This book was a great way to learn about John DeLorean and the DeLorean company. I always wondered exactly how he decided to create his own company and all the obstacles he faced and this book does a great job of reflecting all the challenges he faced. It also delves into the creation of the car and all the effort required to bring it to fruition. It was such an interesting read and together with all the pictures showing the cars and how it came together was fascinating. Also really cool to see everything his daughter is doing in honor of her father. Definitely check this out if you’re interested in cars or want to read a good founder story.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc.
If you have ever seen a DeLorean, you know it’s special. The gull wing doors that lift to the sky, the shining stainless steel chassis, the leather interior…a totally different concept car. DeLorean the book is about DeLorean the man. John Zachary DeLorean, a gifted, handsome designer who rose to the top in the car industry, then left to follow his dream of making a car like no other. Everything about the DeLorean was different from its construction in war torn Belfast, Ireland to its splashy debut. The creation of the dream car parallels John DeLorean’s life, his rise and spectacular fall. This book is well researched, well written and full of photographs of the cars and advertisements. John DeLorean was ahead of his time. 5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, Quarto Publishing Group – Motorbooks and Matt Stone for this ARC.
I can’t think of a better book for DeLorean enthusiasts. It is well-researched, all encompassing and well put together. I might be a 10% biased because of the car’s significance in my personal history. If you are interested cars, DeLorean, Back to the Future series, history/car production history and history of the industries in Northern Ireland, you will enjoy this book.
