I can't believe how many books are in this series.....all different. This book was a one sitting read as every time I went to put it down, something else happened. It's part of a series but I think it could probably be read as a standalone too as basic background is given, (plus I've skipped books if I can't afford them and don't think it hinders my enjoyment of the ones I do read). This book had Alex chasing around trying to find his wife and best friend who had gone missing. It contained plenty of action, which is probably why I read it so fast! A great addition to the series
I really enjoy this book series however I felt this was the first one where it got off to a slow start and took me longer to get in to it than usual. It was still a very good read with thrilling storylines and also reintroduced the M storyline who is now presumed to be dead.
A really good series which I highly recommend.
Cross is called into a case when high powered legal minds are murdered whilst hie wife Bree and Sampson are after a tech billionaire when they go missing and Cross has to solve his own case and also find Bree and Sampson.
I found a lot of the plot unbelievable hence the 3*
This is a worthy addition to the Cross series. A mysterious hidden organisation is trying to assassinate Supreme Court justices in order to create vacancies to influence the court’s decisions. The assassin has early success with three murders all at the time when a new president is being inaugurated to complicate the response. The book is a good read as would be expected and the amount of research that has gone in to it is impressive. Along with that goes a level of detail that can be irritating. No doubt that a reader will want to see how it ends. I recommend the book.
Even though I've read some of this series before I found the beginning to be very slow with a plethora of characters to deal with. Maestro, Cross's arch enemy, appears to have died but Cross still believes the organisation is very dangerous. Meanwhile his wife Bree and her partner John Sampson are tracking the killer of various high profile judges. Then Bree and John disappear.
The final chase to capture the villains before more people die is a high octane chase and very exciting, but the rest of the book is less gripping. It felt rather formulaic and a slow burn with few rounded characters.
Thank you to NetGalley, Random House UK and Cornerstone for allowing me access to the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A very exciting thriller in the Alex Cross series by James Patterson. A killer is out there and the judiciary is in their sight. Alex Cross is determined to bring the killer to justice. But why the judiciary? It seems someone is trying to skew the system and that person could possibly the head of Maestro, leader of a secret organisation that hoovers data and from its algorithms, good or ill can be the outcome.
If James Bond was a family guy, that would be Alex Cross. Even the destruction of the evil lair, near the end of the novel was like a Bond film.
A rip roaring read but nothing too taxing.
Alex Cross is back in this 32nd instalment of the cracking Cross series.
I must admit I was thinking for the past few books that this series was getting a bit tired. How wrong was I? This has all the trademarks of a classic Patterson. Cliffhangers, tension and twists to keep you hooked. A great book that I absolutely flew through. Loved it.
It’s time to put the guns down, Detective Cross. Even if you knew the way out of this place, we would catch you.
A serial killer is taking out America’s finest legals minds, and Alex Cross is called to investigate their brutal murders.
But during a dangerous mission to track down the killer, his wife, Bree, and best friend, John Sampson, go missing.
To save the people he loves most, Cross has only three goals:
Number one: Find Bree and John.
Number two: Escape.
Number three: Survive.
If he fails, there will be no one left in the House of Cross
Another gripping page turner Alex cross is an amazing series and this is a great addition.
Brilliant twists and the book draws you in from chapter one
You can always rely on James Patterson for a page turning read and this book is no exception. Brilliant from beginning to end. I ove the Alex Cross series and although this is part of a series and I’ve read them all you could enjoy t as a stand alone.
Another non stop action thriller from James Patterson. Both Alex and his wife Beth lives are a risk as someone is trying to bring down the US government and the top Judges. Not only do they face death in the wilds of Canada but also a maniac who has amazing computer skills. The conclusion was as good as the rest of the story.
Another great instalment in the Alex Cross series as they try and track down the elusive M. Great to see the usual characters back and the storyline leaves you gripped wanting to find out what comes next! Highly recommended.
Really enjoyable. I've lost touch with Cross about 10 years ago due to giving up reading for some time. So it was great to get back to it. I've probably missed about 10/12 books? Anyway seems different from what I can remember and it went all James Bond at one stage. I love the short chapters as well everything as usual moves along with pace. Excellent & I will be giving a 5⭐ review on Goodreads. See below
Been some time since I read JP and how I've missed him. Cross is all James Bond at times in this and it's fast paced and excellent all the way through. I recommend but then again all Cross books are excellent. This was an ARC copy which I've received no incentive for just the pleasure of reading it as one of the first. Fully recommend.
A great instalment in the series with the wonderful Alex Cross.
Just as you would expect from this talented author a wonderful engrossing thriller.
My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
The 32nd book in the Alex Cross series sees our protagonist investigate the killing of prominent US judges when his wife Bree and best friend Sampson go missing in the Canadian wilds. Fast paced and clever, I was delighted to be reunited with Cross, his family and friends. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc.
I love the Alex Cross series, I feel very invested in what happens to his family and friends, whether in their private lives or their work. There’s always a good plot (if at times a little scarily so), you get a decent bad guy or two, travel vicariously to some great places and know (or hope, with fingers crossed) that the mystery is solved and the villains get sorted out. Excellent read. As always.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Someone is killing prominent judges and Alex Cross has to investigate with Ned Mahoney from the FBI.
It looks like the work of a professional assassin but why?
Ryan Mascomb, billionaire and suspected leader of the vigilante organisation Maestro has died in a traffic accident but Cross, his wife Bree Stone and his partner John Sampson are suspicious.
A fast-paced thriller ranging from DC to California,Idaho and Nevada keeps you on the edge of your seat
Another great tale from Patterson!
I would like to thank Netgalley and Century Publishing for the chance to read and review this book.
I’ve always enjoyed reading James Patterson’s books, especially the Alex Cross series, so when I was granted an ARC of this book I was very pleased.
I found this book hard to wrap my head around at first which made the book feel slow paced getting started for me. However, once I got around a third of the way into the book, I read the remainder of it in a matter of hours. I suddenly became extremely invested in the plot and constantly wanted to read on to find out what twist was going to be revealed next. As the book progressed I found that everything that I felt was all over the place at first, eventually linked together and made for a really interesting and well written storyline.
Despite feeling underwhelmed at the beginning, I ended up throughly enjoying this book and would highly recommend it. It most certainly lived up to the high standard of the other books in the Alex Cross series. Thank you NetGalley for my ARC.
Loved this book. Alex Cross is a proper hero, with family his number one priority. Great storyline, very technologically up-to-date and intriguing. I can't wait until the next one. Long live Alex Cross.
I can’t believe we’re on the 32nd book in the amazing Alex Cross series and like the previous 31 instalments this one has not disappointed. James Patterson is really a gifted author and I will read everything he releases and recommend this page turner book to anyone who likes detective stories. Can be read as a first standalone book but I promise if this is the first book you read in the series you’ll be reading them all!
Over 30 years ago, at the tender age of 12, I can vividly recall standing staring at my mum's little bookcase, set on the landing at the top of the stairs. Placed on that bookcase was a book that would excite me like no other had ever done (I had by then far outgrown children's books). Picking it up, I sat and read, and read, and read until the very end. That book was Along Came A Spider, the very first Alex Cross novel and the start of my James Patterson obsession.
Now 31 years and 32 books in later, and that excitement has never waned.
In the latest addition, there are a spate of murders of prominent figures within the US government/judicial system. Ned Mahoney calls in the help of Alex Cross whilst his wife Bree and ex partner Sampson are still investigating Maestro, heading by the elusive M.
It's not long until all the clues bring both teams together when Bree and Sampson, while on the trail of Maestro, go missing.
Alex Cross stops what he is doing to go and find them, leading him to the desolate southern Canada.
Fans of this series will absolutely love just how prominent Maestro is in this book, it finally feels like the team is getting somewhere! Can they finally track him down before he reigns ever more havoc, or will he once again avoid the ones that have been chasing him for years?
This installment was a lot more 'case' based than previous books, less about their personal lives but still enough to keep their characters developing, even after 30+ years.
This has easily got to be one of my all-time favourites in this series. It was full-on action from the very beginning and sucked me deep into its guts until spitting me out at the very end.
Huge thanks to Netgalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for the ARC.
