I kindly got sent an arc copy of this book by Netgallery and this book didn't disappoint. Sarah and Caleb are childhood sweethearts, when Sarah's mother becomes unwell Caleb doesn't even have to think about stepping up to the role of looking after her and supporting her through life.
When they find themselves going through a rocky patch in their marriage, they go on a wilderness adventure to reignite their spark. I LOVED this book and the characters, the writing style and having flashbacks included throughout.
I am SICK. Actually ILL over how much I loved this book. I will forever be a HBY lover.
I've always been an Out on a Limb girlie, but Out of the Woods might be giving her a run for her money???
I swear I felt so many emotions during this book. One minute I was giggling with my kindle hugged to my chest, the next minute I was sobbing on the floor. Caleb and Sarah just really hit me with all the feelings.
Honestly, this is just one of those books you have to read yourself to understand how freaking phenomenal it is.
Well, Hannah Bonam-Young made me cry again. This book was so raw, I absolutely adored Out on a limb, so getting Sarah and Caleb's story was perfect.
Hannah writes her stories so real, often times in romance books you get the perfect love story with the odd trial and tribulation but I swear these books always make me reflect and feel so deeply.
I'll be honest writing this I am feeling a little raw, Sarah's perception of grief and watching her grow and heal through the things she went through in her late teens was intense.
I loved everything about this and as always I will include a few of my favourite tropes:
-high school sweethearts
-second chance romance
-TAYLOR SWIFT title.
This book was *chefs kiss*, there is just something about Hannah’s writing that just puts me in a chokehold.
I loved getting to know Sarah and Caleb on a deeper level after meeting them in Out on a Limb. I adored their story, it was real - I laughed, I got emotional, I blushed. It was so raw in the most gorgeously wonderful way.
Hannah always writes real topics in a way that hooks you, but also with so much respect and honesty. I felt every moment of this book deep in my chest, Sarah was relatable, her marriage with Caleb and their story stuck with me.
Naturally, I also loved seeing glimpses of Win and Bo again, that alone heals my soul.
Rating: 4 ✨
I think I potentially would have rated this higher had I not been completely in love with Win & Bo’s story which was a 5 star read for me, this one as much as I loved it didn’t quite match up.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bedford Square Publishers for a copy of this ARC.
Absolutely gorgeous romance about rekindling the love having been with someone for so long.
It was deeply moving in parts as the FMC spoke openly about neglecting her own dreams and not feeling like she was proud of any achievements.
I really loved the honesty and openness of the dialogue.
The ending completely had me in a chokehold. I was so worried.
Beautiful book. Hit every emotion.
This was a very sweet book, focusing on a couple who are going through a lot. There were some beautiful conversations surrounding grief and their own healing journey, and some beautiful quotes. It was an easy read, and one I did enjoy; but felt maybe there was a spark missing.
That being said if you enjoy Hannah’s books, I’m sure this is no different!
I am convinced Hannah Bonam-Young can do no wrong, and this book adds to her backlist of incredibly written and wonderfully captivating novels!
This story captures the nuances of a long term relationship, the development between Caleb’s and Sarah’s relationship is wonderful and I love the way the story unravels as a marriage in crisis novel.
The characters are wonderful and Bonam-Young does a great job in showcasing her internal battle with her as a person, having been with the same person for most of her life. I love the strong network the characters have and absolutely adored any and every mention of my favourite characters from Out on A Limb.
This story is magnificent and I highly recommend!
★★★.✫
Out On A Limb was one of my favourite books of last year, so I was truly expecting this to be a new favourite! But it didn’t quite hit the mark for me sadly.
This tells the story of Sarah & Caleb - a married couple going through a (slightly) rocky patch. But I’m not actually sure their marriage was ever in crisis… (I’ve definitely had rockier patches with my husband!), and instead our fmc is just having an existential crisis - and her marriage factors into that. I ended up feeling sorry for Caleb on more than one occasion.
Sarah is a 31 year old woman who doesn’t work, feels like she needs a purpose, and wants her & her husband to move into the “next stage of their life” - but also doesn’t want children. As someone who has always wanted both a career and kids, I found her very difficult to relate to! (Also we never really got an explanation as to why she so resolutely doesn’t want kids, so this didn’t help me understand her.)
There’s a lot of therapy, growth, grief & healing - mostly on Sarah’s part. In fact the first couple of hundred pages do read like an extended therapy session, without much actually happening. As always HBY does these difficult conversations so well, and there were some beautiful anecdotes.
Also after not much happening for 90% of the book we got some last minute drama! Which was fine… but I would have rather the climax of the book to have been focused on their relationship.
Overall a sweet read, with some beautiful messages, but sadly not a new favourite
Loved it reading Sarah and Caleb’s story and reading a romance about couple that already have history and love for one another. I definitely related to Sarah a lot about feeling stuck and wanting to change, she was a really good developed character. Loved it!
Out of the Woods follows Win’s childhood friends and high school sweethearts Sarah and Caleb in a marriage in crisis, an outdoor wilderness story about growing together and finding your way back to each other wherever you are.
Caleb and Sarah started dating at fourteen and for the past seventeen years have been standing by each other sides, through life’s ups and downs, through their losses, achievements and everything in between, but lately, Sarah has been wondering who she is.
Having battled through loss, grief and depression Sarah has finally started coming out of survival mode and wants to start to live again, only she doesn’t know who she is anymore, nor does she want to be stuck in the same role in her marriage that she has been. But when these new thoughts swirl, new dreams emerge, and old grievances surface can Caleb and Sarah hold onto a marriage that started when they were only nineteen?
Desperate to keep the love of her life, Sarah signs herself and Caleb up for a couple’s outdoor survival trip; a hiking and camping experience designed to help couples work through their problems and bring them closer together.
Marriage in Crisis romances hit me hardest, they burrow right into the softest part of my heart and make me ache and Out of The Woods was no exception. Seeing Sarah and Caleb struggling in their marriage filled me with tension, and as they embarked on the couple retreat and things didn’t seem to be looking up, I was so worried that the happily ever after I was looking for wasn’t going to happen. But it did, and there was a gorgeous, heartfelt journey that led to it. Sarah and Caleb started seeing each other again and dreaming about what they wanted their future to look like.
This book was a beautiful story, probably because Hannah Bonham-Young can’t seem to write anything that isn’t gold, and I’m so thankful for getting an advanced copy. If you haven’t already, request this book or go pre-order, you won’t want to miss this one.
Hannah has done it again and Out of the Woods hit hard. I had to take a few days after finishing it to process my thoughts and recover. I feel that most of us can relate to a lot within the book and have experienced the same feelings at some point in our lives. This makes the book so much more powerful to read as you can see yourself in Sarah and you feel like you are on the journey with her.
I loved that this book is interlinked with Out on a Limb and we get to be reunited with Win, Bo and Gus. It was nice to see where they are at as this book is after Out on a Limb and also we get more backstory on Win.
We follow current day and past timelines from when Sarah was a teenager going into adulthood.
I don’t want to say anything that may spoil the book for others but if you loved Out on a Limb and loved Hannah’s other books, this book will not disappoint. I have already preordered a physical copy
This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year and it did not disappoint. There’s something about Hannah’s writing that makes you feel so deeply connected to the characters and storylines, and she does a really great job of building up intrigue in previous books to make you SO excited for when the next book is released.
I fell in love with Sarah and Caleb when we met them in Out on a Limb and was really interested to see how Hannah was going to write their story as they really do seem happily married in that book. I absolutely devoured their story and loved to learn about their hardships and insecurities that in the end, brought them closer together.
There were so many emotional moments and yes, I did cry (multiple times!!). This was honestly a masterpiece and can’t help but see how perfect Sarah and Caleb are for each other. I loved the couples therapy retreat and thought that it was such a perfect way to bring the two MCs back together. I want to read this book over and over again ❤️
There is not a single thing that Hannah Bonam-Young could write that I would not race to read and I screamed when I got approved for an eArc of Out of the Woods! One thing I always know going in to one of Hannah's books is that at some point in the book I will smile, laugh and most likely sob my eyes out and yep! You guessed it, this one was no different!
Sarah and Caleb were a joy to read about and made me sob multiple times whilst reading their story. I was also really happy to be able to see Win and Bo pop up throughout the book as Out on a Limb is one of my all time favourite books! If you love to read about real authentic people in love then this book and every other book Hannah has written will be perfect for you!
One of my favourite settings for books is in the middle of the woods, whether some of the book takes place on a hike, they go camping or even when they get lost in the woods! It will always be one of my favourite things included in books and this particular take on it made me so happy. Getting to watch Sarah and Caleb find their way back to each other and them finding themselves again was amazing but getting to see it with the setting of camping just made it ten times better!
Hannah has yet again managed to perfectly capture love in all of its forms in this book, whether it is Sarah and Caleb, Win and Sarah, Bo and Caleb, Gus and everyone (because who doesn't love Gus), you get to see so many kinds of love in this story and it constantly made my heart all warm and fuzzy.
Thank you so much to Negalley, Bedford Square Publishers and Hannah Bonam-Young for the opportunity to read this early!
"If you give me the space to grow, I will plant myself next to you."
There's just something about a romance story that makes you want to cry.
I loved this and I completely devoured it within a day. The characters, the development, the story arc just all worked together so well to create a moving piece that will touch on different issues that people will be able to relate to.
I want express how much I loved and adored this story, whilst still allowing everyone to experience it for themselves! I loved the relationship between Sarah and Caleb, all of their moments together brought forth so many different emotions and you couldn't helped but be sucked into the story. The chemistry between them was great but the love that they held for each other and how that was written was truly the highlight of this book.
The journey and emotions of Sarah were just... so perfectly relatable? I loved that as a reader you saw all the turmoil and the worry, and how it is dealt with or how it can overwhelm. The writing is so great at creating this flow between building up these emotions, keeping the readers there, whilst giving moments of light-heartedness. I also enjoyed seeing certain characters return whilst enjoying the new characters and the chemistry they brought within the scenes too!
Thank you to Bedford Square Publishers for this eARC, I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I have really mixed feelings about this book. I liked it a lot, what I love about Hannah Bonam-Young books is that she always writes and explores non-typical relationships. This book is a marriage in trouble, Sarah and Caleb don't really know a life outside of being with each other and maybe they aren't as happy as they seem.
I loved the exploration of this internal miscommunication with each other. I think I found a but frustrating how they themselves didn't understand why they were feeling the way they were feeling while as a reader I understood them. But the story and the relationship evolves in such a beautiful way that pulls at your heartstrings.
Tiktok and instagram posts to come.
I’m beyond grateful to Dell Romance and NetGalley for giving me the chance to read and review this one 🙏. Having already grown attached to Sarah and Caleb in Out on a Limb, I was excited but a bit anxious heading into this book. I wasn’t sure how things would unfold for them, but I had complete faith that Hannah would deliver exactly what the story needed. From the very beginning, I knew this would be an emotional journey—and I was right. That’s what I’ve come to expect from Hannah’s writing, and I mean that in the best way possible.
Hannah has a gift for crafting complex, deeply relatable characters. The emotions she weaves into her stories make me feel like I truly know these people, which is probably why I get so attached to them. I loved the relationships in this book, from the friendships to the family dynamics, and appreciated how realistically they were portrayed. The flashback scenes were a great touch, giving us insight into how the characters' pasts shaped their present.
This book struck the perfect balance of romance, humor (the kind I loved from Out on a Limb), and heartache (with perhaps more than a few tears on my end). It’s definitely a story I’ll be recommending to everyone. I’m already looking forward to a reread and can’t wait for others to experience it too!
