I absolutely love a Christmas book whatever time of the year, but a new romance from Debbie Macomber just in time for the holiday season is just perfect timing. She is one of those authors that I know whenever I pick up a book, I will be transported to some lovely hallmark movie set.
This is a sweet romance, which definitely has enough christmas elements to make it feel like a Christmas book rather than just set at Christmas time. At just 288 pages it was short read which centres around Hailey Morgan, dodging her family Christmas this year as her over powering mother has invited her ex around to celebrate with them, she retreats to her friends cabin solo, only to run in to Jay the local mayor son. The two hit it off over their love of music and the romance begins.
I did enjoy the book but I didn't like as much as I usually would. It just all felt alit bit too cheesy for me this time around. I did however love the setting, the snow and the locals.
I'll be honest, I had a hard time with this one. I really loved the concept, the book cover is gorgeous, everything seemed perfect and I couldn't wait to get cosy, however there were many aspects of this book that had me angry. Hailey's family were far too invasive for me and that plot really destroyed the cosiness the rest of this story held. It had the potential to be a gorgeous festive read, which for many I can see it still was, however for me, there were too many characters that spoilt my experience.
Big fan of Macomber's christmas books and this was another heartwarming, beautiful story. I also love that Macomber is not afraid to pen the more difficult topics, which makes the books more realistic as most people are fighting unknown battles behind closed doors, and I felt this was such an empowering read.
Debbie Macomber's A Christmas Duet is a heartwarming holiday romance that struck a chord with me. Set in the quaint town of Podunk, the story follows Hailey and her sister Daisy as they navigate love, music, and family reconciliation. What I loved most was Hailey's journey of rediscovering her passion for music and her own self-worth, paired with Jay's growth as an artist and partner. The setting is cozy and festive, filled with small-town charm and Christmas magic. While some moments felt predictable, the uplifting themes and authentic characters made this a delightful read for the holiday season. Highly recommended for fans of sweet, inspiring romances!
It is always a pleasure to curl up with a new Debbie Macomber cosy Christmas book, and this was no exception.
What a fab time I had reading this book, complete with overbearing family members, a small town community in Podunk, and a new friendship that I loved seeing develop.
And it is full of festive feeling too, I especially loved the Winter festival in Podunk, and the various decorated Christmas trees. And some of the locals are just fabulous too.
The cabin that Hailey has escaped to for Christmas is massive, and she is determined to spend Christmas on her own, away from the ex that wants her back, and the family that have invited said ex for Christmas, so she can find herself again and have time to write music, something that is a part of her.
To say that her master plan, doesn't quite go as expected would be an understatement, but her connection to Jay was really lovely to see.
This is small town USA at Christmas at its very best, and I loved reading every minute of this story.
Thank you to Sphere and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
A cosy, easy read, perfect for Christmas.
My first book from this author, slightly disappointed with the predictability but exactly the sort of thing you'd expect from a light-hearted Christmas movie.
This was such a sweet book . Great ending, but two happy endings are just great . This was a fast, easy feel-good read. The romance honer fun i could see it all love this a fast read i recommend to you all
Hailey wants to spend Christmas by herself this year and her friend has just the right place, a log cabin in the middle of nowhere. The perfect place for Hailey to spend some quality time on her song writing.
But time by herself is not really what Hailey gets when she meets Jay and enjoys the warmth of the small community in the village nearby.
This feel good Christmas novel had all the ingredients for a pleasant read. Snow magic, hot chocolate, lovely people and family, even if the latter is a little too interfering sometimes. Nice positive characters, even Hailey’s mother is not so bad after all.
An enjoyable relaxing read on a winter day.
If you want a fun, festive, predictable fuzzy read this one needs to be picked up :) 3 stars for me 🌟🌟🌟
If you like Hallmark Christmas movies you'll love anything by Debbie Macomber and A Christmas Duet fits the bill perfectly. Hailey needs to get away from her ex and her family so that she can get back to what she loves, song writing, and an opportunity to go to a cabin over Christmas comes her way.
Going to a small town and meeting someone was not in her plans but plans can always change! A Christmas festival, viral video, Interfering parents and some surprise visits to shatter her peace are just some of the challenges that Hailey has to face but it all works out in the end.
A cute story that is so easy to fly through as with all of Macomber's books - perfect in the lead up to Christmas.
A lovely festive read. Hailey a teacher has finished school for Christmas needs a break and wants to take some time away to focus on her songwriting and not her mothers meddling with her ex boyfriend. Cue her friend who lends her the keys to her grandmas lodge in the middle of nowhere so she can write. She doesn’t want help but has to ask and meets Jay who helps her in more ways than one. A lovely read with an idyllic setting can her dreams come true?
Hailey gets the opportunity to escape her pushy mother (who's invited her stalkery very-ex boyfriend for Christmas) and go to her friend's grandmother's cabin in actual Podunk (apparently shorthand for a town that is very small and boring) for a couple of weeks so she can concentrate on her song writing. The son of the local shopkeeper/mayor helps her with a racoon problem and she quickly grows to like him and love the town and its country style values. But then her footloose and fancy-free sister Daisy turns up with a problem of her own, and any possible romance with Jay, who turns out also to be a musician and producer, gets squashed by a constant stream of visitors. Macomber's trademark small town community vibe and amusing romance is there and she updates herself to include going viral on YouTube, but the ending is a little abrupt.
I will be publishing my blog review on 3 December
This is the first book I read by Debbie Macomber. If an easy, fluffy Christmas romance is what you want, this is the perfect book for you.
The characters were likeable (apart from the mother I wanted to strangle her) and chapters flow easy. I find romance books very hit and miss as I find some can drag things on but this was just right.
I can imagine this story line to be a great movie
Would I recommend this to others? Yes, definitely a nice romance over the Christmas period
Feel good Christmas book, easy to read in one sitting. Predictable romance but if that's what you are looking for this fits the bill. Thank you netgalley for the advanced copy
A lovely romance full of the spirit of Christmas.
Hailey is not wanting to spent Christmas at her mothers house this year after she invited the ex. Her friend offered her a cabin in the hills away from everyone, it was a perfect place to concentrate on writing her music. Jay has come back to Poduck to spent his Christmas with his families, luckily they meet up when she needs help with a raccoon, but will love blossom.
A 5 star read, loved it. It’s a short book so easy to read in one sitting.
This is the first time I have read this author, the blurb sounded good. It seemed my type. Sadly I gave it time and tried to read it twice, in the end I gave up
Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
Hailey works in a school and over the years she’s let what others say have an impact on the decisions she’s made.
She loves music and is a musician. After a conversation with her mother who informs her that her ex has been invited to their house for Christmas, Hailey makes a decision that she’s had enough of everyone telling her what to do.
Then her friend informs her of a cabin which is totally secluded, meaning she’ll have no interference and can write her music, she jumps at the chance to spend Christmas on her own to do just that.
When she arrives, she finds it habited by wildlife, and Jay helps in getting them out.
He too is a musician. Hayley should stop her family from having a say about her life, and Jay is in a legal battle with the band members he was a part of.
I recommend this book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book with its' twists and turns, A fascinating read especially Hailey's familiy who just wouldn't listen to her. This was a real page turner which had me engaged from the begining.
I first want to take this opportunity to thank the author Debbie Macomber, @littlebrownbookgroup_uk and @netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read an arc of this wonderful novel.
If you're looking for a clean, festive romance story, then look no further. I devoured this entire book in one evening, it's that easy to read. From hand holding to chaste kisses it leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling inside. It also reminds you that you never know when or where you will meet your soulmate. But when you do, you will both instantly know it and what an amazing feeling that is. It's also lovely to have characters with old fashioned values. There's no rush to take the relationship to the next level. We should all hold out for someone who loves you, just the way you are.

A Christmas Duet is a cute and cosy Christmas book.
Hailey wants a quiet Christmas and also wants to avoid her ex-boyfriend Zach, who is unexpectedly back on the scene! Her friend Katherine offers Hailey her family’s cabin for the holidays, so she can spend time alone to concentrate on her music. Once there Hailey meets the handsome Jay, who as it happens, used to be a professional musician!
Just as Hailey and Jay are getting closer, the local Winter Festival launches Hailey into the spotlight, and the quiet and remote cabin Hailey was hoping would give her a peaceful retreat this Christmas, has some unexpected visitors!
A Christmas Duet was a cute read and would be lovely as a December book. Although I did enjoy it, I did feel that the end was very rushed and I was more taken at the end with Daisy and Charles than with the main characters Hailey and Jay.
All in all The Christmas Duet is a predicable, sweet, easy read, small town Christmas story reminiscent of a cosy Hallmark Christmas movie.
