Although I have enjoyed other Charlotte Mendelssohn books, I could not get into this one. Hopefully it is a one off for me, as I do enjoy Mendelson’s ability to invite you into family life and drama.

Rhapsody in Green* by Charlotte Mendelson is a charming and insightful memoir that explores the author’s deep love for gardening. Blending personal reflections with rich observations of nature, Mendelson takes readers on a journey through her own garden, which becomes a metaphor for her life and emotional growth. Her writing is witty, lyrical, and filled with keen insights about the joys and frustrations of tending to plants.
The book strikes a balance between the beauty of the natural world and the very human struggles that unfold within it. Mendelson’s descriptions of the garden are vivid and evocative, making the reader almost feel like they’re immersed in the earth alongside her. It’s a thoughtful, reflective read for anyone who loves gardening or simply enjoys beautifully written prose about nature and personal transformation.
