Woah what a book! Hooked from page one I found that there was absolutely no way of knowing what direction this was going to take. Harper is slowly gaining confidence to live again after the death of her husband Charlie two years previously. With encouragement from her best friend Megan, she signs up to dating site IntoYou. The story follows Harper as she navigates the various dates she goes in and also starts to realise that late husband Charlie had secrets….. This had me guessing right up to the very end. If you like a psychological thriller this is definitely one for you! The added bonus for me is that I live in the area of Norfolk that the book is set in so very familiar with the locations. Thanks to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for the ARC
It’s fast paced, exciting, suspenseful! A page turner that held my interest until I finished it in one sitting. It’s the story of Bailey, widowed and withdrawn. When her best friend encourages her to join an online dating service, she meets several men. Along the way she uncovers dark secrets about her diseased husband. This is the tale of the good, the bad and the ugly!
WOW! If this isn't a book to brag about I don't know what is... I started it late last night. Never did I anticipate I would be closing the book at 1am left in complete shock... This book was insane! It was twisted, it was gripping but it was so darn good!
Harper lost her husband Charlie two years ago in a fatal car crash. Since then, she has lived as a recluse in their country house with only her dog for company. The more Harper stays inside her house the more scared and anxious she becomes to go out. Having left London for a better quality of life, Harper left her friends and old life behind including her best friend Megan, with whom she still regularly checks in.
Megan encourages Harper to join a dating app, which will get her out of the house and possibly meet a new partner. After some promising matches Harper agrees to meet the men in a series of dates but they turn out to be disappointing, and not what they seemed online.
Strange things start happening to Harper, she feels somebody has been in her house and she hears noises outside at night. Harper takes action to feel more secure, having security cameras fitted but this doesn’t stop whoever is trying to scare her. Harper decides to start clearing her late husbands' belongings and discovers that he had a separate life away from her, one that she knew nothing about. Lots of secrets are revealed in this rollercoaster of a thriller.
A great book which had me on the edge of my seat. Full of twists and surprises. With a gripping plot and lots of mystery and suspense.
My thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Cottage By The Sea’ written by Keri Beevis in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Harper Reed’s husband Charlie died in a car crash with her best friend Alicia in the car. Two years later Harper feels ready to move on and removes all of Charlie’s possessions from their house, but it isn’t until she joins a dating site ‘IntoYou’ that strange things start to happen and she discovers that Charlie isn’t the husband she thought he was.
‘The Cottage By The Sea’ is a twisty thriller that’s crammed full of suspense and increasing tension as Harper realises someone has been in her house, removed underwear and read her private journal. I’ve been gripped from page one needing to know who’s responsible for following her, damaging a security light and plant pots but dreading what the person has planned for Harper next. Although I wanted to get to the end to find out which, if any, of the men Harper met were responsible for what was happening, there were times the plot was so scary I didn’t want to turn the lights out at night. This is a compelling rollercoaster of a thriller that I thoroughly enjoyed reading and can definitely recommend it.
Keri does it again this was a great read with a bit of everything suspense mystery and horror a great page turner that I couldn't put down at times would definitely recommend
Holy Moly! What a gripping, addictive, and shocking ride! The Cottage by the Sea grabbed my attention from the very first page and never let go! I had a very difficult time putting this book down as I was glued to this jaw dropping page turner!
Starting over after a horrible loss when her husband and best friend were killed in a car accident, Harper has taken the plunge with online dating. It's been two years of grief, wondering why her friend and husband were together in the car, but Harper if finally ready to dip her toe in the dating pool. After going on a few dates, strange things begin to happen - very strange and uncomfortable things...
Wowza! Keri Beevis has wowed me yet again! I enjoyed how Harper was tentative about dating again after the death of her husband and friend. It's hard to put yourself out there and I thought the author did a great job depicting this. From the dates to the feeling of being watched, I was fully invested. I found my heart beating a little faster along with Harper when she felt she was being watched or if someone had come onto her property.
This book had enough tension, dread, suspense, and secrets to make my head spin. There were also plenty of twists and turns along the way that had me wondering who could be trusted, and how things would turn out. I had fun trying to narrow down my suspect as I kept changing my mind about characters. I enjoyed getting Harpers' POV as well as the person toying with her. Getting the sinister creepy character's POV provided some eerie and creepy vibes to the book as well.
If you have not read a book by Keri Beevis before this is a great book to start with. This is my 8th book by the author, and she never disappoints. I know that I am in for a wonderfully written great psychological thriller when I pick up one of her books.
Well thought out, dark, tension filled and pulse pounding! Highly Recommend!
This was an intense read.
The main character takes you on an absolute whirlwind adventure after her husband and best friend die. Discovering the truth about her husband. His lies, his secrets. And her quest to move on (through online dating)
It's always hard knowing if what people tell you is the truth.
There are also chapters from an unknown source which are an interesting addition.
There are twists and turns. Extremely gripping.
An edge of the seat thriller/mystery story.
The burb sets the scene on this perfectly. It is a fast paced mystery dull of red herrings. You feel the emotion through the characters . The plot reads like a hollywood moviecand I was quickly invested and gripped by it. The characters were well written and the hint of mystery remained through. I really enjoyed this but was a bit disappointed by the final action scene as it seemed very convenient. Thank you for this highly recommended 5 star read perfect for all mystery lovers. Thanks netgallery and publisher and author.
Since Harper lost her husband in a car accident two years earlier, she has lived life largely as a recluse. With urging from her best friend, she joins an online dating platform and tries to start getting out more. One after another, the men she connects with are not what they seem. Her paranoia doesn't help with being discerning. Are there any good guys out there, or do all of them have a sinister agenda?
The premise of the book is good, but I would have enjoyed it more if every single one of the men didn't seem to have some nefarious agenda. The ratio of bad guys to good was a bit over-the-top, and hopefully not indicative of real life!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
I really thought I knew where this was going. I spent the first half of the book being slightly disappointed that it was so obvious. You'd think I'd know better by now. How stupid was I!!
This was so good, I've knocked off half a star (giving it 4.5 rounded up to 5) because I didn't find the first 40% gripping, however, once I got past that the second half of the book was brilliant and I absolutely raced through it. Suspecting everyone right up until the nutjob was revealed. So many twists and turns. This book has convinced me to never try a dating site and that all men are twisted and evil.
Not me, at first thinking that this was going to be a slow burning thriller?! 🤦🏼♀️ this was incredible, normally I work out the perpetuator, I was completely shooketh at that revelation!!
I loved the different POVs and the history of the killer and how it related to Harper.
This is a dark, gory thriller with the perfect amount of detail, this is my second book by the author, I will be adding all her previous books to my TBR..
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
Keri Beevis is becoming one of favorite authors.
This book was so well written. There wasn't anything that felt out of place. It has lots of suspense and thrill. I plan to read every book by Keri!!!
Keri Beevis has written some of my favourite psychological thrillers, so I was more than pleased to get the chance to read this ARC.
THE COTTAGE BY THE SEA is a compelling story that centres around Harper. Harper is still internally grieving after her husband’s sudden death two years previously. However, she realises she is becoming reclusive and decides to take the first steps towards moving on.
She decides to use a dating app as that will both get her out and maybe meet a potential partner at the same time. As is the case with dating apps, she meets some men who are just ok, some proper losers, and then she meets someone who could turn out to be dangerous. To add to her problems, she gets the feeling she is being watched and stalked, then she starts to find out some things about her dead husband which don’t add up. It is here where the story starts to get quite creepy. I was reading this in bed at night and had to go downstairs to check the doors and windows were locked!!
Some of Harper’s actions during this time could be construed as odd if not downright ridiculous, but Keri Beevis manages to make you empathise with her regardless. There is also a very cute rescue dog, Bailey in the mix as well.
You are never sure where this dark tale is going to end. I did have an idea who the perpetrator may be, but I never guessed the extent of his crimes.
Keri Beevis usually starts her story slow, and then the pace quickens. This novel was no exception and I did find the story a little slow in the first half of the book, but it soon ramps up
The Cottage By The Sea is a novel that expertly combines mystery and psychological drama with a dark twist. I have no hesitation in recommending this one.
My sincere thanks to NetGalley, Keri Beevis and Boldwood Books for the much appreciated ARC in exchange for an open and honest review.
Keri Beevis ladies and gentlemen!!!!
She did it again!!!
I just love this author, I just screamed during the final twist hahaha my daughter was like whaaaaat what happened? I wasn't expecting that twist omg!!!!
I started it and I was like oh my this will be good and didn't disappoint!!! It's cringe and creepy and you get to feel it all!!!! Not one chapter is unnecessary or boring, each one has you there with new information or something happening and I love that!!!
This is totally my kind of thriller. Full of action and creepy things happening, and all the twists coming at you and you not knowing where they came from!!!!
I'll never stop recommending this author!!!! She is amazing and every thriller lover should read her books.
Best book I read on September!!!
My fourth book by Keri, loved this one! Spent most of the book trying to work out who did what and whether it could be that person or not that person which I love!! Just the right amount of characters to keep you guessing and not too many to confuse the reader. Loved the story and the premise was very unique. Can’t wait to catch up on Keri’s other books.
I was completely hooked within seconds. Non-stop suspense, drama and insane twists from start to finish!! the reveal at the end was mind-blowing.
Thank you to the publisher for the opportunity to read this advanced copy. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Keri Beevis never disappoints with her twisty tales that keep you guessing. Harper, who was widowed after a car accident 2 years ago, decides to try online dating after her friend finds success. She meets several different men with varying experiences. Along the way she also learns that her husband was not who she thought and had a dark secret. A great book that must be devoured.
Two years ago, Harper’s husband Charlie was killed in a car accident with her best friend Alicia also in the car. She believes that they were having an affair. Since then, she has been living like a recluse for the last two years. But now it’s time to move on. Her friend Megan has persuaded her to go on dating app. But the first few dates are a disaster, until she meets Luke. But not on a dating app. She meets him when he had a fall whilst taking her dog Bailey for a walk.
Whilst getting rid of her husbands’ things, she founds out a lot of things about her husband that she didn’t know. Asking herself, did she really know him at all?
I have read a few of the authors books and I have really enjoyed them, and I really like how the premise of this story sounded. So, I couldn’t wait to get stuck in. But for the first half of this book, I found to be really slow, and I struggled to connect with the characters. There was no tension in the story for me personally and only got interesting in the last few chapters of the story, 3 stars from me.
Two years after becoming a widow, Harper Reed is starting to overcome the grief from the loss of her husband. She is persuaded by her best friend to join a dating app to begin dating again. Told in dual POV by Harper and her unknown stalker there is a slow build-up of tension where everyone is a suspect. Harper goes on dates with some of the men she has connected with on the dating app and not all of her experiences are positive. Harper’s feelings of being watched, items going missing, plant pots being smashed in the garden, all add to her sense of isolation.
The addition of the stalkers POV between chapters and his increasing loss of control helps to add a sinister and chilling edge to this domestic thriller. Suspenseful, dark and twisty this is an engaging read that will keep you riveted.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley UK for the ARC.
