You know when you read a book by James Patterson you are in for a good, entertaining read. The House of Cross didn't disappoint at all. I've always liked this authors writing, particularly the short chapters that always grab and hold my attention and interest. I felt the story was a slow burner initially and I'm glad to say once I was familiar with the characters it began to pick up pace and became a very absorbing read full of thrills, suspense and action, exactly what I expect from this author. For a series that's now onto book 32, it still feels fresh and I look forward to the next book.
4 stars
Every time I read a James Patterson novel, I hold my breath and wonder... is this the one where he has finally run out of ideas! Once again, I needn't have worried.
Bree Cross and John Sampson are trying to discover whether M, the head of vigilante group, Maestro, died in an accident whilst Alex Cross is helping the FBI track down the killer of several judges.. When Bree and Sampson go missing, Cross sets off to find them only to discover that their cases are linked. Then Cross is kidnapped too ...
Another brilliant, rip-roaring read from James Patterson.
I haven't read a James Patterson book in a while so when I saw this one I couldn't resist.
The House of Cross is the 33rd book in the Alex Cross series. We follow the story from the first person POV of Alex and from the POV of some of the other characters, including his wife Bree, in the third person. The plot picks up threads from previous books as Alex, Bree and their friend Sampson search for their nemesis M, although this book can be read as a standalone.
This was still a quick, fun read, action packed albeit a little far fetched at times!
A recommended read for fans of James Patterson, Jack Reacher, and action-packed crime thrillers.
Thank you to Netgalley and Random House UK for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
It’s a long time since I’ve read a James Patterson, it took me a while to get into the story as it was a slow burn, overall I enjoyed the storyline, a little far fetched but would make a good action film. The relationship between the characters is good and I was routing for the good guys.
High in the snowy mountains a man is trying to escape his pursuers, but ultimately he runs out of road and his van crashes into a ravine. Meanwhile someone is out killing people high up in the American legal system and somehow these two strands are connected. In this novel involving the long running adventures of Alex Cross, Patterson again uses Maestro/M as the antagonist and Alex Cross, his wife, Bree and his best friend John Sampson end up in the snowy wilderness of northern Canada fighting for their lives.
If you are a fan of Alex Cross, this is another fast paced and intense novel in the series. If you've not read any previously it might be worth catching some of the earlier ones to have an idea of what is going on.
Meanwhile, suspend your disbelief, and hang on tightly for a rollercoaster ride as the story moves at a tremendous pace.
With thanks to Netgalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for an arc copy in return for an honest review.
When you see a Jane’s Patterson book about Alex Cross you know you won’t be disappointed.
It took me a while to understand the connections and to get my head around it. It certainly warmed up and by the end I was hooked
The next instalment in the Alex Cross series and it's just as fast-paced and riveting as the last one.
The story begins with a judge suffering from a strange attack, the death of a man named Malcomb (who Bree suspects is the serial killer M) and another judge's murder. And the murders don't stop there but if M is dead then who is killing them? Bree isn't convinced that Malcomb is really dead so she and Sampson go in search of the truth. It leads them into terrible danger while Alex is drawn in by the connection to Malcomb's mother. The question is, will they be able to solve the mystery before President Elect, Sue Winter, takes office and why are potential Supreme Court judges being targeted?
The book has a few twists and turns that will keep you guessing as to what is really going on. It's immensely readable as usual and I whizzed through it within a couple of days. My only criticism is that towards the end of the book the plot does become a little fantastical but I can forgive that for the sheer enjoyment of reading a thriller by a writer who rarely fails to delight and surprise.
Thankyou to Netgalley and Random House for the advance review copy.
Another fabulous book in the Alex Cross series. This book writes how Alex, Bree and Samson use their excellent skills to track down Maestro who has been killing many people in the past and more recently attached to the murders of 3 justices. These books are always so well written and not predictable in the storyline which can often happen in many long running series. A definite read for any Alex Cross fan.
James Patterson never fails to impress with the Alex Cross series and this is no different. Loved this book and the cliff hangers it gives as you work through the chapters.
I remember reading my first Alex Cross book: Along came a Spider while on night duty in Muscat, Oman and having to put it down close to the end because my heart was pounding and although I wanted to get to the end I didn’t want it to end! I then read many of the others but stopped after a while and have just resumed some 20 years later!
It’s lovely that some of the same characters are in the books. I enjoyed the Cross family’s Christmas - very heart warming. As for the rest of the book:
I found the beginning good and I was quickly gripped …….once I’d got the characters straight in my head. Then the middle bit was a bit slower and a little dragged out. Then came the dramatic ending set in the formidable weather up a mountain in Canada. There were no big surprises, well except one, but it was a tense ending.
I’ve always liked the character of Alex Cross and I’m tempted to go back to the start and read them all again.
James Patterson is a genius writer, I have read quite a few of his partnership books and enjoyed every one, particularly the two he wrote with ex-president Bill Clinton both amazing books.
My thanks, as always go to the author James Patterson, to the publishers and to NetGalley for an advanced reader copy of this book.
The House of Cross another James Patterson hit for me.
The top legal minds are being taken out Alex Cross steps in to find out why, and during his investigation, his wife Bree and his best friend John disappear.
Alex has only one thing he is focused on: finding his wife and friend and staying alive... what transpires from this investigation is jawdropping.
This is Pow Pow Pow action-packed and mind-blowing from the master himself is another hit for Alex Cross. Five Stars thank you
Please Keep them coming Mr Patterson :]
The 33rd installment in the Alex Cross series and it didn't disappoint. The hunt for criminal mastermind M continues, with Alex's wife Bree Stone and best friend John Sampson in the mix.
I found it a little slow at the beginning and but really enjoyed it. Another great addition to the Alex Cross series.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a nonstop action thriller that demands your complete attention from the offset.
A really enjoyable investigative tale.
Many thanks to NetGalley for a prerelease copy.
I love an Alex Cross book
Short chapters but lots of them. Why a read. Can't get enough
Thank you for the opportunity to review
The seeming serial killer of a number of judges is suspicious enough but when Alex sees a picture of the killer caught on CCTV it confirms that the mysterious organisation headed by M is involved. A dangerous mission to find and put an end to M before he fulfils his plot to influence the Governance of the USA leads Alex and his team into dire straits.
Another enjoyable Alex Cross book. I have read most of this series and although I admit I got a bit bored at one point, I now welcome each new one like a warm, winter coat. His family including that of his long time partner John Sampson are kind and loving but also driven and focused and that includes his 90 something grandmother, still at the centre of proceedings. In this particular book top people in the legal profession are being murdered and Alex sets out to find the perpetrators. HIs wife, Bree meanwhile is still fixated with the mysterious and evil M who has tormented Alex for many years. While investigating, Bree and John disappear and Alex is beside himself with fear. Will he find them before the extreme cold or M kills them? A fast paced book that has all the traits we love about Alex Cross and more. I am officially back as a fan.
Good read. Much like the other books in the Alex Cross series
Keeps you guessing right to the end.
Thoroughly enjoyable.
Thanks for the opportunity to read and review
'The House of Cross' is the latest installment of James Patterson bestselling Alex Cross Series. Special Advisor to the FBI and clinical psychologist Alex Cross and Ned Mahoney (FBI) investigate the murders of high-ranking judges. With the inauguration of President-elect Winter fast approaching, the pressure to solve the case is immense.
Simultaneously, Alex’ wife and Private Investigator Bree Stone and Alex’ best friend John Sampson (Metro PD) dive into the mysterious death of a tech billionaire who might be connected to Alex, Bree and Sampson’s nemesis criminal mastermind Maestro (M). But Bree and Sampson’s discovery about M puts them in grave danger and when Alex loses all communication with them, he fears the worst. A race to escape their kidnapper, but to also stay alive in the unforgiving, harsh and deadly beautiful landscape begins.
The book has a complex and intricately crafted plot full of non-stop action that leaves you breathless, but desperate to know what happens next. The chapters are short and snappy and before you know it, you’ve read half the book. In this book, Alex, Bree and Sampson finally make headway on discovering the identity of the elusive criminal mastermind M.
It was heart-warming to see the whole Cross family back together for the Christmas holidays, as was Nana Mama’s legendary cooking. I also loved that Bree and John Sampson team up for a case. I enjoyed the unconventional setting, which stands out, and the realistic descriptions of the gear that Alex needs in order to stay safe in this extreme environment, including heated suits, helmets and snowmobiles.
Once again, it becomes clear, that the power of technological advances can change the world.
Another great addition to the Alex Cross series and absolutely unputdownable. I finished the book in one day.
Thanks to NetGalley, Random House UK, Cornerstone Century, and James Patterson for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Alex Cross is back, looking for a serial killer who is killing judges.
His wife Bree, is looking into the death of billionaire tech genius, but are the cases connected?
A bit of a slow start, quite a few characters which you need to try and get straight in your mind (or I did anyway!) but after the first third, the book really swings into action.
Enjoyable read
If you are anything like me with your reading you will have read this latest instalment because you have read all the books in this series.
I have followed this series over a good few years now and look forward to each new instalment. I have followed not just the stories but the lives of the characters. I've seen them grow and progress and enjoyed every single minute of it.
One of my all time favourite series of books. So easy to read and follow yet interesting and gripping.
Cross and Sampson are put to test this time and have so much to fight for.
Superb read.
