Review for 'The Village Christmas Party' by Sue Roberts.
Awww yet another absolutely fantastically gorgeous book by the extremely talented Sue, Well done Sue!!!!
This book is beautifully written and completely absorbs you in the stunning atmosphere of the beautiful Lake District and really sucks you in with the vivid descriptions leaving you seeing the stunning scenery and feeling the festivities. The synopsis and cover suits the storyline perfectly.
Well, you may have noticed I have started reading festive books regular and very early considering it is only October but it doesn't matter if you are the type who doesn't want to hear the word Christmas until the day or whether you have already started thinking about getting the decorations down because regardless of how you feel about Christmas you will enjoy this adorable story! I have absolutely loved each and every one of the amazing Sue's books that I have read so far and this one is no exception!!! How she does it time and time again I will never know but I am just over the moon that she does as every time I need a feel good book to turn a frown upside down Sue Roberts is my go to woman!! Honestly if you are ever in need of a break and fancy the gorgeous Lake District then grab this absolute stunner and prepare to be whisked away on a beautiful holiday!!! I have not been to the Lake District for many, many years and have always wanted to go back there well this is definitely the next best thing as Sue's beautiful and evocative descriptions transported me into the middle of the village of Fellview in the Lake District at the turn of a page!! The storyline is authentic and realistic as well as easy to read and heart-warming. There was plenty of events going on throughout and it kept me hooked from start to end, I read it in one sitting while mainly wrapped up in a fleece with a cup of tea while Lauren was trying to organise the Christmas party. I attempted to put it down once but my mind kept being dragged back to the storyline so i just had to pick it up again and regardless of how many times I told myself just one more chapter I knew I was lying to myself and ended up devouring it in one sitting while smelling the mulled wine and listening to the Christmas Carols. In this beautiful book we meet 34 year old Lauren who sounds very much like me if I am honest which is probably why I clicked with her immediately. Lauren needs to write a list for everything (I have literally just written a list of what to pack to go away for a weekend!!) and when it comes to Christmas a list is a mega must!! She is extremely organised and would rather get things ticked off her list than go out to socialise. Lauren's last relationship ended badly so she has no interest in romance. However, when she is at work and a man brings his little girl into the store to buy a present for the little girls mother Lauren spots him straight away!! Lauren then sees him again at the Gingerbread House competition and yet again when he soaks her as she is walking down the straight!! There are better ways to get someone's attention but this does lead to him offering Lauren a lift home. It turns out that his name is Kian and he is divorced and looking after their daughter Bella over the holidays. However, with Lauren's Dad having to undergo heart surgery as well as having to plan the pensioner's Christmas Party at the Village Community Hall Lauren doesn't have time to think about romance. However, on the day of the Christmas Party Kian turns up but not to attend the party, it turns out that he also booked the hall for Bella's birthday party!!! Will the Christmas Party go ahead or has all Lauren's planning gone down the drain? Will Lauren ever find time for herself? Grab your copy of this stunning festive feel good book to find out the answers to these and much more!! I promise that you will not regret it and you can thank me later!!! With a storyline ram packed with friendship, romance, Christmas, a cat, mince pies, new beginnings, loneliness, party's, drama, lists, fun and everything plus more that you could ask for what are you waiting for? It felt like a lovely break away from Wales!! I loved how the story ended and I would love to read more about the life in this gorgeous Lake District village. I was absolutely devastated when I came to the end of this book as I was truly whisked away to the Lake District feeling the festivities and looking at the stunning views. I absolutely loved the gorgeous atmosphere and the warm embrace of everyone in the community. Another truly stunning page turner from this extremely talented author that I would love to see turned into a movie!!
Clear your schedules, get wrapped up warm and prepared to be whisked to the Lake District and into Christmas with Sue's stunning page turner!
The characters were all unique with their own realistic traits, strengths and weaknesses. Sue really brought them to life with her emotive and evocative descriptions and it truly felt like I could reach out and touch them. I absolutely LOVED Lauren and was rooting for her from the very moment I seen her. the fact that she is list obsessed like myself made me laugh but at the same time she always seems to put others first instead of herself. She is constantly trying to help people, has so much empathy and such a kind and generous heart. We definitely need more people like Lauren in our lives!! Lauren's friends and family are so important to her and she likes to help where and whenever she can but also gets extremely stressed when plans go wrong (ditto!). Then we meet Kian who is the complete opposite of Lauren!! They are literally on opposite ends of the scale when it comes to organisation and where she is stressing he was so laid back he may as well been walking around horizontally!!! he is such an amazing father to sweet Bella though who I also adored. It wasn't just the main characters of Lauren, Kian and Bella who I fell in love with though but so many others including, but definitely not limited to, Lauren's Mum, Dad and his partner Rose, friend and colleague Gemma, Lauren's neighbours Jo and her husband Martin, her other neighbour Eileen, Sue who volunteers at the centre, the baker Jo and I have to mention Lauren's cheeky cat called Tony (named after Tony The Tiger)!! I am a huge animal lover and run Golden Oldies Cat rescue And Hospice (you can find me on social media) so any animals in books are a definite bonus for me especially cats and Tango with his catitude is adorable in his own way so definitely bonus points deserved!! I absolutely loved watching all the friendships, relationships and dynamics change throughout this stunning storyline especially seeing new friendships and relationships beginning. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting new people at the community centre and well, just everybody to be honest!!! Sue's amazing evocative writing skills brought them to life as much as possible and they all leapt out of the pages as well as the stunning atmosphere and the rest of the characters!!! Anyway, I best not say anymore as don't want to give anything else away for future readers!! It's just so easy talking about this fantastic book and so much I want to tell you all about but I really need to control myself!!! Needless to say I absolutely adored each and every character each for a different reason. All characters worked perfectly with the storyline and I would love to meet them again and see this book turned into a whole new series!!!
Well done Sue on another absolutely gorgeous book!!! I will definitely be looking for your books any time I need to be swept off to another country!!! This is exactly why when I am looking for a romance your books are what I look for and your one of my favourite authors.
Overall an absolutely perfect light hearted, festive, stunning unputdownable romance that will sweep you off your feet and land you in the Lake District and. .

If you’re looking for a comfortable holiday read about a delightful main character and just a nice sweet story, this is it.
Lauren is a totally nice and decent person who hasn’t yet found her forever. She’s very giving and organized.
I liked all of her lists because I like to make lists too.
I loved how hot shop guy was checking Lauren out and was ready to make a move.
Lauren has really good friends, is good at her job and is happy with life.
Life needs more Laurens!
The Village Christmas Party by Sue Roberts.
This was a good read. I loved the cover. I did find it slow to start off with but once I got into it I did enjoy this book. I liked the characters Lauren, Gemma, Sue, Eileen, Audrey, Jo, Martin, June, Rose, and Kian. I did like how Martin and June helped Lauren. Tony the cat was a hero too. This was a lovely feel good read. Quick and easy to read. I would recommend this book
Now, I do not read a great deal of romance but when I do I just love a good festive tale with a sprinkling of romance and lots of good will and cosy atmosphere. The Village Christmas Party was a good, easy read that helped lift the sadness that I was feeling as I said goodbye to summer and began pulling the warmer clothes out of my closet. This book is brimming with good will and love. Of course there is the girl meets boy element but also it hit on the other love that we have in our lives (if we are lucky) such as family, friends and community. Lauren is a likeable character and I enjoyed spending time with her. It is a very sweet story and pure escapism. I only wished I was as organised as Lauren…

The village Christmas party by @suerobertsauthor .
Thank you so much @bookouture @suerobertsauthor for allowing me to be part of this fantastic and magical tour.
Book overview
The smell of mulled wine fills the air as the villagers listen to carollers singing. Everyone in town is ready for the big day. But Lauren only has hours to get the community Christmas party back on track…
Thirty-four-year-old Lauren has a list for everything, especially Christmas. With her presents bought months in advance, the last thing on her checklist is the charity party she runs every year. It has to be perfect – she has seen how much the event means to the older villagers who would be alone for the holidays otherwise.
Everything is going smoothly as the local church bells ring. Until handsome Kian walks in, claiming he has the little village hall booked for his young daughter’s birthday party. Lauren nearly falls off the ladder she is using to hang fairy lights. There’s no way this is happening. Not when she’d triple-checked every detail…
As Lauren frantically tries to find another option, Kian’s insistence that she should just “relax” isn’t helping her stay merry and bright. There’s only one way to make this a festive party to remember. She has to try and work with Kian.
They clash over every detail, but as their helpers arrive, Kian’s kind and welcoming nature soothes Lauren’s shaken nerves. And his gorgeous blue eyes make her wish she’d put the mistletoe out. Until Kian mysteriously disappears…
This is the book that my soul needed , I know earlier than what I would read a Christmas book. I am so glad I took the opportunity to read this , it is was so festive magical with a bit of romance thrown in. There was so many times I had to stop reading just to laugh which I adore in a book.
I adored Lauren’s and the romance between her and KIan.
I am not one for re-reading books , but certainly I will be reading this again in December when it’s cold and frosty outside .
If you love a cosy , romantic festive story you have to add this to your TBR as you will not be disappointed.
A true delight to read. I could use a real pick me up to beat the seasonal blahs right about now and have found it in the festive The Village Christmas Party.
This Hallmark type read will have you snuggling on your couch with your cat sipping your tea soaking in the goodness. Full of feel-good vibes, this had me laughing out loud at the comedic moments. Seeing the comraderies the characters share is always welcome to read about.
I enjoyed seeing the Community come together with the generous spirit of its members.
Christmas cheer that's fun and uplifting.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book.
All opinions expressed are my own.
I love Christmas and I love Christmas themed books even more. Lauren is the same and I enjoyed how much I recognised myself in her. She is all about organisation and routine. When a man walks in and says he has the hall booked for his daughters birthday party but he can't can he? Because it is where the retirement Christmas party is held! Brimming with love romance and festive cheer!
I love good Christmas stories, but this jumped around way too much. Stopped reading a third of the way in.
What a cute read! Reminds me of a Hallmark movie!
I loved this as my first Christmas read. There was so many emotions all in one book but nothing beats christmas joy!
For me this was such a perfect holiday read, I found it easy to read and really rooted for the characters, I loved the setting as it made it feel more homely and seasonal to me.
Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
This was a lovely story, set in a town in the Lake District.
Lauren works in a posh department store. As well as this, she volunteers at the local community centre with other people to help those on their own, whether they are young or old.
The story showed that even speaking to someone kindly or doing something to help them can make their day.
The volunteers plan the pensioners Christmas party. But on the day, things don’t go to plan. Making Lauren realise that no matter how much she’s planned and organised everything, something will still go wrong.
I recommend this book.
I want to thank Net Galley for my ARC!
The Village Christmas party reminded me of a Hallmark movie. It has put me in a Christmas mood even though it's October. I've never read a book by the author and I felt like some chapters were just drawn out. It took me awhile to finally get into the story. The story line is cute. The main character Lauren has a Christmas dinner every year at the same place and the guy she has been seeing aot through town (Kian) has booked his daughters birthday party. This does allow them to get closer and the book started getting better.
I devoured this book, I just loved everything about it. It covers love, loss, loneliness, friendship and of course Christmas joy.
I wish I could go back into this book and read it again without knowing what happens. Huge 5 stars from me 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I just loved this book as it was so heartwarming and Christmassy and it was a wonderful story with amazing characters. I just wish I could live there too.
I would highly recommend reading this book if you like a Christmas book with a good story and that is heartwarming as well with amazing characters.
I would like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book early.
Not sure the title fits the story and for that reason I felt a little disappointed that it wasn't what I was expecting. It's not a bad book but it was a bit underwhelming.
The Village Christmas Party is a comfortable and cozy slice of life book to read rugged up on the couch. This is perfect for Hallmark Christmas movie lovers or those wanting to get into the holiday spirit.
It is short, slow, and simple, centring around community and generosity. The romance plot line kicks off around the halfway point, so you spend a lot of time getting to know Lauren.
In my view, a lot of the dialogue could have been cut in the drafting process, but I guess it lends itself to the overall experience of this novel.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
This author can always be relied upon to start off the Christmas cheer with their festive themed reads. This was another fun filled, uplifting and entertaining read with a great community and heartwarming feel. Would be perfect to read on a winters eve while curled up with a mug of something warm and cosy.
A very enjoyable well written story . A warming tale centred around a small town in the Lake District and the kind hearted Lauren and the local community she volunteers to help those who are lonely or give help to those from young to very old.in her spare time when she’s not working in the upmarket department store in town . This is a tale of small town quirky characters showing even a kind word or gesture can improve someones day. The setting is beautiful centred round the pensioners village Christmas lunch run by volunteers. It’s show no matter how well organised things can and do go wrong and in life things are not always as they appear to be. A wonderful winter read to curl up on the sofa with hot chocolate to enjoy ultimately feel good read. 4.5:/5
This is an amazing book, just buy it, and sit back and enjoy the ride. A massive five shiny stars from me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I received a free copy of, The Village Christmas Party, by Sue Roberts, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Lauren runs a holiday party every Christmas, but this year is not plans are not running as smoothly as previous years, when she finds she did not book the hall, and their is another event going on. This was a sweet holiday read, a little slow to start though.
