always so well written and their experiences brought tears to my eyes on many occasions in this one.
Love, loss and friendship such important themes and Jo covers them so sensitively and with such love and compassion.
