This is a stunning poetry book and is such a trove of amazing poetry. The idea of the book, as explained by Julia Donaldson in the introduction, is to give children a 'pick and mix' of poetry, where they can read poems on lots of different topics - each double page spread has a different theme. The poems chosen are wide-ranging and on so many different subjects and from a really diverse range of poets. There's something for every child and every time of year.

The illustrations by Becky Thorns are beautiful with so many styles and designs that there's as much to look at in them as there is to read in the poems. She has really carefully thought about how her illustrations add to the theme of the poems and the overall appeal of the book.

This would make a great gift for a child of any age or to add to any classroom - it's a gem of a poetry book from a much loved author!

Based on the selection in the arc a bright colourful book in it's artwork and design, a selection of poems on various themes. I am sure children, whatever their interests, will find sections and enjoyment in this.

I recently had the pleasure of reading Pick and Mix Poetry: Children’s Verse curated by Julia Donaldson, and it was an absolute joy! This collection is a treasure trove of delightful poems that cater to children of all ages. Julia Donaldson has done a fantastic job selecting verses that are not only fun and engaging but also thought-provoking and educational.

The variety in the poems is impressive, ranging from silly and humorous to more reflective and poignant pieces. Each poem is beautifully illustrated, adding an extra layer of charm and making the book visually appealing. My children were captivated by the vibrant pictures and the rhythmic, playful language of the poems.

What I loved most about this book is how it encourages a love for poetry in young readers. It’s perfect for bedtime reading or for sparking a child’s imagination during the day. Pick and Mix Poetry is a must-have for any child’s bookshelf, and I highly recommend it to parents and educators alike.

I would have loved this book as a child as it’s a beautiful collection of poems some funny some touching and the kind of beauty that we need more of in life. I especially loved the Christmas poems as they summed up how I felt every Christmas.

This is everything you could want or need in a poetry anthology book. Children will have great fun with this ‘pick and mix’ collection of beautifully selected poems that have been collated into themes from Halloween to dinosaurs to pets to seasons, this book really does have it all. The illustrations that go alongside the poems are bright and beautiful too.
I will be using this for my poetry corner of my classroom to let the children pick a new poem for us to read and enjoy each week.

This is a lovely set of poems curated by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Becky Thorns. This DRcC is a selection of the the poems chosen by Julia and the ones shown are lovely and nostalgic. I will enjoy reading them with my children (age 9 & 11) a few of them are new to me and some I remember from my own childhood.

The illustrations are beautiful and really help give a good understanding of the poems meanings.

I like that the poems have been put into sections of other similar poems and are not all over the palace. Looking at the contents this is a well put together book of poems. This is lovely to sit down and read with your child and is also a lovely gut that could be given for a baby shower, naming ceremony / baptism or even a birthday.

A beautiful collection of new and traditional poetry for children with some lovely illustrations. I really enjoyed that the poetry included subjects like libraries and life in a tower block as well as nature, offering something for children in all settings. The poets range from Julia herself and other modern poets to the likes of Christina Rosetti and Robert Louis Stevenson, and it's lovely to see the inclusion of traditional rhymes and skipping songs.

This would be a wonderful book for parents and grandparents to read aloud to children as the poems are full of imagination and humour to share, but it's also perfect for the classroom, a great way to encourage children to play with language themselves and perhaps try to write their own poems.

A lovely addition to any child's bookshelf.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in return for an honest review.

My favourite was the 'library rap' and once published, I will be purchasing a copy to display this poem in our library.
