Their Frozen Bones is the 23rd book in the Kane and Alton series of crime thrillers set in the USA.
Wolfe is a dedicated father and Jenna and Dave treat his family as an extension of their own. Emotions are high but still kept in check as they begin their search for Julie after her plane crashes. Added to this is the discovery of women frozen in the snow with no obvious injuries but they were deliberately left to freeze to death.
The snow plays a major factor in this book, combined with the treacherous geography of the area which makes the search for Julie and a killer difficult and dangerous. Julie has been rescued but she is wary of trusting a man who has hidden himself away from society. This makes us suspicious of him too and wonder if there is a connection with the women's deaths. The murder side of the book felt secondary to the emotional turmoil focussed on Julie's disappearance. There is some tension as we see the next victim being held by the killer. The threat is palpable but there is little violence.
Another element of the plot is that Jenna is pregnant which adds a different dynamic as Dave wants to protect her espcially in the wintry conditions (sorry but I found the whole Kane as protector thing is a bit annoying). The dynamics of the police team may also be about to change with the impending maternity leave and this leaves some characters considering their personal and professional futures.
Their Frozen Bones is an enjoyable addition to this strong series.

23rd book in the Kane and Alton series. I couldnt put this one down. It was so addictive. Great plot and characters. This author just keeps on getting better and better.

Jenna, Kane, Wolf and other colleagues are trying to find a plane that crashed, which has Wolf's daughter on board. As they are searching they come across the bodies of girls who have been tied to trees. So now, they're looking for a crash site plus a murderer. It's hard going because of all the snow that has fallen and an avalanche that hits which of course causes more problems. A very interesting story with great characters that I recommend.

What a suspenseful and chilling read! Dave and Jenna race against time when a plane crashes during a blizzard with Wolfe's daughter on board. Near the crash sight they find bodies of women tied to trees but no sign of Julie. Fearing the worst, they now have to find a serial killer and Julie before it's too late.

Plane crash, no. Snow, no. Character I liked, no. Snow that strands people, no. Killer in the snow, no. Their Frozen Bones defies all of these and throws all niceties out the window. This book put me in my place and made me feel uncomfortable from the start.

As the team hunt for the plane crash affecting Wolfe’s daughter number 2 Julie, they come across women frozen in the extreme Black Rock Falls winter. But they aren’t accidental deaths. They are bone-chilling murders!!! *shudder*

I loved the switch from the Black Rock team to Julie to the killer and the victims. Getting into the heads of the different characters boggled my mind. Was Julie with the killer? If she was, what was the killer planning for her? The victims I wanted to rescue with a tardis! I just felt tense throughout without even thinking about the personal issues my main core of compadres were going through!!

This is another chilling (in both respects of the word) thriller from Hood. The weather has changed in the UK and autumn has hit. Reading this chilling thriller with a blizzard backdrop added to the actual temperature drop! I need something to warm my cockles after this!! I don’t know how Hood does it but she surpasses herself with each book!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I love coming to Black Rock Falls. This time one of their own is missing and there's another serial killer on the loose. Is the mysterious new stranger guilty of leaving frozen bodies all over the forest or is he just someone looking for an escape like he claims? Jenna and Dave are in a race against the clock to find the serial killer before their loved one becomes his next victim. It's another must read that I couldn't put down. I love reading more from this team.

Holy cow that was good! I normally have the villain figured out, but this one got me. I was so wrong; the villain was unexpected (which made it even better). Kane, Jenna, and the rest are an amazing team, and I love how they work together. I am curious if just met a new series regular. I cannot wait for the next one!

This is my first Kane and Alton book and I jumped in with both feet. Sometimes it’s overwhelming jumping in in the middle of a series, and I definitely am itching for more of their backstory, but I didn’t have any issues picking up this book.

They live in a remote area that is known for its draw of serial killers. Jenna and Kane seem to do a good job balancing their home life and work life, even with all the murders. This one brings us three women tied to trees and left to freeze to death. Their team has to, not only solve the murders, they need to find their medical examiner’s missing daughter.

I love the two of them together and I need to read more. I will definitely be getting my hands on more of this series and picking up more of D.K.’s others, which all seem to interconnect.

I know I say this a lot about these long running police procedural series I read, but I really do love this series. The getting to know the characters and watching them grow ups the ante when the case becomes personal. When Wolfe’s daughter is on a plane that went down in the snowy mountains, the team jumped in to track the downed plane and save his daughter. Along the way, they find the calling card of a serial killer and they then have to split their focus on this new case while still hunting for Wolfe’s daughter. Of course there would be a serial killer in Black Rock Falls. I would really have to move if I lived there.

Another layer of personal in this case is Jenna is pregnant (finally) and they’re searching for their friend’s missing daughter. I like this full circle that is subtle but also in your face. The complex layered plot with multiple storylines doesn’t feel crowded and by the end, I was satisfied with how it ended.

After 23 books, I am always amazed when the series doesn’t feel old or tired. I’m not sure how the author keeps coming up with these great ideas for plotlines but I am impressed. While Alton and Kane are always at the center of the book, I love how each book also showcases another character and I get the chance to know a little more about them.

The book is fast paced and suspenseful and once I picked it up, I could not put it down. I was guessing right up until the end.

Their Frozen Bones is one of the most suspenseful books in the Kane and Alton series by D.K. Hood. This book will grab you from the start and continue to increase the tension as you read. Sheriff Jenna Alton and her husband, David Kane get reports of a plane crash. It's getting close to Christmas and Black Rock Falls is having a blizzard. A member of their team has a daughter on her way to visit for the holidays. Unfortunately, they get word that Julie was on the plane that crashed. Getting to the crash site won't be easy with the conditions worsening every hour. They get a team together, pack up, get in warm gear, and head out. They will have take snow mobiles with them in case the truck can't get through.

They reach the crash site after much difficulty and are heartbroken to find the dead bodies still strapped into their seats. There's no Julie though and her pink luggage is missing. It looks like someone rescued her, but who? Was it a Good Samaritan or the person who killed the 3 women they found frozen to death tied to trees? Time is critical as Julie could be badly hurt or be in the hands of a crazed killer. All 3 girls that were killed had long blonde hair just like Julie. Will they find Julie before it's too late? Will they find the person who killed the 3 women? Is the person who took Julie the killer? How are they going to proceed when the snow is piling up rapidly and the roads and trails are getting impassable?

This book will horrify you in parts, keep you guessing the entire way, and make you worry about the future of Kane and Alton. This is a must read for anyone that enjoys a great mystery. Yes, it's book 23 in a series, but you can pick it up and enjoy it as a standalone too. I love this series so much and the minute I finish the latest book I'm eager for the next. I don't know how D.K. Hood does it, but she keeps making the series better and better. I rate Their Frozen Bones 5 stars with my highest recommendation. Slow to start off, the pace picks up as the book gets going. You do feel the suspense growing as Julie, injured in a plane crash, is worried that she has been taken in by a murderer. Meanwhile the team are hampered in the search for her by avalanches in the woods on Bear mountain and by finding murdered girls frozen to death and tied to trees . Raven, the man looking after Julie is mysterious, Jenna is pregnant and all the team are involved in searching the area. Descriptions of the weather conditions and area are good, had to rake my memory for who was who in the law enforcement team . The plot is good with a couple of twists .

I just love this series, it is not something to be taken seriously. Throughout the series we really get to know the characters and know their family life is growing. I just love how the author doesn't take it seriously and chuckled out loud with the references to the serial killer town. The mayor has a lot of money to give to the team - I suppose it is all the serial killer tourism.
I am interested to see how the new character will work with the team and Kane especially.
This was an afternoon read for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
