My first book by this author. It is part of a series but can read as a stand alone. I found the Scottish wording a bit confusing. Not my cup of tea, love, rivalry and crime families but well written

I’m a big fan of gangland crime thrillers, and always have a great time reading them, and this was no exception.

I have read a couple of this author’s books but this is the first one in this series (this is #4) about the Savage Family, and I really enjoyed it. This can be a standalone, as you become aware of what has gone on in the previous books.

The story opens, as Carly Savage and her sisters, Jane and Rose, are attending their father Alec’s funeral. The family work for the handsome, and dangerous new crime boss, Jack Alexander who runs Haghill in Glasgow, Scotland, who just so happens to be Carly’s ex-boyfriend, and the love of her life.

Carly is now the manager of a bar called Death Loves Company, and is trying to stay out of the “life”, but with her family connections, keeps being dragged back into it. When she and her family are threatened, there’s only one thing she can do…which isn’t to lead a quiet life.

This is such a blast, and I was definitely not expecting that ending. I can’t wait to read the others in this series, and eagerly await Heather’s next instalment.

Thanks to Heather Atkinson, Boldwood Books, and NetGalley, for providing me with this free ARC, with which I leave a voluntary review.

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I quite enjoyed this book , having read a lot of Martina Cole I thought I’d enjoy it more than I did . The story and characters were interesting and maybe I would have been more glued to it if I’d read the previous book. I give this book 3 stars

A fantastic gangland story. It was full of revenge, cruelty and love thrown into the mix. I hope there’s another book in the pipeline, can’t wait to find out what’s in store for the Savage family.

Wow please don't say this is the end of the savage sisters because the end of this book SPUN ME!! I was left gobsmacked, it had my mind all over like a psychological thriller. The story as always was amazing. I love the sisters, each of them for a different reason and this book made me love Rose even more. She's become so feisty and refuses to back down and I'm here for it! The love story intertwining between Carly, Jack and Dean I thought was beautiful and amicably untangled and seeing Jack's softer side more was beautiful. Even when I've always been team Carly and Dean this book changed my mind. As always I love all the savages and peanut and Derek. Jack really became a favourite character in this book. The plot was crazy and it had me hooked I honestly couldn't stop thinking about it. Even during my mammogram my doctor said I looked miles away and I was just like 'oh yeah I'm trying to figure out a plot twist in a book I'm reading' as always I love their Scottish accent and seeing their slang brings back lots of memories. I truly hope we haven't seen the last of the savages. Now that would be a crime!!

A Savage Inheritance by Heather Atkinson plunges readers into the dark and thrilling world of gangland dynamics. It is the second in the series, which I was not aware of until the end of the book. With intricate plot twists and morally complex characters, the novel explores the brutal realities and consequences of a life entangled in crime with a sprinkle of romance.

This book is a gripping read for fans of gangland thrillers, as well as romantics, depicting how the allure of power and wealth often comes at a significant cost.

I must give a trigger warning to those who do not like graphic violence, this book is not for you.

Jack is depicted as a hardened gang leader, driven by ambition and a desire to maintain control over his empire. His actions are ruthless, and his relationships are fraught with tension. Despite his tough exterior, Jack's vulnerabilities and internal conflicts make him a compelling character. He is madly in love with Carly.

Willing to do about anything to win back her affections. His character highlights the theme that love does not always prevail, as his affection for Carly is constantly tested by their dangerous environment.

But how will this clash with his responsibilities as the leader of the gang? And they all know that you do not just quit the lifestyle.

Carly is a character that embodies both strength and vulnerability. She has left the gangland lifestyle, struggling to find her place in the real world. But how can she protect the ones she loves when she is no longer in the life? Her loyalty to family often puts her at odds with her personal desires and safety. Should she leave the family home all together and pursue her dreams of happiness?

Dean Savage stands out as a complex figure within A Savage Inheritance, embodying the inherent conflicts that arise from a life steeped in crime. Initially depicted as a loyal and ambitious member of the gang, Dean grapples with the expectations placed upon him by his surroundings and his desire for a more meaningful existence. He develops an unhealthy infatuation with his cousin Carly. I know, weird, creepy whatever you want to call it.

The plot of A Savage Inheritance centers around the tumultuous lives of Jack, Carly, and Dean as they navigate the treacherous waters of their gangland existence. The narrative weaves through their personal, professional and love interests struggle, illustrating the toll that a life of crime takes on their relationships and individual psyches.

The story is filled with suspense and dramatic turns that keep readers on the edge of their seats, questioning the stability and future of each character's life. And do not worry, there are plenty of action and fight scenes.

Heather Atkinson masterfully portrays the grim reality of gang life, making A Savage Inheritance an engaging and thought-provoking read. The novel's key themes— the unsustainable nature of a gangland lifestyle, the complexity of family and work relationships, and the often-unfulfilled promise of love—are powerfully conveyed through the characters' experiences.

While the gangland world may seem thrilling from the outside, Atkinson's narrative makes it clear that this lifestyle comes at a great cost. It is a stark reminder that the pursuit of power and control can lead to devastating consequences.

For fans of gangland thrillers, this book offers a deep and realistic portrayal of crime's impact on personal lives, making it a must-read. If you are looking for a story that combines intense action with emotional depth, A Savage Inheritance won't disappoint.

I have enjoyed every book in this series, but this one is a very addictive read with a few shocks' twists. Carley and her sisters are in their father. who they loved very much. but then someone starts targeting Carley. Jack still loves Carley, and he will do everything to protect her, but someone is using Jacks name to get what they want, the savage family have to work out who they can trust. I cried at the end of this book I do hope there is more yet to come from this series.

The Savage family are back with a bang. Haghill is still reeling from the deaths of the previous leaders. Jane and the unbeatable bitches and her uncle and cousins are top of the pile. Carly is grieving for her dad who recently died and she’s trying to keep out of the family business managing a pub instead.
She’s still confused s out her feelings for her cousin Dean and the new boss Jack Alexander.
But when the chips are down she’s still a Savage and family will always come first.
Explosive and well written love this series

When you say gangland crime, you say Heather Atkinson! This lady really knows how to write the way I like books in this genre to be written!

The punches are flying left, right and center with the Savages either starting the fight or being on the receiving end. Their goal always being the same: to protect their family.

What I also like in this series is the fact that the woman have no problem at all to stand their ground, never backing away even if their adversary is bigger and stronger or if they are outnumbered. They are fierce and feisty and always go all the way.

Between the battles or sometimes even during, there is room for some banter, which always makes me laugh.

And last but not least, the waterworks were activated too...

If you like the genre, you will agree this is an excellent series with each book being a fine piece of art. 5 stars

Thank you
