A captivating new world, characters that you just root for, and an end game goal that is hidden behind challenges and obstacles aplenty. This was right up my street!
No words. It’s one of the best fantasy books I’ve ever read, and I loved the heist trope. So well thought out and so extremely well written. I’ll be recommending this book to every single person I’m talking to.
The power dynamics were incredible. I loved how Jura got progressively worse the closer he got to the throne and power, and Teia realized she wanted to be the one on the throne instead of her half brother the closer they got to the coronation day. And a small detail I really liked was Teia correcting people every time they referred to Jura as her brother. Her saying “half brother” out loud every single time just tells me how well the author understands the sibling dynamics, which in this case has a more lethal edge. It made me cackle.
I was happy that Teia finally found a family that she felt like she finally fit in. I liked the bantery relationship she had with the Dawnbreakers, so imagine my shock in the final few chapters. But I’m glad that at least she still has Enna.
I really loved this book. With the way that it ended, I can’t wait for the Dawnbreakers return and see what’s going to happen next. Thank you Hachette Children’s Group for allowing me to read this book as an ARC. I didn't have time to make a video on Tiktok yet, but I plan to. You can find the video at @selenreads on Tiktok when I finally upload it. I'll make sure to tag the published and the author in the captions.
Enjoyed where I got to but unfortunately didn't get to finish the ARC in time due to illness. But where I did read I absolutely fell in love with the story
This is one of those books where you don't know whether or not to root for the main character because it's safe to say Teia is morally grey and though she's in a very difficult situation herself, she certainly does choose some destructive roads to go down! Her brother is a dangerous tyrant of a king-to-be who treats her as though she's a powerless puppet but Teia proves herself to be cunning, brave, and dangerous. It was interesting watching her story unfold, seeing the decisions she makes and her motivations. The heist elements of the books were most interesting because of how they brought together different characters and we got to better know some of them, and like them. Overall it's an intriguing story with villains and danger, and a tricky to predict plot.
I received a free copy of this book. All views are my own.
This book captivated me from page one with its morally grey characters and six of crows styled impossible heist. Add in rebellion, royalty and courtly politics and you have a book that feels like it was written just for me.
Each of the characters from our main protagonist to the supporting crew were expertly crafted, creating anti heroes you couldn't help but root for and an villain who honestly still give me the creeps. Their intentions are laid bare and each characters journey develops in a way that keeps you hooked, waiting to see what will happen to them next. Our MC is complex and learning about herself as we too learn about her, She's driven by her own desires and often has warring feelings, which you feel her struggle with. She's been trapped in political schemes as long as she can remember, and isn't shy about doing what it takes to survive her half brothers attempts on removing her from the playing board.
I had so much fun with this book, it's gripping, full of betrayals, schemes and its characters will stay with you long after you finish the last page. For a debut the way the author has managed to weave together political intrigue, morally grey characters, rebellion and heists and yet created such a well crafted world has me ready to read anything they bring out in the future
In this YA fantasy debut, we follow Teia, the princess of Erisia, as she falls in with the Rebellion in an attempt to protect herself from the machinations of her soon-to-be-king half-brother.
This was a fun read with relatable characters. I enjoyed how morally grey Teia was, although I did find her counterpart Kyra to be unreasonably naive. The twists and turns kept me thoroughly entertained, and the final cliffhanger makes me wish for the next book already!
A recommended read for fans of Six of Crows, These Violent Delights, and heist books with morally grey heroines.
Thank you to Netgalley and Hachette Children's Group for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A fantastic YA read- full of action, mystery, betray and unexpected twists. Loved the world created and the morally grey heroine. This story was a brilliant read and I look forward to the next one.
Inferno's Heir is a captivating journey led by the compelling protagonist, Teia, an unforgettable anti-heroine whose evolution throughout the story kept me thoroughly engaged. Teia’s character arc is nothing short of fascinating, but she is not alone in her quest; the diverse cast surrounding her adds rich layers to the narrative.
Among my favourite characters were Kyra and Enna, each bringing their distinct personalities and intriguing backstories that enhanced the story’s depth. The dynamics between these characters offer unique perspectives, making the plot all the more engaging.
The author’s world-building is exceptional. I found myself effortlessly immersed in the vividly described settings without feeling overwhelmed by excessive details. The atmospheric descriptions and well-crafted locations draw you in, allowing you to lose yourself in the narrative. The mythology and magic system of this universe are intricately developed, and I eagerly anticipate more exploration of these elements in the sequel.
For fans of fantasy, rebellion, and strong female protagonists, Inferno’s Heir is an absolute must-read. This gripping, intense page-turner will leave you yearning for more, ensuring you’ll be counting down the days until the next instalment!

"Inferno's Heir" by Tiffany Wang was an interesting read that had its ups and downs but still managed to keep me hooked. The start was a bit slow, but once I got past the beginning, the middle of the book really pulled me in. The action, missions, and new characters made it so much more exciting. When the story picks up, it’s full of fast-paced events and clever twists.
Teia, the main character, stood out the most for me. She’s sharp, determined, and isn’t afraid to use blackmail to get what she wants. Her morally gray decisions made her a fascinating character, and even when she made mistakes, it made her feel more real.
The scheming and political games were some of my favorite parts. There’s also a subtle romance subplot, which added a little extra spark without taking over the story. I also loved the side characters, especially the “found family” vibe they brought to the story.
That said, I did feel the ending was rushed. The villains had so much potential, but things got a bit unclear towards the end. I also found the flashbacks early on a little confusing—they interrupted the flow rather than adding much to the story. While they did reveal more about Teia’s past, they didn’t feel all that necessary.
Despite these small issues, I really enjoyed the heart of the story, and I’m excited to see where the series goes. The cliffhanger was intense, and I can’t wait for the next book. As a debut, it was impressive, and Tiffany Wang shows a lot of promise as a writer.
This book is so damn good. I've had quite a few delightful surprise favorites this year, and Inferno's Heir has rightfully earned its place amongst them.
The best quality about this book is definitely the characters, main and side cast alike. Teia is morally gray, but it's very easy to sympathize with her and understand why she is the way she is, despite the morally dubious decisions she makes over the course of the novel (Especially at the end, cuz, man, it really shows how ruthlessly ambitious Teia is). She's also very sarcastic and snarky, which makes excellent chemistry with the rest of the colorful cast of characters. It reminded me so much of Six of Crows with how heavily the story is carried by amazing dialogue and complex dynamics between all these characters (They also break into a prison-twice, even-but that's where the similarities end).
The worldbuilding was also very interesting. I wish there was a map so I could visualize the land better (All fantasy books need maps, dammit), but the descriptors given in test gave enough to understand the baselines of this world. It's highly implied that there will be a sequel at the end, and Teia will be exploring her mom's homeland. As interesting as Erisha was, I cannot wait to experience another country and its culture in this world. The story was also so engaging and had me guessing at every new reveal. I had some ideas in mind that were completely proven wrong, but the reveals that were made only enhanced my enjoyment.
All in al, this was such a great read. I hope the sequel will be so once this book is officially released, because I really want to know what happens next!
