All I want for Christmas - felt rushed, there was a lot happened to the 2 of them in the space of a week (?). I was taken completely out of the story when they decided to make snow angels in Piccadilly Gardens in the middle of Manchester. I've been in Manchester during a snow storm and at no point did it feel like a good idea to lie on the floor, even covered in snow.
Last Christmas - DNF at the mention of "Kenergy" in chapter 1. Given this is a reprint (based on the copyright details) it's obviously been edited to include that reference.
Under the Mistletoe - again felt rushed but was a very quick read. It felt like American/English stereotypes - complete with confusion over mince pies and a rich family having a Christmas Eve ball (especially as Dom should have offered up a ball gown, someone over from America isn't going to have an appropriate dress for a "ball".) - plus an evil stepmother and evil rich ex-girlfriend.
Not for me. It took me almost 2 months to pick this up again after reading the first story. It was only because the ebook was going to expire that I even tried to carry on reading.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced ebook copy.
Fab read, three festive reads to get you in the mood for christmas. A great wat to find some new authors.
This is a three in one bargain! The first book is run through with humour. Ella is orphaned and bruised about love and connecting with people. Joe is in love with travelling and being away and not going into the family business. Their story is tender and based on a short term affair. It is peppered by accidents, terrible children’s parties and balloons animals which definitely entertain.
Book two is on the odd side, rather scatty and all over the place. Candy pretending to,live somewhere else, code names and secret messaging alongside very scatty friends. The romance is kind of there but this is more an eclectic mix of events and people and they might like each other, but might not. Not a hit with me.
The third book is all about Ness whose mother sends her from Brooklyn to England so she can spend time with her new beau. The Ness is the caretakers daughter and mingles with the folk up at the big house. The book is short and whilst there are some great bits in a hot pool and escaping a storm, the unravelling is very quick and suddenly all issues are resolved in a heart beat. I missed a slow denouement with explanations
The first book is by far the best read here.
I feel guilty giving this book a bad review. But here goes!
I got 50% through this book then DNF but I read so much of it that I deserve it as a read count. It reads like a 13 year old diary entry or fan fic.
I stopped at yippe-Kai-yikes and I cant believe I continued after “he said Scottishly”
Unfortunately this was not the fun, sweet and sexy Christmas stories I hoped to read. I hope someone else finds more interesting.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review.
Thank you to Netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
Based on the blurb I thought this would be a cute, fun set of Christmas novellas. I read the first and made it a couple of chapters into the second before I had to DNF. The stories and characters fell completely flat for me, I didn’t buy any chemistry between the characters and was bored.
