Gloriously satirical and awfully good fun.

Definitely not for your kids! But you'll guffaw yourself senseless at the terribly upper class shenanigans of little Shalotte, Rupert and Genevievette and their family's posh and privileged lives.

Very entertaining fare, totally bonkers and outrageous adventures, with poor Nannies 1, 2 and 3 at the mercy of their employers. Parents having affairs and knocking back the pills. Children disgusted by poor people and 'estates' and state schools.

The sort of 'adult Ladybird Book' you'd enjoy in a stocking. I would keep it away from children.

Short audio read, read with gusto and just a slight undercurrent of irony.

With thanks to Netgalley for providing a sample audio copy.

This is only an hour long, but it's a very fun hour :).
The names given to the children had me laughing out loud at one point. Its narration is great, in a real 'let's settle down' style.

There are several different 'main characters' and I love how the staff are referred to as simply Nanny 2 or Security 6. it pokes gentle, good-humoured fun at the youngsters of the upper classes and how we perceive they must live.

A Delightfully Witty Satire of High Society

5/5 stars - A must-read for fans of satirical humour.

"Bedtime Stories for Privileged Children" by Daniel Foxx sparkles with biting wit and clever observations. This collection of short stories is a masterful satire that playfully skewers the eccentricities of the upper crust.

Foxx's razor-sharp humour is on full display as he crafts tales of pampered little ones navigating their gilded world. Each story is a perfect little vignette, offering readers a glimpse into the absurdly luxurious lives of the fictional dysfunctional families.

His talent for blending the ridiculous with the relatable results in genuinely laugh-out-loud moments. From slurring mamas obsessed with Ozempic, cheese boards, affairs, and divorces to distanced papas embroiled in embezzlement scandals, the characters are delightfully over-the-top yet oddly familiar.
Standout stories include "The Easter Egg Hunt," which educates on the importance to settling out of court, and "Penelope’s Night Before Christmas," a hilarious twist on the classic poem.
While the humour is decidedly adult, none of the language is. It is never directly mean or nasty. Instead, Foxx manages to create a sense of gentle fondness for his privileged protagonists, making the satire all the more effective.

There are some decidedly British references that you might need to look up to fully appreciate some jokes. For example, a P45 is paperwork you get when you leave (or are fired from) a job. Having these definitely lends a British flavour, but doesn’t take away from the humour if you don’t know all the references.

"Bedtime Stories for Privileged Children" is the perfect gift for anyone who appreciates dry humour and social commentary.

Highly recommended for those who enjoy their comedy with a dash of sophistication and a hefty serving of irony.

I loved the book so I was extra excited for the audiobook especially due to watching Daniel's content online - right away the audiobook was exactly what I expected with the voices and this made it more funnier and equally disturbing.

This tongue very firmly in cheek book tells of the trials and tribulations of being the child of a wealthy family. Highly humorous - even more so when listening to the audio version. The only caveat being it may be lost on some who are not familiar with the brands and situations referred to. I guess that makes me a former child of a wealthy family? Particularly amusing are the children’s names. The parents, as in children’s books from the 70’s are notably mostly absent - too busy having Botox, colonic irrigations or breakdowns. Will definitely buy the book for my coffee table.

Firstly I would like to thank Daniel Foxx , Octopus Audio | Monoray and NetGalley for providing me with an audiobook copy of
'Bedtime Stories for Privileged Children' to listen to in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
I was initially drawn to this book by the cover alone as it nostalgically reminded me of the books that I read as a child. I knew instantly that it was going to be different from most due to the lively and charismatic narration that had me captivated from start to finish.
The book comprises of many short bite-sized tales all around 2 minutes in length and centring around the elite world of over privileged children and their wealthy families. Daniel Foxx is a comedy genius as he intertwines British sarcastic humour with tongue and cheek satire.
The stories are definitely not for children , but would appeal to anybody looking for a light hearted humorous read.
Fans of Tom Allen will adore the similarities and manner.
Personally I don't think I would have enjoyed the book as much if I had obtained the text copy. It was the audio read by the author that brought each tale to life. I found it got funnier as time went on and as I adjusted to the writing style.
Highly recommended

Bedtime Stories for Privileged Children is a short audiobook but it doesn’t fail to pack a punch. I loved the snide, tongue in cheek humour and it’s a real perk to have the author narrate the book too.
I think it’s the kind of audiobook that you want to dip in and out off rather than listen to it all on one go.
I would definitely recommend it fans of satire and readers who want a palate refresher of a book.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the chance to review an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

**Listened to the audiobook**

This was brilliant!! So so funny! I thoroughly recommend listening to the audio version as it is read by the author so you can gage the tone right from the off. I'm not sure if you could do that from the just reading the hard copy. Plus the audio offers extra bonus chapters too!

I found this hilarious -I just wish the book was longer.

Fans of Joe Lycett, Tom Allen and Suzie Ruffell would definitely enjoy this book!

More books please Daniel Foxx!
