Ten years ago, fifteen-year-old Scarlett Crosby was held captive in a terrifying ordeal with a girl named Della. Scarlett escaped, their predator was killed, and Della simply vanished. Detective Kevin Dawson always wondered if Della even existed. A decade later, a girl’s body is discovered—a link to Scarlett’s horrific past—and all her old traumas resurface. So does Della. Scarlett fears there isn’t a living soul she can trust.
I’m on a roll with my thriller choices lately, as they’ve all been amazing. This was no exception! I kept wondering how much of an unreliable narrator Scarlett was from the beginning, and it made a very intriguing reading experience!
The pace in this one was great. It was fast enough to keep me hooked, but it wasn’t a fleeting action-only popcorn thriller. The psychological thriller aspect had the level of depth that just worked for me.
I’d recommend jumping in blind, as it would take you on a journey. I loved the audiobook narration on this - pace, intonation, sound quality were spot on. I should read more from the author!
What a wild ride. It is dark and disturbing and like a train wreck you just can't turn away from. At times I had no idea where it was heading and it caught me off guard on more than one occasion.
I really liked the premise and thought it was executed well. A current case for a detective that relates to a case he worked 10 years ago narrating along with the victim from the previous case.
It's fast paced and kept my attention from the beginning to the end.
Jesse Vilinsky and David DeVries do a great job of bringing the story to life. Jesse put a lot of emotion into Scarlett and her past and present struggles while David captured Dawson's layers and secrets.
Scarlett endured a horrific 88 days held captive in a basement. Even though her captor is dead he still haunts her and when a body is found and potentially tied to him. Told in a dual timeline this book is a dark journey. I enjoyed this audiobook as the narrator was very good.

Another Girl Lost focuses around Scarlett a survivor of serial rapist and murderer Tanner Reed. The story starts with Scarlett in police custody being accused of multiple murders. Do I have your attention? Obviously, right from the start I was totally gripped to this story.

This is told in a dual timeline between Scarletts entrapment and in the present, years after. I loved Burton made a lot of the reliable but at the same time unreliable. I know that hardly makes any sense but there were numerous times throughout this story that I didn’t trust each of our main characters.

This was a pretty steady novel until about the halfway point when I feel like it fizzled out a bit. There was some romance, which did make sense for the story line, and then a ton of repetition. I felt like the ending was a tad bit rushed, but I really did enjoy where Burton went with this one.

I listened to this one via audiobook and Jesse Vilinsky and David de Vries were great in their roles as Scarlett and Detective Dawson. They complimented each other great. Easy to follow along. Highly recommend the audio.

Overall, this was a solid read for me. I enjoyed it, just wish there was less repetition. I think psychological thriller lovers will enjoy this one. Be sure to check out the trigger warnings before picking this one up. Huge thank you to NetGalley, Brilliance Audio and Mary Burton for the ALC in exchange for my honest review.
This was an OK read. Mary's past few books have been much different from her previous novels. I feel like I might be in the minority but I don't think these recent books are as good as they used to be. The premise of this story was intriguing, enough to make me request the book. I feel the pacing was quite slow for a thriller and the ending fell flat for me. Leaving the Della issue unresolved just left me feeling ambivalent about this book. I won't stop reading Mary but may wait until reviews come in before I request them.
Scarlett is a kidnap/rape survivor. The book begins with her arrest and then leaps back a week earlier
When Sandra is found dead, her body is connected to serial rapist Tanner. This opens up his past crimes and shines a spotlight on Scarlett, his surviving victim
Scarlett was held for 88 days with Della. However, Della was never found and it’s believed that Scarlett fabricated her existence
The whole set up was gripping and addictive. The multiple POV and timelines help the pace whizz by
However, half way through, the pace slowed with sexy time and a lot of repetition. I’d have suggested a good edit of at least 50 pages… we know Scarlett’s obsessed and damaged, but we don’t need to be reminded on every page
I would suggest that there isn’t much of a twist to this booked but more of a reveal that I didn’t guess, but wasn’t surprised at
I think the best thing about this book was the very end. I really respect the author for making the decision that she did and it definitely left me feeling thrilled
Thanks to Netgalley and Brilliance Publishing for access to this audiobook ARC in exchange for my honest review
oh man... this is dark, twisty, and I don't know that I'm fully satisfied by the ending 😆 I feel like this is a great book for those that like crime thrillers and Karin Slaughter!
Another Lost Girl is a riveting, captivating, addictive roller coaster ride of a book. Fans of unreliable damaged narrators will devour this book. The beginning has a slower start, but I promise you, stick to it and you won't be disappointed. Once things start to pick up, the suspense just keeps building and never lets up until the end. The past and present chapter worked for me because I got to dig deeper into the characters and what happened to them!
I have never been steered in so many different directions. I thought I had some stuff figured out, but no, Burton truly spun me around, smacked me in the face and left me with my jaw on the floor more than once. This is definitely a disturbing, evil, conniving, manipulative, twisty and dark thriller, but it was done so well! The plot and the execution were flawless.
There are so many clues scattered around the book, so much suspense to keep you turning those pages and binge this book in one sitting. The ending left me 🤯!
🎧 The narration by Jesse Vilinsky & David De Vries was so good. Jesse absolutely knocked it out of the park. The emotion she put in her performance. I could feel the fear, the tears, every emotion was felt through her voice and it truly made for an amazing listen. David was also very good at portraying the emotions and bringing Dawson to life. Highly recommend this audio!
