Book Review: A Shift in Fate by Maddox Grey

I want to thank NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of A Shift in Fate, the second installment in the Lost Legacies series. After thoroughly enjoying the first book, I was eager to dive back into this captivating world.

The premise grabbed me immediately: our protagonist possesses devourer magic—a dangerous and secretive power linked to monstrous beings that once threatened the realms. This unique twist adds an exciting layer of tension, especially since she must navigate the treacherous landscape of alliances with both fae and daemons. The stakes felt incredibly high, and I appreciated the depth of the world-building that Maddox Grey has created.

The journey to the fae realms is filled with suspense, as our heroine faces relentless assassins who also wield magic like hers. I loved the fast-paced action and the intricacies of her relationships, especially with her best friend, a high-ranking daemon. Their dynamic brought warmth and tension, enhancing the stakes of her quest.

However, there were moments where I felt the pacing faltered, particularly during the setup of certain plot points. I longed for more exploration of her emotional landscape, especially regarding the sacrifices she contemplates. While the story is undeniably engaging, a bit more character development could have elevated it further.

Overall, A Shift in Fate is a thrilling continuation of the Lost Legacies series that fans of urban fantasy will likely enjoy. I’m excited to see where the story leads next and how the complexities of power and friendship evolve in this richly imagined world.

This book was crazy good. I loved all the humor and the amazing plot within this story. The characters were spot on and I could not put this down. So much better than book one and that usually doesn't happen ever. Cannot wait for more in this series.
