I wish I didn't need this book, but I do and this is such a handy guide to understanding how to function as an adult having been raised by narcissists.
An interesting read, about the subject of narcissists. One too many in my life! Lol. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.
"Raised By Narcissists" is a powerful and insightful read that delves deeply into the impact of narcissism across generations. The book doesn’t lecture or impose opinions but instead builds chapter by chapter, allowing readers to form their own understanding. As someone who has experienced this type of parenting, I found the content incredibly relatable and eye-opening. The issues discussed resonated with me on a personal level, and I found it to be exactly what I needed at this moment in my life. I’ll definitely be purchasing it when it’s released—this book is a must-read for anyone dealing with similar experiences.
Dr. Sarah Davies' book Raised By Narcissists is a kind manual for kids who had toxic or narcissistic parents. The book provides choices for low-contact or no-contact parenting as well as tactics for handling relationships with parents who abuse their narcissistic tendencies. It discusses how a dysfunctional childhood affects one's perceptions about oneself and offers helpful guidance for ending the trauma cycle. Using a combination of personal experience and clinical knowledge, Davies provides doable solutions for healing and fostering a happier, more loving family. For anybody looking to comprehend and get over the affects of a narcissistic upbringing, this book is an invaluable resource.
These types of books should be made mandatory reading. This is a great insight into narcissism and how it can impact upon different generations. The author is able to make the material accessible and supportive all in one. There is no lecturing or opinions shared, instead every chapter expands on the next to allow for the reader to think for themselves. The author also shares personal examples, there is no oversharing, it’s very relevant to show others they are not alone and to apply the knowledge to real circumstances, which is so important. Even if you don’t have a parent that’s a narcissist I think having the awareness of others experiences would make for interesting and enlightening reading. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC. This is a voluntary review of my own thoughts.
