*I received an advanced copy for review* This was an interesting and easy read. I read the entire series in preparation for this book and did enjoy the world building.
Personally I feel like there were too many different things all mixed together. It felt like the author was trying to include every magical being possible and weave their stories together in a way that didn't really make sense. I'd recommend for someone looking for a very diverse character list but this won't be added to my re-read pile.

I DNF'd this advanced audiobook. I didn't care for the characters or the storyline, and the narrator was not entertaining to listen to either.

A Shift in Fate (Lost Legacies, #2)
by Maddox Grey
The audio edition of this book allows the reader to have imitate connection with the book. The voice of the narrator is inviting and full of depth.
The book can stand alone, as i have not read the prior book. I found the idea and intrigue of the story absorbing. The internal and external conflict of the species has provided a very compelling conflict, as fae, deamons, shape shifters and vampires work for control of the various worlds.
The main character has a mystery in her story, that is slowly exposed over the novel. She is able to learn her own history, and how it connects to the conflicts of her world.
The supporting characters have their own mystery and intrigue that add to the elements of mystery, and suspense.

Here's a 5-star review for *A Shift in Fate* by Maddox Grey:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Maddox Grey has done it again with *A Shift in Fate*! As the second installment in the Lost Legacies series, this book dives even deeper into the complex and dangerous world of fae, daemons, and magic, and I was lucky enough to listen to the ALC. From the very beginning, the story grabbed me and didn’t let go, building on the thrilling momentum set in the first book.

The tension surrounding the protagonist, who wields forbidden devourer magic, was palpable, and the stakes felt incredibly high as she navigated dangerous alliances and ruthless enemies. The journey to the fae realms was action-packed, filled with twists, secrets, and revelations that kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved how Maddox Grey masterfully intertwined character development with fast-paced plot progression, especially the bond between the protagonist and her high-ranking daemon best friend.

The world-building remains top-notch, and the introduction of new threats—assassins with magic like the protagonist's—added an exciting layer of mystery and danger. The emotional depth, coupled with the morally complex choices, made this a truly gripping sequel.

*Lost Legacies* fans, prepare to be amazed! *A Shift in Fate* takes the story to a whole new level, blending revenge, magic, and sacrifice in ways that left me eagerly anticipating what comes next. Maddox Grey continues to deliver an enthralling series, and I can't recommend it enough!

“A Shift in Fate,” by Maddox Grey

This book has a lot of action and so many characters with a large kind of epic type feel to the story. With werewolves, vampires, fae, wild hunt, magic, and fighting even among friends, there’s a lot. It reminded me of DND. Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite my type of action and story, I just wasn’t feeling it too much. Not a bad read just not my kind of book. 3 out of 5 stars.

-Werewolves
-Vampires
-Fae
-Wild Hunt
-Magic

Even better than book 1. We learn more about Nemain's background. We follow Nemain's crew to rescue a boy and end up learning a lot about each character's background. Lots of witty banter, some romance, epic fighting, it's got it all. The audiobook kept a fantastic pace, easy to tell when perspectives changed characters.

TW: Some references to past trauma.

I didn't have expectations of this book going in, fantasy can be very hit or miss. This book almost lost me early on, I think that I was expecting it to be too much of a clone of some other series, but once I was a few chapters in I was hooked. There were still some parts I didn't understand, I think this is not the first book in this series, but overall it was a great modern fantasy read.

I enjoyed getting to know the characters, I liked how they interacted with one another, and the adventure they were on was intriguing to follow. I also really enjoyed that it showed hard decisions being made, and the ramifications that differing viewpoints can have on relationships.

I'd recommend this to anyone looking for something that feels like Harry Dresden meets Wheel of Time.

I loved this book. It was really awesome to be able to listen to it and hear the emotion from the narrator. This is a long series but I can’t wait to continue it!

And the story continues! Oh wow, I did not expect A Shift in Fate to be this good. It was so easy to fall back into this world and immerse myself in this story again. The plot was a little slow but I was blown away by the deep character development so many of the characters showed. Some amazing new characters were introduced and I loved getting to know them. Some of the magic and physics of the world got a bit confusing at some points but overall I like the unique magic system. The audiobook was clear and easy to listen to. I can't wait to continue this adventure in the next book.

Thank you to the publishers and netgalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

Fast-paced, fully fleshed universe, quirky characters with plenty of action and even romance!
This is the second book of a trilogy, and I unfortunately did not read book one. I was able to catch up quickly and even made to feel sad about missing out on reading the first of the series, but it definitely stands alone if you get it confused.
Thank you for the advanced copy of this story to the publishers, author, and Netgallery in exchange for my honest review.

I didn't enjoy this narrator in the first book, so I regret to say I didn't listen to it. I will read it as an e-book and hope I like the story better that way

I adore this story!! The TENSION is fantastic. The plot is plotting and the fmc is a fierce badass. This all together makes a great book!!

I love that the world building is detailed but still easy to follow so you can easily enjoy it. Especially in this book we do lots of traveling and seeing new places and people!

This is book two of a series that you most definitely need to read book one to understand what is happening. If you are starting with this book, stop and pick up book 1. I want to start by saying I enjoyed the narration and thought it was done very well
The story itself i would say should not necessarily be categorized as romance or romantasy. I felt the romance was a subplot and since they do not end up together it is not a HEA. The plot itself was very interesting. I enjoyed the FMC and found her character development to be fascinating. We as an audience we're getting to discover what kind of creature she actually was along with her and that was enjoyable. I will say I think there were too many creatures and characters to try to and keep up with but overall I enjoyed this book.

Thank you for providing me with an ARC copy of this book. I loved this as much as the first book in the series. The story flows on from book 1 but you still get little reminders of what happened which I liked as there’s lots of different information to remember about the magic system and the qualities of different supernatural beings. The story progressed really nicely and in the same way as book 1 you get lots of resolutions whilst still progressing in the storyline and discovering new mysteries. I still love the characters as much as I did in book 1 and love the development they get in this book and how each character has their own story which is slowly explored throughout. I would love to continue with this series to find out what happens to different characters and how the story will stretch even further. I flew through this just as much as I did the first one and would definitely recommend this series.

So let me start by saying that this is book #2 of a series. I did not realize that when I requested it (my fault!)…
Also, let me say that this was a bit out of my comfort zone, but looked interesting!
And, that it was! But I wish I had read book #1 as I feel like I’m missing a lot…

Nemain is a shape-shifter, warrior, fierce being, and quite a character! She has defended herself and her friends over and over, and continues to do so!

So, when a young boy wanders into an unknown area and then disappears, she is worried that harm will come to him. And the more she finds out about him, the more she realizes that she MUST help him!

And so the mission begins.

We watch as she and her clan…Fae, vampires, werewolves, dragons..etc,etc…go off to find and save the boy! Even if it means risking her life!
And the plot seems to thicken with each and every chapter…

Lots of action. Lots of characters. Lots of mouth hanging open moments as some shape shift into something else to fight…

Again, not my normal genre, but I did enjoy this one!
Hoping I can find book #1 and the ones to follow to see what I missed!

3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 for me, rounded up to 4!

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC

A Shift in Fate is the second book in the series. I was pleasantly surprised by the first book, A Shift in Shadows. I don't think this book lives up to the first one, which was more action-packed. In the sequel we get to know our protagonist better and explore more of her unexplained powers and heritage. I liked learning more about her, but missed more action and relationship developement. I do however recognise that this is building up to more exciting revelations and action in the next book. I'm sure to read the third book as well to see how the story unfurls futher.

I recently listened to *A Shift in Fate* by Maddox Grey without having read the first book in the *Lost Legacies* series. While I could follow the plot and enjoy the action, I did feel that some of the story's depth was lost without the context from the first installment. That said, Krys Janae’s narration was phenomenal. Her voice reminded me of Julia Whelan—rich, engaging, and perfectly tuned to the emotional tone of the story.

Krys Janae's ability to convey the complexities of the characters, especially Cora, brought the narrative to life in a way that kept me fully immersed, even without all the background. She has a talent for drawing listeners into the world and making every moment feel impactful.

Overall, *A Shift in Fate* was an exciting experience, and Krys Janae’s performance truly elevated it. I’d recommend starting with the first book for the full experience, but this audiobook still stands strong on its own, thanks in large part to the exceptional narration.
