This is such an amazing series, I can’t believe it’s book 23 and all the books are just brilliant. As usual gripped from the first page with a fast paced storyline. The relationship between Jenna & Dave is just so cute and the rest of the team are all like family now. I just absolutely love the style of writing, I can’t read the book quick enough but I also don’t want it to end. I can’t wait for book 24. This is a not to be missed series so if you have never read any by D.K. Hood then do so from the beginning of this amazing series, you won’t be disappointed.
This one grabbed me the way book 1 -4 did. Pulled me from the epilogue and kept me till the last page. I felt like I was in a dryer on tumble then spinning. Well crafted story lines with red herrings that had me second guessing. People you can invest in, care about, a page turner that provides a solid mystery with thrills. There is a new character that plays a pretty prominent part and brings a "say what" moment towards the end. Emotions running for the characters and the reader. Absolutely loved this one. Thank you for the opportunity to read #TheirFrozenBones early! I freely volunteer my honest thoughts and opinions. #DectectivesKaneandAlton #D.K.Hood #Bookouture #NetGalley

Can't believe I have read book 23 already. Can't wait for book 24. What a fantastic series. As usual with hood's books was hooked from beginning to end. The characters never get boring or old. Thank you for the opportunity to review
Exciting: terrifying forays into a frozen wilderness🏔

I really loved the fast pace and the double storyline dovetailing into one frigid challenge for Alton, Kane and their team. The switch from the serial killer case to the search for medical examiner Wolfe's teenage daughter Julie and back kept the suspense level high, and the blizzard, avalanche-inducing Montana backwoods setting is almost a separate character.
This is a great addition to the series, easy to read and I really liked that most of the police work was hard scrabble, physically taxing and not focused on the scientific tools often featured in police investigations these days. A little of the technical talk goes a long way. Jenna and Kane's changing family life adds a bit of human interest and warmth to the story.
I was a bit surprised by the end pages concerning the serial killer, which seemed a quick, unlikely scenario, but overall a quick, exciting read.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
I adore this author and this book gave me all the suspense and horror and thrill I’ve come to expect. It’s well written and fast paced. As always the characters are wonderful and so well done they are like family by now. This story had some seriously horrific moments as well as some lightheartedness. I am excited about the addition of a new character that I hope comes back.
My only peeve for this one was the major over repetition of how sensible Julie was so she was sure to be safe. It was over iterated in most of the first half of the book.
Another great book in the Kane and Alton series. I recommend reading them all. Kane and Alton have great chemistry. A great group secondary characters to that are engaging. Thrilling read.
Their Frozen Bones is a masterclass in pacing and suspense! Even though this is the 23rd book in the Detectives Kane and Alton series, D.K. Hood continues to deliver a gripping, edge-of-your-seat thriller that will leave readers breathless. From the moment Sheriff Jenna Alton and David Kane begin their desperate search for Julie, the tension only builds. The snowy, isolated setting adds an extra layer of intensity, and the chilling discoveries along the way make this one of the darkest and most jaw-dropping cases yet.
The mystery surrounding the missing girls with their altered appearances is both haunting and twisted, and Hood keeps you guessing right up until the final shocking twist. It’s incredible how, after so many books, Hood maintains such fresh and addictive storytelling, balancing action with character development in a way that pulls you in deeper with every chapter.
While Their Frozen Bones can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend starting from book 1 to fully appreciate the depth of these unforgettable characters. Fans of Lisa Regan, Melinda Leigh, and Kendra Elliot will be hooked from start to finish. An absolute must-read!
Thanks to Ms. Hood, the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review
Unstoppable and atmospheric!
This brilliant thriller is just as chilling as the setting and it keeps you turning the pages in a desperate attempt to reach its terrifying ending.
I’ve honestly never read any work by this author, D.K. Hood but now I’m hooked!
That cabin in the snowy mountains no longer looks like an appealing place to unwind, in fact, I’d avoid it and holiday somewhere busy after reading this terrifying tale.
It’s a hands down 5 stars from me.
Definitely another wild ride with the team of Black Rock Falls. I'm very intrigued for the next book!
This one was a change up from the other books I feel with the plot and everything.
I can't believe we've reached book #23 in this series, and it's still as captivating as ever! This has to be my favourite series based in the US, and in this latest installment, we return to Black Rock Falls. Sheriff Jenna Alton and her team are searching for one of their own, young Julie Wolfe, following a plane crash just outside the town during a snowstorm. On their way to the crash site, they encounter victims of what appears to be another serial killer, and when they attempt to rescue Julie, they discover someone has already reached her. Has the serial killer gotten to her first?
This book was a fantastic read! I've devoured every book in this series and have adored each one. The storyline starts with a deadly plane crash amidst a terrible snowstorm. Julie Wolfe, daughter of Medical Examiner Shane Wolfe, is travelling home on the plane. The author consistently captures the starkness of Black Rock Falls, even during the summer, but this time, it's on another level! The descriptions of snowfalls, blizzards, deep drifts, and avalanches are chilling, making one wonder how anyone—or anything, including a serial killer—could survive out there.
The pace of the book is exhilarating, with chapters alternating between various characters. The writing cleverly conveys the tension and suspense, leaving me breathless at every page turn. The characters are all wonderfully written and fit into the storyline so well. As the search for Julie unfolds, we also delve into the personal lives of the characters, particularly Dave and Jenna, who have quite a bit happening in their lives at the moment. The plot is robust, filled with red herrings and dead ends that keep readers guessing. The author has a talent for creating an atmosphere so vivid, I felt like I was actually there with them. This was an exciting, thrilling read that had me hooked until the very end. Would recommend!
This story is a thrill ride that Kane and Alton wish were over. As they hunt for Wolfe's daughter Julie who was in a plane crash, they come across dead women tied to trees. They have to focus on the living so the teams moves on to finding the crash site. Once they find it, they discover someone has already been there and Julie is missing. Did the serial killer take her or did one of the men living in the mountains and can they be trusted? Blizzards and avalanches keep the team from finding Julie so they focus on the women killed by the serial killer. The more they find, the more they worry about Julie's safety. It is an action packed story that has touching moments as well as chilling ones. The ending gives clues to where the author can go with the next book, which I can't wait to read.
In this 23rd book of the series sheriff Jenna Alton and her husband, partner David Kane investigate the disappearance of their friend’s daughter Julie from a plane crash. On their way to the site they find a serial killer’s dumping ground of women who look like Julie. They race against time to find her in the middle of a raging blizzard.
This was an exciting read that had me guessing till the end.
Thanks NetGalley and Bookouture for this eARC that will be released October 1, 2024!
Five stars all the way, this series is hard to put down because of the non stop action from the very start, the twist and turns will keep you on edge, and each killer is a bit more creepy then the last one , and no matter what the setting is you know that the atmosphere of it will also have a hand in making you feel uncomfortable .
Another 5 star for DK Hood! Deputy Dave Kane and Sheriff Jenna Alton did justice to Black Rock Falls once again! Love this series! Fast paced, suspense, and hard to stop reading.
Sheriff Kane and Detective Alton are heading out in a blizzard to a plane crash site that has one of their own on board.
As the blizzard continues, so does the tension in this tightly plotted book. On their way to the site they are horrified to find a frozen body tied to a tree. They instantly know they also have a sadistic killer to find. Author D. K. Hood continues to be a terrific writer of the mystery thriller genre. Another exciting book for all her avid and new readers. Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for an early copy. This review is my honest opinion.

If you are an active reader of mysteries, and small-town crime novels, do you ever feel like you are more hyper alert unnecessarily when out in the woods, or in certain situations?
For Julie Wolfe, as she finds herself in a cabin with a stranger after a plane crash, in serial killer territory, and having read many of FBI Agent Jo Wells books analyzing serial killers, trust in a stranger is something can’t let herself do as her mind runs wild, questioning every action and comment made. Is her rescuer one of the good guys or is he a serial killer??
A new serial killer is using the mountains, his crimes discovered when the Jenna and her team race to the scene of the crash when they hear that Wolfe’s daughter was on the flight that went down.
This book weaves the search for Julie and a serial killer together, while continuing to deliver further progression in the stories of all the main characters that we love. There is also a new character that we are likely to see more of in future books and I have my suspicions on a new love match that will emerge…..
D.K Hood, always manages to deliver a heartfelt story of close friends and family, along with an edge of your seat, gripping mystery that keeps you coming back for the next installment!
Book 23 in this brilliant series featuring Kane and Alton in Black Rock Falls is another amazing, suspense filled read. It was fast paced, full of thrills and enough suspense to keep the reader on the edge of their seat! The blizzard descriptions were such that you could almost feel the snow and the biting wind! I am loving the developing characterisation, of all the characters and it's good to see the young people growing up and venturing out into the world. Another easy 5* read from me. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
I'll let you read the editorial review and synopsis for details, I'm just going to tell you my opinion. This book is fabulous and if you're a Kane and Alton (and friends) fan you are going to love this book. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Wowza! D.K. Hood has crafted an addictive, gripping, atmospheric, pulse pounding and thrilling book which had me turning the pages while my pulse pounded! I was instantly drawn into the plot, on the edge of my seat, fingers crossed and feeling the chill in the air! I have not read this entire series but have loved the books in the series that I have read. One thing that D.K. Hood excels at is writing books in a series which work perfectly as stand-alone novels.
I love books that take place in cold snowy places. I also love books that have a 'trapped' feeling. Their Frozen Bones: An edge-of-your-seat crime thriller with a jaw-dropping twist, fits that criteria beautifully! Black Rock Falls is serial killer central and in Their Frozen Bones: An edge-of-your-seat crime thriller with a jaw-dropping twist one is luring and killing women, leaving behind their frozen bodies.
Sheriff Jenna Alton and her deputy, David Kane, have been alerted that a plane has crashed in the snow covered mountains around Black Rock Falls carrying the daughter of Wolfe, who is one of their own. As the desperate search is underway, the bodies of the murdered women are found! Making things more tense, when they find the plane that went down, Julie is missing!!!!!
Whew! This book was full of tension, suspense, danger, and dread. Questions swirled through my mind as the snow swirled through the air. I loved the atmosphere in this book. I could almost feel the cold in the air, while imagining the crunch of the frozen snow under their feet. This book kept me on my toes, turning the pages and loving every second of it.
This proved to be an extremely fast and thrilling read. I did my best super sleuthing while reading, trying to determine whodunit. I don't always get it right but in this book, I nailed it! I enjoyed the twists, revelations, suspense, mounting danger, and banter between the characters.
D.K. Hood has left me a very happy reader once again! I love her writing, her characters, and the engrossing plots she writes. I can't wait to read what she writes next!
Kane and Alton at their best. A desperate search during some pretty nasty and cold weather. A serial killer and a missing daughter, also a new character. Great stuff.
