What do you think could happen when you let an unknown cleaner into your house? In this case more than you could ever imagine!
I really enjoyed this book. It was fast paced, well written, clever and oh so twisty!
The author was expert at winding up the tension then releasing it just a little before winding it up again. The plot was clever and different. When I first started reading this book I wasn’t sure about the going forwards and backwards in time. However, it was perfectly done!

It’s wonderfully emotional in all the right places.

I would throughly recommend this book.

Many thanks to Netgalley and the author for allowing me to read and review this joy of a book.

‘The cleaner’ is a domestic thriller that I couldn’t put down!
A Fast paced and enthralling read, Esmie is after justice for Nico, who returns home after losing his university funding and everything he’d worked for.
This was a really fun and atmospheric read with lots of plotting and scheming, twists and turns.
A well written debut adult novel from Mary Watson. If you enjoy the likes of Nita Prose or Alice Feeney I’d highly recommend this book!

I loved reading this book about Esme who poses as a cleaner with 3 households who might have a connection to the death of her brother. A great psychological thriller and one I would recommend be read.

A slow paced book that I still had to finish as I wanted to know what finally happened. A bit repetitive at times and sometimes stretched but I still needed to know what happened.

This is a very good psychological thriller that came with enough twists to keep my guessing throughout. My first book by this author but it definitely won’t be the last.

Fixated on finding out what happened to her beloved brother Nico, Esmie orchestrates a minor accident designed to put her at the heart of three households. Once across the threshold she markets herself as a cleaner in order to get within the inner sanctum allowing her to dig deeper into their lives.

The social commentary that cleaners are both invisible and somehow privy to the most personal moments of their employers lives was intriguing - Esmie is drawn into all manner of private issues and I guess the reality is that house cleaners probably are, especially if English isn't their native language.

This was a bit of a slow burn for me and while the premise was interesting it didn't fully hold my attention at times - overall though it is a good little thriller with a clever twist.

This book had me hooked from the very first page! So many twists and turns. And the tension is kept up right to the very end. And what an end!

A young woman arrives in Ireland seeking answers and revenge. A pacy plot with a good twist but repetitive writing, wooden characters and a lack to tension. Not one for me.

What a fabulous book. Full of twists and turns. Very well written. It follows the story of Ezmie who arrives in Ireland to follow her brother's story and to avenge him. Set in a woodland and follows the lives of three families, where Ezmie is a cleaner. Kept me hooked from the start. Highly recommended.

I was lucky enough to receive this as an advanced free copy and leave this review willingly.

I was excited to read this but I felt it was too slow paced for me & the chapters felt never ending. It wasn’t my most favourite but it still had a decent storyline to it if this is your kind of book. Thanks NetGalley for the arc

Many thanks to netgalley, the author and the publisher for approving my request to read this book.

The Cleaner is a tightly woven, tense psychological thriller that kept me frantically turning the pages. The story centres around Esmie who is cleaning for various people in an exclusive area in Ireland. Each of these people holds their own secrets and Esmie soon uncovers them as she tries desperately to find the truth to an event in her own life.

I really enjoyed how the story unfolded and loved the characters throughout-I'll definitely be recommending this book and look forward to more from the author.

A complex intricate plot that spans dual timelines, brimming with tension and unease I found this hard to put down, it's best to go in blind and enjoy the rollercoaster

I'm sure that this will be popular with its big twist and promising story line but it didn't deliver for me. Wooden characters, very unbelievable events, not great.

A slow burner that got under my skin . By the second half of the book I was hooked . It’s tense and twisty and the ending was just fantastic

Esmie disguises herself as a cleaner to find out the details about Nico’s murder.
Slowly and gradually we get to a quite interesting twist.
This was a 3-star read for me; if you like a slower thriller and value twists, this may be more enjoyable for you.
While the twist(s) were enjoyable, they were not utterly unpredictable if you are a seasoned reader. But a big twist is not a must for me.
I enjoyed the prose the most. Esmie’s voice was interesting.
If this were 30% shorter, and less stretched, hence less repetitive, I would have enjoyed this a bit more.
3 for me, 4 for those who like the above.

Esmie has arrived in Ireland to find out more about what really happened to her brother Nico who is currently at home in a coma. She inveigles herself as a cleaner for three houses who are related in one way or another by orchestrating an accident. Once in the houses she watches the occupants and finds a few things which may or may not relate to Nico. She hides her relationship to him from all of the occupants and does her best to make herself indispensable so that she can watch even more of the happenings.

This is a cleverly written and very well thought out book. Im smiling writing this as there’s a certain something between the pages that kept me turning without really knowing why if that makes sense? A spellbinding quality about it and perhaps unease of someone being deceptive and creeping around, investigating drawers and laptops and more in a world where she is almost invisible being “ just” the cleaner. I understand that this is a debut adult book from the author- wow! What a beginning! Outstanding, dark, clever. A very solid 4*

A slow burner for me. It definitely took me a while to get into the storyline. It picked up nearer the end. A good twist that I hadn't seen coming but it had taken so long to pique my interest.

Thanks to net galley for an advanced copy of this book.

The cleaner, a quiet in the shadows figure. Able to move around and not be seen!

The first 85% of this book plodded along and then the twist! I didn’t see it coming, but so much made sense at that point!
