This is the most current non-dairy and gluten-free resource that I am aware of. It is a well-written book with clear directions. The weights for the ingredients is most appreciated. I made the peanut butter cookie sandwiches. They were delicious. I will be trying more recipes and spreading the word to my dairy-free friends.
Cant wait for this to come out so I can get a physical copy.
The conversions page and subsitutions are always a life saver.
It introduced me to pea protein milk! Not my favorite for drinks, but I see why it's the recommended one for baking.
If you're new to the cooking and baking world there's a pretty basic but informative glossary at the start that's helpful.
The photo quality is great, though I think the overall photography is a bit lacking, but that's not what we're really focusing on, is it?
The recipes are short and sweet. Almost all recipes are one page, so it's easy to keep track of where you are and the layout helps a lot too.
I haven't had the time to try every recipe yet, but I've tried enough to be confident in saying they're yummy and I looked forward to trying the all out! The only one I haven't been a fan of so far is the donuts, and that's really just a personal thing about the texture I like for my donuts. The rest work fine as is, or with minor substitutions to work for our needs and climate.
There's no magic way of getting the exact same lightness you can get with gluten flour, but so all the GF takes on my favorite goodies, have turned out beautifully. Just a little denser.
It's amazing how far GF baking has come in the few decades, and I'm happy to serve this to my family.
Craveworthy Baking by Danielle Cochran is jam-packed with wondrous recipes to satisfy any gluten-free and lactose-free craving, sweet or savoury. Often cookbooks contain a handful of favourites but this is different. Nearly all of them excite me!
I was diagnosed with celiac and lactose intolerance fifteen years ago (no longer lactose intolerant) and am an experienced and passionate baker. New gluten-free books on the market always grab my attention. Some are ho hum, others good. But this one fills a creativity, originality and innovation void. Whilst many recipes are classics, others are new and bold. Just what my baking soul needs. To be clear, though this book contains tips, ingredients and emergency substitutes, gluten-free and lactose-free information is not comprehensive. But if recipes are what you crave, this is for you. The photographs are mouthwatering and inspiring.
The Basque Cheesecake with Strawberry Sauce is incredibly good. Basque Cheesecake has been a regular in our household for several years. Recipes on my list to make include Chocolate Caramel Revel Bars, Banana Bread Cookies, Strawberry Shortcake Blondie Bars, Orange Creamsicle Cupcakes, Cream Puffs with Butterscotch Pastry Cream, Éclairs, (I haven't made cream puffs or eclairs for a few years...hello, butterscotch pastry cream), Soft Baked Pretzels and Cheese and Scallion Scones. If those don't sound sublime nothing will.
My sincere thank you to Quarto Publishing Group - Fair Winds and NetGalley for providing me with an early digital copy of this delectable book.
Having followed a gluten free lifestyle in my past, I understand the trouble it is to convert recipes using wheat flour to gluten free flour. In Craveworthy Baking, Danielle Cochran has taken the guess work out of gluten free baking and given us a treasure trove of go to recipes for any occasion. I appreciate that she used mainly a 1:1 GF flour blend in the recipes, instead of using a ton of different blends of flours that will just fill my pantry. While she lists a preferred brand of GF bread flour, I wish she would have included her preferred brand of GF 1:1 AP flour, as this different can effect recipes. If it was mentioned, I didn't see it. (I use Bob's Red Mill GF 1:1 and like the results) The first recipe I try from any baking cookbook is the chocolate cookie recipe because I believe that if the author can't get that recipe right, then they probably won't get the rest of the recipes right. I'm happy to report that these chocolate cookies were perfect, passing my test of sharing with friends and them not believing that they could possibly be gluten free. Thank you Danielle for a deliciously beautiful book!
What a fab guide for gluten-free and dairy-free baking! That cover grabbed me and the delicious recipes for cookies, cakes, bread, cupcakes, and bars kept my mouth watering. Perfect for bakers at all levels.
Love how the author has included the universal equivalents for measurement and temperature. There is a section for baking substitutes and essential kitchen ware. Easy to follow instructions, with pictures. Can’t wait to try the Strawberry Shortcake Blondie Bars or the Banana Bread Cinnamon Rolls. This has quickly become my favorite cookbook.
This one grabbed me in from the cover. It is beautiful and well organized. I immediately wanted to go into the kitchen and get to baking. Lots of mouth watering recipes to cure any sweet tooth
Delicious and simple enough recipes anyone can make and enjoy! Though I'm not gluten-free, I do have several family members who are, and I know will deeply appreciate the effort. I love that the measurements are written in both cups and grams (as this is something every baker struggles with). Definitely recommend!
This book is amazing! Not only do the recipes sound delicious, the design and photos really tied it all together nicely! I’ve all ready marked my favorites and will definitely give it a shot!
I’m always happy to find new gluten free recently as it is hard to find well tasting gluten free and dairy free recipes
Thank you Netgalley and Quarto Publishing house for my ARC copy. Delicious looking desserts that I wanted to make immediately.
Uncomplicated gluten-free and dairy-free baking! I just finished binge-watching 4 seasons of The Great British Bake Off so getting this cookbook came at the perfect time, as an avid baker I'm happy to report that the recipes include gram measurements, as well as regular cup ones!! It's hit and miss with some cookbooks and how they measure ingredients, but if you bake a lot, you know how important it is to weigh ingredients. This book gives you simple recipes that don't compromise on flavour while remaining delicious and easy to execute, I can feel the Paul Hollywood handshake coming my way!
Thank you NetGalley and Danielle Cochran for providing the ARC!
A great cookbook full of all the desserts you love, and also those you’ve never heard of - banana bread cookies? Never occurred to me that we can make these into cookies!
The layout of this book is beautiful! It its easy to read and I love the breakdown of the ingredients and baking/cooking steps. I gravitated towards this books because I'd love to bake more and often find myself making the same things over and over. AND I'm lactose intolerant, so these recipes are perfect. I can still enjoy delicious treats and not upset my stomach. My husbands birthday was yesterday and I made the "Gooey S'mores Brownies (I make him brownies every year as opposed to a cake) and they were amazing!! I can't stress it enough at how good they were! "I cannot wait to get my hands on this book when it hits stores, I'll be adding it to my cookbook collection.
Thank you Netgalley and Quarto Publishing house for my ARC copy.
This is such a good cookbooks. It is so nice for there to be a completely dairy and gluten free baking based cookbook. As someone who is lactose intolerant and loves baking, I really love how easy the recipes are, and how accessible and easy to find the ingredients are.
Flipping through 'Craveworthy Baking' is enough to get your mouth watering and your motivation reignited to get back into baking or even trying it for the first time in a real way. Cochran details dietarily accessible recipes that look divine in the gorgeous visuals, while not feeling overwhelming to tackle. Genuinely left reading this cookbook with loads of recipes I want to try, both classics and new-to-me, that now no longer feel out of reach.
I want to try every single recipe in this lovely baking cookbook. There are the classics, such as Angel Food Cake and Cinnamon Rolls. To new ideas, like Peaches and Cream Cheesecake Bars. There is also a section of popular types of breads, and it is even better since they are gluten free recipes. I sure am excited to try these!

Great compilation of dairy free and gluten free recipes. I work as a baker and we are always looking for new recipes to try, specially this kind to help accommodate peoples dietary needs. I like the page on measurements, weight and temperatures, it is very useful. Also the the bit on emergency baking substitutions, very helpful and handy too. The recipes are done very well with good variety, easy to understand and precise. I can't wait to try and make some of this recipes like the Peanut Butter and Jelly Oatmeal Bars, the S'mores Brownies or the Gingerbread Cupcakes for the holidays.
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Fair Winds for the opportunity to read this ARC and share my honest review.
I am not a cookie/biscuit or cake fan - I only like a few types and I can live without those. Though, when I wish to bake cakes for my loved ones (they make amazing gifts and motivational sparks), I need recipes like in this book - easy, quick, accessible but still wholesome and rich.
In other words, this is a rich and very well-presented book with recipes for cakes, cookies, breads (yes, there are savoury bakes included), cupcakes, desserts like creme brûlée. Pure excellence.
A new cookbook that features recipes that are both gluten free and dairy free. I liked the variety here, plus there were pictures for every recipes, which I love! I also like that Cochran created recipes where you can just easily substitute flour with gluten and normal butter without really any modifications (maybe time a little, but no weird ingredient rearranging, etc.).
