Thanks to Kristen Bailey, Storm Publishing, and NetGalley for the ARC; my opinion is my own.
Maggie is the manager of the underappreciated IT department for a London company. When she’s faced with her first Christmas alone, her three employees organize her holiday time to be rotated between them: she attends a wedding as Frank’s plus-one, visits Jasper’s family’s elaborate estate, and visits Leo’s close-knit rural family for the holiday itself. Just before the holiday, HR tells her she has to choose one of the three to be let go in the New Year.
I think plenty of people would like this book for the sweet characters, funny set pieces, and wholesome seasonal set dressing, but it wasn’t for me. It was a real slog to get it finished in time to post my review.
Partly that’s because I can’t get into romances with a power differential. But I also felt like there were a lot of cliched characters (the cute moppets, the best friend who is an overwhelmed but wealthy mum, the earthy unfiltered granny). There were plot elements that were dropped in but not particularly authentic or connected. There were many passages where Maggie muses in a banal way values (the importance of family, etc) that felt flat and uninteresting.
This is the first book that I have read by Kristen Bailey and I sincerely hope that it won't be the last, it has so much"feel good" factor, it made me laugh out loud and by the end I was an emotional wreck.
Four people work in the IT department of a financial assets company and four more diverse people you couldn't imagine but they gel together so well. Maggie is the team leader but the bottom line is that they are all really good friends, Frank is brilliant but naive and insecure, he comes from an Asian family with a very controlling mother, Jasper comes from a dysfunctional wealthy family, private school educated but the wealth doesn't stop this kind hearted man from also being the grump in the team, Leo is the Northern lad, considerate, kind, with more than a passing crush on Maggie.Christmas party time approaches and as usual the invitation for the IT department to attend the company Christmas dinner doesn't arrive, the people in the dingy basement office are once again forgotten. Maggie does her best to compensate the team by arranging a Mexican Christmas party in November with hilarious consequences.
Maggie's parents are spending Christmas on a cruise and as Maggie didn't want to be the only one under sixty she opted to spend Christmas alone with the TV, wine and junk food. Unbeknown to Maggie, the team arranged for her to spend a few days with each of their families in turn, days filled with much love and laughter but Maggie has a secret that she is keeping from them, a secret that is causing her heart to break, a secret that will effect all of their lives........will Leo ever look at her the same again.
I loved this book from the very first page, the author has created such wonderful characters. Thank you Storm Publishing for this ARC, my review is voluntary.
IT Crowd meets Hallmark Christmas movie. The mashup I never knew I needed! A+ writing and perfect holiday vibes. Did reading this in early October make me want to skip spooky season all together? You betcha! The perfect comfort read to get you in the Christmas spirit. So pop on some Bublé and put on your Christmas PJs because this book is perfection. There was so much slow burn for spice but it stays devastatingly closed-door.
Maggie and the boys are hilarious! I laughed so much I alarmed some of my customers at work. Our three kings are quirky, unique geeks with hearts of gold. You fall in love with each of them so easily and it breaks your heart that Maggie is forced to choose between them. The found family is as heartwarming as the Christmas season. I’ve never wanted to go back to England so badly! It makes me so nostalgic for the UK at Christmas time. I would 100% recommend this book and will be buying a physical copy ASAP to add to my shelves.
Cons: Would have loved a bit more romance at the end to fulfill the immensely powerful slow burn.
Can we all have 3 male friends like these please. Or colleagues. They all pull together when they hear Maggie is going to be alone for the holidays. Spending a few days with eqch, she gets to know these quirky but genuine men.
This was a delightful read. And i think it take a special author to do chic lit and or romance well. Where you dont do to over the top, faffy or clichéd. So it sounds proper and genuine. Well, this author smashes it. And I could feel the talent coming off the pages. Loved it.
Maggie spends part of the Christmas period with each of the 3 men in her IT team. A wonderful, funny story of friendship and love. Ideal reading on a cold ,wet day.
I really enjoyed this book. It had a wonderful festive feel and had elements of Bridget Jones to it. Maggie was a fun character to read as were the rest of the characters.
This is a perfect, cosy, fun festive read that will have you laughing and smiling whilst reading, perfect for an autumn weekend.
This was delightful!
I initially assumed, based on the cover and title, that this would be a "why choose" story, but it is not. In fact, the main character, Maggie, is forced to make a very important (work related) decision.
This story was ultimately about found family and friendship. The romance plot was slow burn, with just the right amount of tension, pining and swooning sprinkled throughout. I laughed out loud many times and I even teared up a few times as well. I loved this very, geeky friend group so much!
The holiday vibes were very strong and it definitely got me into the Christmas spirit!

3⭐️ Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for an advanced copy of We Three Kings.
Maggie works in IT with her three employees Leo, Jasper, and Frank. When they find out she will be alone for Christmas they all invite her to different events with their families. She gets to know each man on a deeper level and begins to fall for Leo. But when she finds out she needs to fire one of them she is devastated because not only are they her employees they are her friends.
This was a cute book and with a story line that was very unique. I loved the friendship the four of them had and how they were always there for one another. Very cute Christmas read!
I have laughed until I cried so many times reading this book. One of the first scenes in the book after a night out on the town set the scene for even more hilarity. Leo, Jasper, Frank and Maggie are the IT guys/gal for their company confined in the basement of the building with no windows. But instead of complaining bout their working conditions, these four have bonded and learned how to make everything fun.
The witty banter, pushy relatives, ensuing romance and everything Christmas make this a great read to put you in the mood for all things Christmas. It was utterly delightful, festive and so hilarious that you cannot help but laugh out loud. The characters and their relationship with one another made this book even more engaging. I am still smiling.
Thank you to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was my first ever book by Kristen Bailey, but it will NOT be my last! Her writing is amazing! And this story was absolutely *chef's kiss*. The characters are so in depth, and so well written. I was immediately pulled into their world, and I laughed and cried with all of the Kings as we are taken through this fabulous Christmas.
I connected with Maggie immediately, and recognised a lot of myself in her. I loved the way she cared for her team, and made them family. My heart broke with hers when she was given the assignment right before Christmas, and I was right there with her on the rollercoaster ride of her christmas week. I loved how she was able to help Frank and Jasper grow more into themselves, and open up even more to her. I loved her big heart, and the way she connected so well and so quickly with all of the various people she met. I loved how she stood up for her team, and stuck it to the man. And I loved how Leo looked after her too.
A really amazing book that I'll definitely be re-reading multiple times in the future. And I'm really looking forward to reading a lot more of Kristen Bailey's work.
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a cute, wholesome Christmas romance. We follow Maggie as she spends Christmas with her three I.T. co-workers, going home with each of their families to avoid spending the holidays alone.
This is perfect for getting into the holiday spirit as it is just a cozy fun time. I really enjoyed reading about Maggie and Leo. At the start, we get thrown into the action, so it takes a moment to learn about the characters and to figure out what exactly is happening, but you are good to go after chapter 1.
I enjoyed how I got to know the three guys as Maggie moved from house to house. It really allowed me to become attached to the characters and invested in the decision coming at the end.
It reminded me a lot of the show 'The IT Crowd', which I loved, so I recommend it for those fans.
Thank you to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review.
We Three Kings by Kristen Bailey
Rating: 4.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Thank you to Storm Publishing, Netgalley, and Kristen Bailey for access to this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This was my first Kristen Bailey read and I can’t wait to delve in deeper into her writing! What a wonderfully written, heartfelt story filled with Christmas joy and love!
Maggie works in IT and when her colleagues find out she is going to be alone for Christmas, they make a plan to ensure she isn’t alone by spending a couple of days with each of them and their families. As they’re getting ready for their holiday break, Maggie (who’s Leo, Jasper, and Frank’s supervisor) gets told she needs to fire one of them in the new year. As she spends the holidays with them, the decision is made more difficult because she learns more about them all.
Overall, this is a festive and fun holiday rom com! A lighthearted read filled with laughter, banter, awesome dialogue, and a little bit of spice. Excellent character development and such a sweet romance filled with amazing holiday vibes!
This was a really good read, I wish they were my friends, I would never leave their sides, this is the story of Maggie and her friends not wanting her to be alone at Christmas, it takes her on a few adventures with a few twists and turns along the way, some i guessed and some I didn't. the characters were very well written and very likable and nothing was drawn out, the only thing that was a bit distracting was when people were "thinking" it wasn't made clear and I thought they were speaking and had to go back and check for speech marks, but that could just be me.
Grab an hot chocolate and enjoy!
First of all, a big thank you to Kristen Bailey and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this arc.
3 stars :)
Normally, I would consider this an easy and quick read, but while I was trying to read this, I fell into a book slump. When I have arcs though, I try to review them at least a few days before they're released so I don't have to do them last minute, so I had to drag myself through it.
Also, tell me why I thought this was a why choose?
It was probably because of the title, but genuinely what?
I found we didn't get a lot of Leo and I would have loved to, but I think it was meant to be closed-door, so there wasn't as much description. I also believe there could've been more about her after her resigning, but I thought it was a good (mild) plot twist anyways, and felt really sweet.
I don't really know, this book just felt like it was slowing down at some points, which also bored me.
I found there wasn't much character development either, and my opinion of her stayed the same throughout.
Overall, I did like this book and thank you again :)
Maggie, an IT-manager who supervises a small team and loves every member. When it's clear she'll be spending Christmas alone, Frank, Jasper and Leo come up with a plan so she can spend Christmas with each one of them. Though there is a secret that Maggie is keeping from them that could ruin their friendship.
I love how the characters were described, they really came to life on page. The author did an amazing job!
Such a Christmassy and cozy rom-com, perfect to get into the holiday spirit. Although the slow burn was a bit too slow for me, I still enjoyed it!
Thanks to Netgalley and Storm publishing for giving me the chance to read this Arc
We Three Kings⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Maggie is looking forwards to spending her Christmas holiday alone, that is until her three work mates decide to mix things up for her. When they found out she will be alone, each one invited her to spend part of the holiday with them. She’s excited and can’t wait to get to know each of them better but before her holiday starts, her boss brings her into her office and tells her she’s going to have to let one of them go. Now Maggie must decide which one of her work buddies that will be. Frank loves his job, Jasper’s sarcastic humor makes the workplace and Leo… well Leo is smart, professional and good looking. Can Maggie find a way to keep her work family together and maybe even find true love under the mistletoe?
This was such a cute Christmas romcom! I loved the journey Maggie went on spending time with each coworker. There were many laugh out loud moments with the witty banter between her and the coworkers. I also liked the slow burn romance between Maggie and Leo. Overall, the book was such a fun, lighthearted, easy read and perfect for the holiday season.
This book will publish October 14, 2024. Thank you to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for my advanced readers copy. This is my honest and voluntary opinion.
Maggie works in the basement office with her three coworkers, they all enjoy working together and are all friends, however she is told just before Christmas that one of the team has to be made redundant. She spends part of Christmas with each of them with this secret burning away inside of her.
In my mind's eye I could see the IT Crowd, but this story is much more than that. Having been involved in redundancies on more than one occasion, albeit on the receiving end, I know how stressful it can be. I really felt for Maggie having to make that decision. What really made the story though was the rest of her team and the situations that she became involved in whilst spending time with each of them. This really lightened the mood with episodes including bridesmaids, fox cubs and even a donkey. A really enjoyable Christmas romcom to get you into the mood for Christmas, or any other time of the year.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.
This is a charming Christmas story of the true light of a true friend and how one might strive to be in everyone's lives. It is about three young men working in the basement for The Wiseman Brothers in the IT department. They a group of nerdy young men that really have no direction in life until Maggie walks into their lives. Maggie has been hired as a manager for the IT department. She not only wraps each one of these young men up in her life, but she becomes a friend and that is something much more than any of them could have ever expected.
There is Frank, Jasper and Leo. They all are very smart and all have different levels of intelligence. Each one of them are completely different in their personalities. They have decided to invite Maggie to each one of their Christmas' as she will be spending hers all by herself.
The first Christmas will be with Frank and his family as his sister will be getting married and Maggie will be his plus one. Frank has told his family that she is his girlfriend. She had no idea that he had done that but she ran with it.
The second Christmas is spent with Jasper. She is spending it at his families home. It's quite busy and filled with children and chaos! There are surprises that I don't want to spoil!
The third and final Christmas was spent with Leo.. Part of their Christmas is spent with Maggie's best friend Gemma and her children. Then they go on to Leo's family home.
After the New Year and before they go back to work Maggie gathers the three kings together so she can tell all of them what she was told right before the holidays. She was brought in by the HR rep Jan and told that she needs to make a decision of who to let go in the IT department as everyone is cutting one person from their department. Maggie is told she will have until January 2 to decide.
She gathers them together and tells them about what she has been told and they all talk about it. She makes a decision but doesn't tell them until they are at the meeting the next day.
This was a very sweet cute book ! Thank you for the Christmas book Kristen Bailey!
Happy Reading!!
I loved every character in this novel. It was so easy to see how the co-workers quickly became friends to family that the female main character could lean on and love even in the hardest moments. Frank, Leo, and Jasper were the co-workers that I wished we all had and they each brought a different version of the "tech guy" that we think of which was unique. I loved reading this novel and will definitely find it at my local bookstore once publication day arrives. Thank you for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This is such a sweet holiday romance. I loved the characters and the story is really engaging and thoughtful.
Highly recommend for getting into the holiday spirit!
