This was a fun tale! I loved being able to return to Wonderland as an older Alice and seeing how things changed.
It has been five years since Alice's last adventures in Wonderland and Looking Glass Land, and she has yet to dream up a new adventure to share with her sister. Suddenly she receives an official visit from the White Rabbit. The Queen and King of Hearts have demanded her immediate presence in Wonderland for a special mission. They want Alice to retrieve the T.A.R.T.S (Totally Automatic Random Targeting System) that was stolen by the Knave of Hearts before he can put his sinister plans to instill chaos into motion. Alice is tasked with infiltrating Looking Glass Land, as the Queen and King of Hearts spy to track the Knave of Hearts, locate the device and return them all to Wonderland.
As a huge fan of Alice in Wonderland I try to read any new books that come along centered in the same world. It's always a treat to revisit the characters and see how the author will put a new spin on the classic stories. From Wonderland with Love continues where Lewis Carroll left off in his previous books, but Alice is now older and much wiser. Each character from Rabbit to the Cheshire Cat and the Caterpillar had the same personality as you would find in the classic story and it was especially fun reading Alice's interactions with Humpty Dumpty, who has been put in charge of C.H.E.S.S (the Consummate Headquarters for Espionage, Spying and Such). Yep, the acronyms abound.
I really appreciated Westhoff's take on the story, particularly envisioning Alice as a spy. Such fun. Learning about the various gadgets she used on her mission, such as the bag of holding, informant's brooch, and the mirror portals that enabled her to travel between Wonderland and Looking Glass Land. The narrative had thrilling moments, where Alice is aboard a train. And it was so entertaining, I was quickly flipping pages. Overall, the story was well written, had similar vibes to the classic and has me eagerly awaiting the sequel, Tinker, Tailor, Hatter, Spy!
From Wonderland, With Love is full of ever-so-clever, adventurous, thrilling, silly, humorous fun. I loved the literary and pop culture references. Beyond the obvious mashup of Alice in Wonderland (Lewis Carroll) and James Bond (Ian Fleming) themes, there are nods to punk rocker Billy Idol, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Monty Python, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and more. Because of this, the book might appeal to Gen Xers just—or nearly—as much as it does to middle-graders and teens.
Westhoff's Alice is (continues to be) especially curious, clever, and intelligent. The White Bishop always gets common sayings mixed up, to great comedic effect. There are heroes and villains . . . and characters between.
I am already anxious to read the sequel!
A cute, imaginative spin-off of Alice in Wonderland. I was a bit older than the target audience, but still enjoyed this quick read. Perfect for middle-schoolers.

A book written from a much older Alice's POV. It is, in short, a very fun, fanciful book that draws on the previous experiences of Alice's adventures in Wonderland - which can cause confusion. However, over all this a quick fun read that is especially perfect for younger adult and late High School age students. The humor is good, world building is fun, and the characters make the reader smile. This is perfect, quick, weekend read.
And the cover art is wonderful!!
As a life long fan of all things Alice in Wonderland this book felt like a warm hug. To be able to experience another adventure in Wonderland with characters I love so much is such a beautiful experience. All the characters are well crafted and true to their original personalities. I can’t recommend this book enough, I’ll be looking forward to Tinker, Tailor, Hatter, Spy!
This books was delightful. The characters were just like from the original stories but also quite different. Can Alice really work as a sort of secret agent? The Knave is villainous. The Queens are the same as Carroll wrote them. So fun and entertaining. I hope the author plans to turn this into a series. I would read more and highly recommend it.
I loved this book. Very fun and well-written. It’s Alice in Wonderland combined with James Bond, which is a very weird but great mix! I thought most of the language went well with Lewis Carroll’s Wonderland, with all the ridiculously mixed up sayings and even the oddly not-odd code names. When the end stated that there will be another, I was so happy to hear that!
Marked as YA but definitely intended for younger readers instead. Had I known it was a children's book, I wouldn't have gotten it. Cute, but simple and nutty.
Alice is back in a brand new adventure! Only this time she is older and wiser. Alice has been recruited by the White Rabbit to be a spy for C.A.R.D.S. an organization spear-headed by the King and Queen of Hearts. Alice needs to locate the Knave of Hearts in Looking-Glass Land for this recovery mission in order to help her steal back the T.A.R.T.S., a very secret and powerful weapon.
Along the way she will meet a trove of fairytale characters who will help and hinder her mission. Can Alice succeed in her mission and steal T.A.R.T.S. back? Find out in this exciting adventure!
We really enjoyed the way Westhoff made this new book an epic quest for Alice. It is Alice’s comeback to redeem herself, which is a great message for young readers. The characters in this book were likable and well thought out. My middle schooler and I didn’t expect Humpty Dumpty to make an appearance in Alice’s world, however it added originality to the story.

If you liked Alice in Wonderland, you will LOVE this!
From Wonderland, With Love is written as a sequel to the original Alice books by Lewis Carroll. Now, Alice is older and wiser, and a spy?? Sign me up. Her journey back to Wonderland begins with a summons from the White Rabbit because the Knave of Hearts is stealing T.A.R.T.S. This reimagining of the story I know and love was a quick and enjoyable read. The characters were engaging and the plot was exciting. Well done, Jeffrey Westhoff. He clearly put a lot of time and love into this story.
For fans of Alice and the world of Wonderland, this is the book for you! Five years after the Looking Glass escapade, and just as Alice is starting to thing that everything that happened to her was just a fantastic dream, the White Rabbit returns with and urgent request from the pair of royal Hearts. This time, Alice as a twelve year old will have to use all of her wits in helping the kingdom.
I was immediately drawn into the story. Jeffrey Westhoff did a wonderful job of recreating the characters of the original Alice in Wonderland and adding his own seamlessly. The adventure was pure fun.
I would recommend this book for advanced elementary grades on up. This is a squeaky clean book for all ages.
I'm not sure exactly what i was expecting, but it wasn't this. Felt like it was missing something, but i can't put my finger on it,
