In a world where priests wield holy tattoos and machine guns to battle demons, Sunny Nguyen stands out as a mystery—a seemingly ordinary human with an inexplicable ability to attract dark forces. Assigned by the Archangel Gabriel, exorcist Ezra, who grapples with his wavering faith, must protect Sunny. But that mission proved more difficult than expected.
As Ezra and his team confront increasingly violent and powerful demonic threats, the puzzle of why these entities are after Sunny deepens. Meanwhile, Ezra is drawn to the surly, enigmatic Sunny, and their connection grows amidst the chaos. With danger closing in, can Ezra's faltering faith hold strong? And more importantly—can he keep Sunny alive?
I finished the second volume wanting more and was thrilled to see it released. I enjoyed spending more time with Sunny and Ezra, though I noticed the nuns seemed to have vanished between volumes. Still, I'm excited to see where the story goes next. The dynamic between Sunny and the three future priests tasked with babysitting him was fantastic—it added a fun layer to the plot. Now, with a glimmer of hope for revenge and maybe even a chance to live past 20, Sunny’s journey is more intriguing than ever.
This series is getting better and better! I read Covenant vol. 2 in one sitting, it was so good and very addictive.
The story picks up right where volume 1 ends, in the middle of the action. I loved that the characters were developed further, we learned more about their backstories, a lot of the questions I had in volume 1 were answered in this volume. It’s a great continuation of the story and I can’t wait for the next volume!
Many thanks to Netgalley and Oni Press for providing me with this arc.
This series is absolutely fascinating! There are a lot of characters to keep track of, but it's good to start seeing some of their interactions and relationships build. Absolutely gorgeous art!
This quickly became one of the best stories I have ever read. I was lucky enough to also get an ARC of volume 1 and loved it. I waited for months to try and buy a physical copy. Definitely plan on continuing the series. This volume finally explores a bit more of the relationship between the two main characters, and gives more solid backstory. Overall, a solid addition and I can't wait for more volumes to come out.
An excellent continuation of the story, with everything—the tension, the mystery, the romance—slowly ramping up, keeping me invested. The art is still great. Having these volumes out in book form makes for much more enjoyable reading than the serialized version available online, so that’s definitely a benefit. I really appreciate how this series plays with Christian saints and mythology. Can’t wait to see where the story goes.
Thank you so much for letting me read this graphic novel. I am so happy I was able to also read this second volume. The story really picked up the pace and we got a few answers.
Volume 2 in the Covenant series leveled up the intensity and progressed the storyline nicely. In additional to the stunning artwork, Lysandra Vuong showed us more background into Sunny and some of the mystery surrounding him as well as finally revealing our big bad! I still think this graphic novel hits all the right notes for fans of Supernatural, but this time the queer relationships are out and proud.
Now that things are starting to come together and a big battle is on the horizon I'm definitely waiting with baited breath for Volume 3.
Another fun addition to this series! I’m very curious about where this will go, I feel like we’re getting little tidbits of info and soon we’ll get a big reveal
The art style in this is so cool! Which is what drew me to it in the first place. I’ll continue to pick these up as the come out!
First: Thanks to NetGalley, the Author and the Publisher for this ARC.
THIS!!!
😍😍😍😍😍
I like the characters, their interactions, the inclusion, the story, the mystery and the suspense.
It has you hooked from start to finish.
The action sequences were really well done, they were well drawn and clear on what was happening, even if it was a whole lot for one page.
After getting the ARC of the first volume, and loving it, I was really glad I also got the ARC for volume 2.
I'm really loving the art and the story. It leaves you curious and questioning.
I'm completely invested and can't wait for volume 3
Thank you to Oni Press and NetGalley for a free advanced listener’s copy. I received this copy in exchange for my honest review.
A fantastic and action packed conclusion to the first volume of the series. I love Vuong’s character design and the flow they use through their action sequences. While I find the traditional webcomic style of posing with a 3D model before drawing over it can have a tendency to look a bit stiff sometimes, Vuong uses it to their advantage to keep the action really engaging. I also feel like the story is getting really interesting; you can really feel the frustration of all the characters as the mystery of Sunny’s problems becomes murkier and the answer feels further away than ever.
I can’t wait for the next installment of the series!
Ezra is told by the Archangel Micheal to protect Sunny as demons are after him. In this installment tensions are ever higher as Sunny feels suffocated by his lack of freedom under the watch of Ezra and the other priests. When one of the priests senses that Sunny has a demonic aura sometimes, the priests other then Ezra look at him with hatred.
Sunny feels he can’t trust anyone and he is trapped by the danger he brings to others around him as demons will kill any in their path to get to him. Yet he feels like he misses his freedom and when he could protect himself all on his own.
This webtoon is beautifully illustrated and full of holy and demonic action. There’s epic fight scenes, tension, and hidden intentions that are very slowly revealed. I loved reading volume 2 and I can’t wait to read more. Ezra’s and Sunny’s story is one that sucks you in and doesn’t let go. It’s a thrill ride beginning to end.
This is a solid follow-up to the first book in the series. It does a great job expanding the conflict with the demons and dropping clues about the larger mystery. Overall, it’s well-executed, but I personally wanted more moments between Ezra and Sunny to build their relationship. That said, I don’t know how long the series will be, so it makes sense to take our time with their development.
Absolutely incredible, yet again!
This volume was even more exciting than the last one.
The characters are so unique and their designs are amazing.
I'll definitely be buying this once it's out.
Huge thanks to Oni Press and NetGalley for providing me with this arc
A young man is being chased by demons and he does not know why, or why his family was killed by them when he was younger. He catches the attention of some excerpts, who now want to protect him, but things are a lot more complicated than they thought. This book has some high emotions and some violent scenes.
The outfits continue to be as sexy as ever, the plot is moving forward in big ways, and Ezra and Sunny are FINALLY inching towards romance. A great sequel and I really enjoyed it!!! I’ll definitely be reading Volume 3!
I will never not love this series. I have already read the full two seasons available on the webtoon app but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying the volumes. I plan to keep all physical volumes in my possession.
The concept of this story is interesting and volume two starts to weave in more characters and complexities. Sometimes the story is confusing, sometimes the characters are annoying and sometimes the artwork is off. However the plot moves forward, it doesn’t stop. Confusing parts start to make sense, annoying characters become loved, and the imperfect artwork makes it comedic.
In volume two, we start with a continuation of the fight with Ezra, Sunny and a demon, followed by the disclosure of Sunny’s past and present. All of this is entangled with the Great Church and the unnamed demons chasing Sunny. This volume covers a lot, mostly information which is critical in the world building and establishing the characters. And that’s not all, we also get Sunny’s background as well as hints into the background of other characters.
I enjoy how this story is fast paced. It doesn’t dwell too long on drama and romance currently isn’t the highlight. There is communication between the characters, although not always clear but it gets the message across. That’s not to say, emotions are irrelevant. Through Sunny and Ezra we see regret, sadness, anger, loneliness, comfort and many more emotions alongside the depiction of panic attacks, trauma and violence.
The artwork is absolutely stunning and I love how it primarily uses a few colors (including black) to depict this story. It has my respect because it’s very difficult to portray a story and the emotions with a limited color palette. That said, similar to volume one, the action is a little underwhelming and there are imperfections in the artwork. Also, some of the panel layouts don’t help portray the intensity well. Though it doesn’t bother me and I love the story regardless.
As we near the end of volume two, the plot thickens and becomes more dramatic. Ezra will soon have to make a clear choice, one that he struggles with in this volume. It’ll be interesting to see how that affects his relationships and the story going forward.
Overall, I highly recommend this story. The romance isn’t prevalent but the characters are still learning to trust and lean on each other. There is a diverse cast of characters, each of which is strong and badass. The character designs are gorgeous and the details in their tattoos are pure perfection. I’m definitely looking forward to my physical copy of this book and the next volume!
I was thrilled to get my hands on the advance copy from Netgalley. All my opinions remain my own.
Covenant by LySandra Vuong is easily shaping up to being one of my favourite series' this year. I'm loving the fun twist on religion, with Priests that call on angels to help them fight demons on earth.
The art is stunning as always, with Vuong having such a great grasp on proportion and character design.
Speaking of characters, I'm loving Samson and their aggressive attitude that softens towards those they love. I would like to learn more about Samson because they're one of my favourites!
The plot was good, although I found it got soft in this one compared to the first. The start of the book was following on from a cliffhanger fight from the first book, and then the middle was just everyone trying to figure things out and complaining. But the flashes to the demon lord (not going to name to avoid spoilers) were the best thing in the book. It made them more mysterious and really pushed the plot forward and made the reader wonder what they meant by certain things (especially at the end of the book).
Overall, this is a wonderfully drawn and written series. I'll support the author when it's out in physical form to match my first book on my shelves!
Thank you Netgalley and Oni Press for the readers' copy.
I know hot, queer, fighter priests sounds niche but I love this for everyone ♥
The characters, art style, pacing, dialogue are perfect. Literally no notes.
Such a fun continuation from book 1 and again leaves you wanting more.
Bring on book 3 *makes grabby hands*

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an ARC of this story.
SPOILERS TO FOLLOW
MORE BACKSTORY!!!! This is what I felt like was missing from Vol 1. There was so much background knowledge in this volume that I wish I'd had sooner because it just made it that much more enjoyable. I still adore the characters regardless though and I was really happy I was granted access to volume 2 after I read volume 1 on here as well. I love the designs of the demons and the priests outfits to death and I'm excited to see what comes next. I'm really glad we got to see more of Father Aaron too because he is SO FINE.
5 stars
I'm obsessed with this art style.
The story is entertaining and so amazing.
Can't wait for volume 3!
