This is a most unusual story about the redemption and rehabilitation of a nasty murderer. It challenges the reader with cogent arguments which I enjoyed but at 45%, I thought about giving up. There was a lot of wordy repetition that began to turn me off, However, at 50%, Part 2 started and I became engaged again, wanting to see how it ended.

Overall, I found the book a bit wordy but enjoyable - one for the thinker.

The Born Again by John Mullins is a thought-provoking exploration of the human condition, redemption, and the possibility of spiritual rebirth, even for those society deems irredeemable. Mullins takes readers on a profound spiritual journey that challenges preconceived notions about morality, forgiveness, and the capacity for change all mixed in with AI.

Mullins claims that this fictional book takes place way in the future but is written so well that the reader really questions, has it already been done? Think about it, after, these criminals are sentenced, where do they really go? Anyone experienced with the correctional system will admit, some just disappear, never to be heard from again.

The novel features a diverse cast of characters, each representing different facets of humanity and moral ambiguity.

Joe is a compelling character at the heart of "The Born Again." His journey of transformation is both dramatic and deeply engaging, reflecting the central themes of redemption and renewal. Initially portrayed as a flawed individual grappling with his inner demons, Joe's story is a testament to the complex nature of human fallibility and the possibility for profound change. Once a ruthless criminal, Joe’s redemption lies at the heart of the story. What made him commit all the murders? Why would he ever do such things? There may be more to the story.

Zero is a pivotal character in "The Born Again" who plays a crucial role in Joe's transformation. As Joe's mentor and spiritual guide, Zero offers wisdom and guidance that influences Joe's journey towards redemption. Despite his own troubled past, Zero exudes a sense of calm and compassion that draws Joe towards him.

Through their interactions, we see how Zero challenges Joe's beliefs and pushes him to confront difficult truths about himself. But beyond being just a mentor, Zero also serves as a symbol of hope and resilience, having overcome his own struggles to find inner peace. His presence in the narrative highlights the transformative power of forgiveness and the importance of finding purpose. And by the way, Zero is part human, ai and robot. You must read the book to understand the connections.

• Sci Fi Lovers: This book begins fifty years in the future and comes complete with AI integrating with humans and robots. After that there are no clear timelines. The lost in space vibe.

Who Should Not Read:
• Readers Looking for Light Entertainment: The book's heavy themes and philosophical discussions may not appeal to those seeking a light, entertaining read.
• Those Uncomfortable with Moral Ambiguity: If you prefer clear-cut distinctions between good and evil, this book’s nuanced approach may be challenging.
• Family or Victims of Heinous Crimes – This book may trigger you. I can understand why you may not be able to stomach the violence and forgiveness.
• Devout Members of the Catholic Church – This book explores sexual abuse by priests.

I loved "The Born Again." It took me on a spiritual journey that I will never forget. The story's depth and the characters' complexities kept me engaged from start to finish. Mullins masterfully tackles difficult themes with a sensitivity and insight that is rare in contemporary literature. This book has left an impression on me and has profoundly influenced my perspectives on redemption and the human spirit.

If, I give first-time author, Mullins any advice, it is to publish more books on all of the main characters that helped Joe. I look forward to each and will purchase each book with waited anticipation. Do not hold back because I am hooked.

In conclusion, "The Born Again" is a remarkable read that offers valuable insights into the human capacity for change and the power of forgiveness. Whether you are a philosophy reader or a spiritual seeker, or just someone who wants to see other perspectives to challenge their own mindset, this book will inspire you in ways you might not expect.

This isn't my typical style of writing that I enjoy, nor the genre, but as a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I loved this book. The character development is amazing and brings the genres of fantasy and psychological thriller together with a twist in mental health that I think most mental health professionals would enjoy. I think the author's background in theology also puts a unique twist and perspective into this book.
