I loved this book. I loved the Freeman family and I loved reading about the Rowntrees factory. Gracie Hart has written a fantastic story that had it all - strong female characters, romance, a little bit of humour and a lot of heart! I can't wait to read the next in the series.
Outstanding; when does the next book come out?!
Living close to York I enjoyed reading about the places I knew and could picture myself there. I know the 'Rowntree's village' and have even been into one of the houses so that was special to read about Rose's visit. I'm guessing the wafer biscuit is now what we call a Kit-Kat and it's made me want to go out and buy a packet!
The main characters are all so likeable and easy to relate too. It brought tears to my eyes when Big Beatrice was promoted! The book has a strong storyline which keeps the reader engaged throughout.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers and of course Gracie Hart for writing such a brilliant book and for allowing me to review it. Roll on book two!
Love love love this new series, 1st book is about molly who gets a job at Rowntrees in York, following her two sisters who already work there
All 3 girls live with there widowed mum and me on becomes friends with carol, who has her own issues and is quite jealous of Mollys family life.

The Chocolate Box Girls by Gracie Hart
Really enjoyed this book , yes it's a fairly easy read , but just what you want for this time of the year .
When Molly leaves school she joins many living in the area ( including her sisters ) in going to work at the local chocolate factory.
On her first day she meets Connie and they quick become best friends and this makes it easier in getting used to be in a working environment .
A enjoyable family saga. A great first read in a series. Thankyyou netgalley for this opportunity to read this
A very enjoyable read. The characters are all great and believable. Molly goes to work in the chocolate factory when she leaves school. Her 2 older sisters already work in the factory and on her first day she meets Connie and they become the best of friends. We follow Molly through her first weeks and months of the new job. I thought this was a lovely read and would recommend it as a holiday read or for cosy nights in.
The first in a new series by Gracie Hart.It is set in York and the Rowntrees factory.Molly has just left school and is joining her 2 sisters who work at Rowntrees. Millie makes friends with Connie who starts on the same day as her. Connie doesn't come from the same loving background that Mollie does. We also follow Mollies sisters Rose the eldest and Annie the middle one. This is a great read and can't wait for the next book in the series. Thank you to Netgalley and Penguin Random House.
Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
I enjoyed reading this first book in a new series which follows the life of Mollie as she begins work at Rowntrees in York along with Connie, who soon becomes her best friend.
Mollie and Connie have been brought up differently and as we read about how Connie was, it felt really sad and what she had to do to change her life.
The story was very well researched and written. The way factories made chocolate and the processes that went into the final product was interesting to read.
I can’t wait to read what comes next for these characters.
I highly recommend this book.
Thank you for the chance to read this ARC in return for my honest opinion.
This was the first in a new series and followed Mollie as she started work at Rowntrees in York and her new friend, Connie, who she met at her interview.
They both came from very different backgrounds, Mollie was well loved and Connie anything but. Connie's story and her actions were heartrending.
This was obviously well researched and well written. Chocolate making and how the factory worked were new to me but were explained so well that you could imagine the chocolate boxes and almost smell the goods. Still waiting for the name of the chocolate wafer to change though.
The characters were developing nicely. One got his rightful comeuppance and different ethics and morals were explored well.
I can't wait for the next in the series.
Molly is following tradition and joining her sisters in the Rowntrees factory as a chocolate box girl. She meets Connie at her interview and is delighted when she starts the job that she’s working in the same place. They become great friends and lookout for each other but Connie’s life isn’t as good as Mollys.
Molly finds herself growing up fast.
Great start to a fantastic series looking forward to the next visit.
Firstly thank you Netgalley for this
Omg what can I say two of my favourite things family saga and chocolate
Can’t wait to read more
Winnie Freeman has worked hard to bring up her three girls, Rose, Annie and Molly after the death of her husband so is absolutely delighted when Molly the youngest secures employment with Rowntrees, the main employer in the town, alongside her sisters. When Molly meets Connie Whitehead at the interview will it be the beginning of a beautiful friendship or Will there be trouble ahead! Connie is quite envious of Molly who comes from a loving home in comparison to hers. Rose is walking out with Larry Batersby but friends and family keep telling her she could do better! Annie is a young woman not afraid to speak her mind.
My favourite character was Molly who could be quite naive, yet show wisdom beyond her years with some issues.
Least favourite has to be Robert Jones who abused his power( or sense of) to prey on young women afraid for their position.
My favourite part of book was when Molly met her special visitor, that would soften any heart. I felt a lump in my throat and smiled while reading it.
Look forward to the next one.
I love chocolate and reading about a chocolate factory made me hungry. A lovely story and very interesting about Rowntrees and the girls that worked there. I do hope there is more to come in this series. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
