This was a new to me author and one I'll definitely be reading more from in the future, including the next book in the series.
Although I jumped into this series super late, and a couple of back stories piqued my interest, I wasn't lost for a second.
In fact with multiple plot threads that I couldn't get enough of I was transfixed from cover to cover.
I would definitely recommend this book no matter who picks it up.
This book has so much going on and I loved it! Yes, we have a missing girl but that didn't seem to be the main focal point, even the deaths of the others didn't take the main focal point. For me, we focus on a potential new character to the fold, and to say it looks like it's a green light, I did cheer! I worried I would be lulled into a false sense of security, that maybe, just maybe, this new character wouldn't be a good one. But phew. It's ok. I was ok, and I was happy!
When we weren't focusing on the newbie, it was Jenna, Dave, and even Emily and Rio. This book felt different, it felt more of a filler to start something rather than a normal intense thriller. Not that it's a bad thing at all, as it gave time for other characters to shine, to be at the forefront, but there was a different feel. A huge lull before the storm, before the birth of Jenna and Dave's baby, and before Wolfe settles down. Before so many new things!
I do love this series, I have been here since the beginning and everyone has come so far. But Ms Hood, her writing has got so much stronger, she has developed this small town into a serial killer central, but she has created her own team of Super-Heroes who fight the bad guys, save the day and get a HEA most of the time. I love it!
As Ms Hood does with her characters and scene setting, drawing you into this false sense of security, it does make me worried for what might happen in the next book, I really am worried there is a HUGE storm a-coming especially after reading the blurb!
This one was brutal. There is an especially twisted and vile killer on the loose in the mountains surrounding Black Rock Falls.
When a plane crashes in the mountains with Wolfe's daughter, Julie, on board as one of the passengers, it is all hands on deck. Time is of the essence due to the frigid temperatures. They do not even know if anyone survived, but they will not stop until they can find the crash site. Kane and Alton and their team go searching for the crash site and find a serial killer's gruesome playground.
This case was especially difficult because they are having to battle inclement weather with blizzards and avalanches, all while avoiding bullets from those who do not want visitors at their home.
The suspense was as taut and intricate as a spider web as you wonder who this crazed killer could be. Four words that come to mind to describe this book would be atmospheric, chilling and utterly gripping, which in turn means you can not put it down once you start it. The formidable team of characters are the perfect combo for fighting serial killers. They are better than the A-team of any other group of law enforcement groups.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is a nail biter! The case hits close to home for the team. It's intense and full of suspense. It kept me guessing. There's also a new character I'm very interested in seeing more of. There also are developments in our characters personal lives that fans will be invested in. You can never go wrong with a story by D.K. Hood!
Their Frozen Bones is book 23 in the Detectives Kane and Alton series by D.K. Hood.
I always enjoy the Kane & Alton series and this was no exception.
Hood’s writing is sharp and evocative, painting a vivid picture of the setting. The characters are well-crafted, with twists that are both surprising and satisfying.
A compelling addition, and readers will be drawn into the dark and thrilling world of Black Rock Falls.
Thank You NetGalley and Bookouture for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
that surround Black Rock Falls, their hearts shatter. Their friend Wolfe’s blonde-haired teenage daughter, Julie, was on that flight. They won’t sleep until they bring Julie home to her distraught family but a blizzard closing in, Jenna pushes on with the search until, just beyond the snow-capped trees, she finds the plane. She falls to her knees at the sight of the lifeless bodies, still buckled into their seats. But one passenger is Julie has vanished. Jenna finds heavy footsteps around the crash site which are too big to be Julie’s. Someone was here before them. Following the prints, Jenna’s pulse races as she finds the bodies of three young women hanging from the tall pine trees, their limbs frozen, their faces lifted to the sky above.
The twenty third outing for Jenna & Dave & another very well written thriller. I love both Jenna & Dave & have loved how their relationship has changed & deepened over the series. Each book can be read on its own but with a series this good I’d recommend starting at the beginning. There’s lots of suspense & lots of edge of the seat moments. I’ve learned to start reading this series early in the day as once started I’m not going anywhere until I’ve finished. Strong characters, a fast paced story added to my enjoyment
I voluntarily read and reviewed a special copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own
One of my favorite series! Must read for me with each installment in the Detective Kane and Alton series.
Black Rock Falls is really starting to seem like serial killer central.
Their Frozen Bones has so much going on! A plane crash with a co-worker on board, women left to die in a very mysterious way and blizzard conditions to contend with.
A very fast paced thriller with so much mystery and suspense.
I love the characters in this series. They just seem like people I’d like to meet and get to know.
I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I'm loving this series so much. Not only do we get new murders to be solved but we also get to know more about the characters, especially Kane and Alton. A large part of this story revolves around Dr. Shane Wolfe's missing daughter, Julie. She was on her way to Black Rock Falls when the plane she was on crashed. With a blizzard closing in. Thankfully she is rescued. The only question is whether he's a good guy or possibly a serial killer.
At the same time, frozen bodies taped to trees are found and the race is on to find the serial killer. But the team's efforts are hampered not only by the blizzard but also by multiple avalanches in the area.
This story will have you on the edge of your seat from the start and it doesn't let up until the ending. There are changes in the wind for Jenna and her team, and it will be interesting to see how that progresses in the future books as well as the potential "new guy".
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Their Frozen Bones (Detectives Kane and Alton # 23) by D.K. Hood
Publisher: Bookouture
Genre: General Fiction (Adult), Mystery & Thrillers
Expected Publication Date: October 1, 2024
Their Frozen Bones is the 23rd book in the Detectives Kane and Alton series by D.K. Hood. This book can easily be enjoyed as part of the series or as a standalone mystery. I've only read the last few so far, even though I plan to finish reading the previous books soon.
This book was fast paced and had me on the edge of my seat. I did not want to stop reading this book! I love the characters, and I found the story to be absolutely captivating! This book was intense and I loved every minute of it!!!
I highly recommend this book! I can’t wait for the next book to come out. I have become so attached to these characters that I need to know what will happen to them!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is another brilliant crime thriller from DK Hood.
It’s always good to catch up with Jenna and Dave and this book gets off to a dramatic start.
Wolfe is at the airport waiting to pick his daughter Julie up when he gets the news that the plane has gone down over the mountains.
Dave gets the search party ready but with a blizzard descending upon them, they can’t get there straightaway.
There’s a man out near the crash site checking his traps and he finds Julie unconscious with a badly injured leg. He takes her back to his cabin to help her, but when she wakes up, she’s suspicious of him.
The other part to this story is the women that have been found dead tied to a tree that Jenna and the team discover on their way to the crash site.
There’s a race against time to find the killer especially as they’re all worried that he might have Julie.
This is a gripping crime thriller that I really enjoyed.
Thanks to Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.
A blizzard, remote buildings in the forest, a plane crash. Not only this, but when you find all this and more in Black Rock Falls, you know it's not going to be nice or easy. If these were not enough, there was someone on the plane that Jenna's team desperately wants to save. Because we are in Black Rock Falls, there will also be a serial killer involved. I want to say this serial killer is brutal, but to be honest, is there one who isn't? This serial killer however has an edge that is absolutely horrible.
Safe to say, the woods are not safe and Jenna and her team are racing against time and they have several things and people to be worried about. What is going on?
Another great book in the fantastic Kane and Alton series. It is a must-read series if you love binge reading and addictive detective stories. Black Rock Falls is a place I love to visit in my reads, but never in real life. This is good stuff!
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this awesome book
you can never go wrong with a D.K.Hood book and this one is no exception....
snow. avalanches kidnapped women and a plane crash whats not to like about this book
when the plane crashed in the mountains it was all hands on deck because one of the passengers was one of their own...
dave and jenna with the help of everyone that could search the mountains was called in.... time was of the essence to find as many survivors as they could but as they make their way to the site of the plane crash they stumble on the body of a naked woman tied to a tree. as she was already dead the living took priority and marking the site for later they carried on.... but it wasnt long before they found another body....
could there be another serial killer in town.....
with time running out and the threat of more snow getting to the crash site was imperative
oh man this book.... what a read..... could not put it down.... always love a good book about snow and mountains and this one had all the adventure i needed ...
cant wait for the next book from this author
My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Their Frozen Bones’, book 23 in the Detective Kane and Alton series written by D K Hood, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
A blizzard has brought down the plane carrying Shane Wolfe’s daughter Julie with avalanches blocking all routes around Black Rock Falls. The plane is found but Julie is missing and as the team from Sheriff Jenna Alton’s department go out searching for her they come across the bodies of three dead women who’ve been tied to trees, had their hair chopped off and a smiley face drawn on their foreheads, then left to die in the freezing temperature. They need to find Julie before the killer does.
‘Her Frozen Bones’ is the next thrilling episode of life in Black Rock Falls as the weather delays the search for Julie Wolfe and it takes longer to identify the three dead women. The action-packed plot has been perfectly created with lots of suspense, drama and twists and turns that have had me rapidly turning pages. I’ve been totally hooked from page one with the tension increasing the further I’ve got into the story until it’s been impossible to stop reading. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed meeting up with old friends from the Sheriff’s department and as there appears to be a lot of changes about to happen I’m very much looking forward to reading book 24.
Book 23. Black Rock Falls. Serial Killer Central. Aunt Bettys. Jenna and Kane and the usual cast. It shouldn't work, it should be same old same old, but it absolutely isn't and it's absolutely brilliant.
I don't know how the author makes each book so fresh and gripping, but she does and this is no exception.
The writing is so good you can feel the intense cold and the feelings of despair when one of their own is missing.
Excellent main plot and nice developments in the subplot which leaves us with a possible new addition to the team to become acquainted with.
I enjoyed every page of this and you will too. Buckle up for another fabulous roller coaster of a ride.
A small plane crash in a blizzard affects this team of police, one of their own is missing. At the same time bodies are found in a bizarre fashion. A serial killer is on the loose. Are these two events connected?
This race for answers was one exciting journey for Kane and Alton and the team.
This fast paced crime was so riveting, I couldn't put it down. It kept me guessing to the end as to who was good and who was evil on the mountain.
Wow what a thrill ride this was!! A shocking airplane crash carrying one of the beloved cast of characters!! The frantic race to find the survivors of the crash!! A few dead bodies along the way to make things more interesting...DK continues to astound as she weaves these tales of action and adventure along with shocking mystery. A mysterious new character who may or may not be on the side of good becomes a potential new recurring character!! Truly an Un-Put-Down-Able masterpiece from DK Hood!!
I don’t know how DK Hood does it. Magic flows out of her fingertips and turns into this fabulous series that can never ever end!
As usual the lates Kane and Alton book is full of action and lots of snow. Wolf’s daughter is missing after a plane wreck and a madman is leaving pretty women out in the elements.
It was an enthralling read and how the team is dealing with Jenna’s condition,
Hood introduces a hot new prospect for the team but she did make my heart drop for awhile until a difficulty was resolved. Kane is still the man of my heart but this new guy is a viable alternative. I can’t wait to see what’s in store along that line!
Detectives Kane & Alton #23
When Sherrif Jenna Alton and her Deputy Dave Kane hear reports of a plane crashing into the mountains that surround Black Rock Falls, their hearts shatter. Their friend's blonde-haired teenage daughter Julie was on that flight. They won't sleep until they bring Julie home to her distraught family. A blizzard is closing in, Jenna pushes on with the search until, just beyond the snow-capped trees, she finds the plane. She falls to her knees at the sight of the lifeless bodies, still buckled to their seats. But Julie has vanished....
While looking for Julie and the plane she was in, Jenna and her team discover some dead bodies along the way. The snow is deep, there's a blizzard and avalanches happening around them, and the roads were cut off.
I was on the edge of my seat reading this book. Would Jenna, Dave, and the rest of the team find Julie alive? I love how the characters have progressed in each new book. All the characters had their parts to play. We get two cases running side by side. I was quickly pulled in and read this book in one sitting. D.K. Hood, please don't run out of ideas for this fabulous series.
Published 1st October 2024
I would like to thank #NetGAlley #Bookouture and the author #DKHood for my ARC of #TheirFrozenBones in exchange for an honest review.
This uses the crime thriller element perfectly and continues to be the way I’ve expected from other books in the Detectives Kane and Alton series. It had that element that kept me on the edge of my seat. D.K. Hood wrote this perfectly and was glad it was everything that I wanted. I hope there is more in this series and from D.K. Hood.
Book 23 in the brilliant Kane and Alton series.
A cracking thriller full of twists that kept me hooked from start to finish. I love this series and look forward to each one. And there's an interesting twist in this one. I'll say no more. You'll just have to read it and find out. Loved it.
Her eyes snap open and she takes in the snow-covered forest around her. She can’t remember how she got here, and a dark figure is running toward her. She doesn’t have time to scream before he’s upon her…
