I love Gina Harte and have read all 16 of Carla’s books featuring her and this one does not disappoint in fact I think this is one of the best! When the local vicar Sally is worried about Nell, one of the young mums at the church mother and baby group, she follows her home to find baby Alfie crying and Nell dead. There follows a twisty turny tale that will keep you guessing until the end - I thought I’d figured it out about halfway through but was proved wrong a few pages later! Gina and her team are at their best and I’m already looking forward to book 17!
Gina is back with a twisty case. This one keeps you guessing right up to the jaw dropping reveal. There's also some new things happening in Gina's personal life. This series never fails to deliver intriguing cases.
The mystery in this book was extremely complex and involved a lot of moving parts as well as people, but that is what made it so gripping to me as the reader. I love a challenge when I am reading a crime thriller/mystery. There were curveballs thrown in every direction, just when I thought I had solved the mystery, that would take me in another direction.
This killer is brutal and sadistic. As Gina Harte and the other detectives investigate this case, they realize that almost everyone they have talked with is either lying or, at the very least, withholding information that is needed to solve the young mother's murder. The characters in this book were interesting to the say the least. You will understand when you read it.
This author knows how to spin a tale, and this one was super in every way that is needed to make a crime thriller exciting. Crime thrillers/police procedural lovers will devour this book. Prepare yourself for a thrill ride and put on your thinking cap.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
One Last Prayer by Carla Kovach is the 16th book in this excellent. Detective Gina Harte series. This has been a series that I have been hooked from the very first book and I have loved reading this series. This latest book is full of twists and turns throughout, that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat, plus anything you had planned for that day will be out of the window, you will be gripped and want to read more to find out what happens next.
"She races home, her young son clasped tightly to her chest, glancing over her shoulder at every face she passes. She reaches the safety of her home, closing the door behind her. Little does she know the danger that awaits her inside…
When local vicar, Sally, packs away the brightly coloured toys and dog-eared books left over from a morning parent and toddler group, her heart pounds as she discovers a note left
‘Help me.’
Sally knows the mother who sat in that spot. Rushing to Nell’s small house nearby, her feeling of dread grows. Her frantic knock goes unanswered. Inside, she hears Nell’s one-year-old son Alfie crying, but still Nell doesn’t come.
Running to the back of the house, Sally’s breath catches at the sight of Nell’s lifeless body laid out in the garden.
When police investigate the young mother’s tragic death, rumours start to spread. Some say Nell had enemies. Some say she wasn’t telling the truth about who she really was. And some say she was running from a dark past.
With reports of a mysterious figure seen watching Nell’s house, it’s clear whoever took her life is close by. And when a break-in at the church ends with a brutal attack on Sally, the vicar who found Nell’s body, it’s clear that this killer isn’t finished yet…..............."
WoW.....this book is So good I highly recommend all these books within this series, They have all been a 5 star read and this one was no different!
Gina races to find all the answers but she’s fumbling around rather blindly.
The scenes are gruesome and unsightly but also revealing.
I feared Gina would keel over but she sticks it out until the end.
But Kovach left me on a cliff hanger so I have to teem with impatience until the next case with Harte giving it her all!
Number 16 in the Gina Harte series and another belter of a good read.
There are lots of possible villains here, lots of twists and turns, and you're definitely kept on your toes trying to work out who the real culprit is, who turns out to be one I never saw coming.
Along with the great main plot the subplot simmers along nicely, health issues for Gina have you sure she's at a physical crossroads and badgering emails and messages ensure she's at a mental one too.
While the main plot is tied up at the end, we are left at a cliff edge in the subplot, as it seems Gina can never escape her past.
Another brilliant book in the Detective Gina Harte series.
Gina is called when a young woman is found dead in her garden by the local vicar, Sally. Her toddler is alone in the house so Sally agrees to look after him until family can be contacted.
Sally tells Gina that Nell had seemed upset at the church group that morning which is why she went to her house afterwards.
Gina and Jacob start the investigation and it’s clear not everyone is giving them the full facts.
When another body is found it throws the investigation into a new direction and Gina and the team have their hands full trying to track down the killer.
Gina is also suffering from chest pains and with some nasty emails being sent to her as well, she is finding things hard.
This is a brilliant crime thriller that I’d highly recommend.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
What a great book! What happened to Nell isn't something she deserved. For a moment, I expected her to may be the villain in her own Story but I never expected to happen what did happen! It was a thrilling read and kept me guessing up until the last few pages! Definitely worth a read!
Another great installment of the DI Gina Harte series. When a young woman Nell is murdered there are potentially a lot of suspects, her next door neighbour Darrah, her friend Kira. Nell has a little boy called Alfie and Sally the vicar takes him under her wing.. Nell also has a sister called maeve who is a successful business woman and they havnt really had much to do with each other, but Alfie is her nephew., she is also convinced their father killed her, just like he killed their mom but did he? What will happen? Will Gina and the team solve the case. I loved it highly recommend.
Gina is called to a gruesome crime scene. A young mother , Nell, has been murdered in her garden, leaving her little boy alone in the house. Thankfully, the local Vicar, Sally, was worried about her and arrives and manages to shield the child from the body.
When they contact her sister, Maeve, as next of kin, she tells them that Nell's father had recently been released from jail and was probably the culprit.
In a twisting and turning tale of murder and jealously, Gina and her team have a series of red herrings placed before them. There is also the side theme of domestic abuse and threats that Gina is receiving. She is also worried about her own health.
A real page turner.
This is book 16 in the Detective Gina Harte series. I recommend reading the complete series. There is so much back story to Gina and her team that is important to know.
What a story!!
So many red herrrings!
So many secrets!
So much going!
I was literally on edge the whole time reading One Last Prayer.
A gripping and very addictive story from author Carla Kovach. She keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the story.
I never did quite figure out how the story was going to end.
I do have to say, Gina is getting a bit on my nerves as she doesn’t take care of herself nor does she realize she needs to accept help from others. I am hoping with the next book things are improving for her.
If you are looking for a great detective series, this is one you should pick up.
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Enjoyed this one! It had me turning the pages to get to who was behind the murders. I had a few suspects in mind, and the author threw me for a loop a couple of times. Lots going on in this one and I can recommend. Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for an advanced reading copy.
One Last Prayer by Carla Kovach is the 16th in the Detective Gina Harte series.
First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Series Background: (Warning – Contains spoilers from previous books)
DI Gina Harte works homicides. Her team consists of: DS Jacob Driscoll, DC Harry O’Connor and DC Paula Wyre, with a lot of assistance from PC Smith and PC Kapoor. Gina is a stubborn lady, and a determined detective. She has had a rough life, which has led to an uneasy relationship with her daughter Hannah and grand-daughter Gracie. It has also led to a lack of real friends. She is in an on-again/off-again relationship with her boss, DCI Chris Briggs, but they keep it quiet. It is also not common knowledge that Gina's husband was abusive, and only Briggs knows that she did nothing to save him when he fell to his death many years ago.
My Synopsis: (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions)
Nell, a single mother, is found dead, her eyes removed. The local vicar, Sally, steps in to care for her one-year old son Alfie until they can find Nell's next of kin. It turns out that Nell's father, Ross Craven, has just been released from prison, and all eyes hunt for him. Her step-sister Maeve was not close to Nell, but feels somewhat obligated to at least meet Alfie....but she is worried about Ross too!
When the church is broken into, and Sally attacked, it becomes evident that there may be more going on than originally thought.
It looks like the killer may not be done yet!
Meanwhile, Gina is struggling with a health issue.
My Opinions:
First, Gina really annoyed me in this one....a health issue which she puts aside so that she can solve the crime -- a little egotistical, don't you think?
The plot was quite good, with enough characters to keep me guessing about the real perpetrator. I was wrong! That was great, because it meant that there were enough red herrings to confuse me.
Speaking of characters....I love Sally! She's a great addition to any book in which she appears.
So overall, although I was disappointed with Gina, the book was a fast and entertaining read, and I'm looking forward to the next one!
This is book #16 of the Gina Harte series. Whilst it is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone, although I would recommend reading it in series order for better understanding of the characters storylines. I've read all of this series and have really enjoyed them. I love Gina's character and can easily relate to her. We join her and her team in the investigation into the murder of a young single mum, Nell who is found dead in her garden with her 1 year old son close by still alive.
This was a gripping and suspense filled read. Nell's murder did pull at my heartstrings when we found out her young son was nearby, and I felt so sorry for him and what he may have saw. That however was soon overtaken with the investigation into Nell's death and we are given a good amount of suspects to choose from. There are lots of twists and turns throughout the story and I found myself swapping and changing my mind as to who I thought was the killer.
The storyline unfolded well and flowed along at a great pace with Gina doing a great job of leading the investigation. I've felt for Gina's character so much during some of the books in the series after everything that she had been through, and it's good to see that she seems a lot more settled in herself. Let's hope that continues over into the next book! With lots of red-herrings this book will definitely get you scratching your head along with Gina and the rest of the team, and it will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last page. This is another good addition to a great series. Would recommend!
I love the new detective Gina Harte book which I found much more intriguing and really kept me guessing until the last page, I also preferred the fact that in this book the action was really at the centre and we had less of Gina's personal turmoil to consider, she really grew now to take care of her own things and I prefer her this way. Thanks a lot Netgalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book!
My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘One Last Prayer’, book 16 in the Detective Gina Harte series written by Carla Kovach, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Sally, the vicar at Cleevesford, is concerned about Nell who’s just attended her mother and baby meeting but when she goes to Nell’s home she finds her dead in the garden and eighteen-month-old Alfie left unattended in the house. As DI Gina Harte investigates what becomes a very difficult and convoluted case, she’s worried about her own health and the text messages she’s receiving from an unknown number.
‘One Last Prayer’ is an addictive police thriller about Nell and her father Ross Craven who’s just been released from prison after killing her mother. This is a fast-paced and intriguing thriller with interesting characters all of whom are considered to be suspects at some time in the story. There are so many twists and turns that although I tried to work out who was responsible the discovery of new evidence kept making me change my mind. I was gripped throughout especially as the red herrings confused Gina and her team, but there were so many suspects towards the end that when the person responsible was finally revealed it wasn't what I was expecting. I’m already looking forward to reading the next book in the series as the cliff-hanger on the final page promises more problems are on their way for Gina Harte.
Thank you to NetGalley for my copy
Another great story from Carla Kovach about Detective Gina Harte.
When a young woman is murdered Gina and her team need to find the culprit, buy then another young woman is killed.
A good story with red herrings and misdirections. I don’t like the back story, I think it’s gone on to long, but that could be just me.
This is book 16 in the DI Gina Harte series. I haven’t read the whole series so can definitely be read as a standalone but if you like to know the backstory that is referenced you are better to start from the beginning. It starts off at a slow pace and eases you in and then it gets going and doesn’t let up. I flew through this one as it weaves a really interesting storyline with many a surprise and change of direction. Well developed storyline and characters. Really likeable characters especially the DI Gina Harte’s team. It all came together well with no unanswered questions. Really enjoyed this one and how the story unfolded. Looking forward to reading more of this series.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review #OneLastPrayer
What's it all about, Alfie?👶
4.5🌟stars
The murder mystery here is complex, twisty and unpredictable, starting with the macabre death of a young mother with her untouched toddler Alfie just steps away, and I certainly was kept in suspense right through to the end. I just found lead detective Gina Harte's health issues distracting and the way she handled them implausible.
I've been following this series through many books and the author has a way with her plots that sets them apart from the mainstream of police procedurals.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
It is no secret that I am a massive fan of Gina Harte, her team and her fabulous creator Carla Kovach. I eagerly anticipate the next release as soon as I finish the newest one.
This storyline in this next installment is filled with lots of different POVS which felt very different to a usual Gina Harte book. Including seeing previous character coming to the forefront of the story.
Not only do you follow the cases with this team, but there is always a background storyline that continues through the series. Getting to know everyone better and all that goes on in their lives.
The last 40% of this book was very hard to put down and very addictive. Had my heart racing, nails bitten as far as they will go with the suspense and waiting for everything to be revealed.
As always another installment of the series that is addictive and fantastic. Will eagerly be stalking for the next one. Especially after finishing on that cliffhanger.... I hope it's not too long of a wait.
