A City Full of Hawks is one of the most detailed, well-researched and well-put-together resources on the trailblazer On The Waterfront.
Such a strong piece of art deserves to be analysed within its development and production contexts, and its makers' shadows over it.
The structure is easy-to-follow and the book is informative. Despite having some prior knowledge about Kazan, and the times, many facts and discussions were new to me. Hence, back to my point about the research and the comprehensive text.
Perhaps a little due to the stressful nature of some aspects in the making and context, some parts were more memorable and engaging.
A challenging topic in some ways, and I'd recommend this book to the fans of On The Waterfront, Kazan and Arthur Miller fans, film critics, students, and film studies enthusiasts. Also to historians, sociologists - mainly experts and academics in the cross sections of the themes and topics in this book.
