Hmmmm this book certainly makes you stop and think. And then possibly complete change your ideas which may then make you feel a little uncomfortable with your first gut instincts.
Izzie is only 17 and falls in love for the first time with Dylan who her mom does not approve of. They go of travelling when things all change. Her mom Jess is a typical helicopter mom and best friends with her daughter so obviously seeks police help when Izzie stops texting her. Dylan is raised by his mom Kay in a less affluent part of time and Jess has judged him from day one. The podcast of the story keeps the 2 sides linked but I disliked Jess and Izzie from the off set and felt it was all rather predictable at times. Easy to read and as I say makes you really question your own thoughts and beliefs on which type of mom you would be. Kay or Jess?

A book which made you think about taking responsibility for your actions. Also an understanding of the consequences should you not stand up to what is right.
A very absorbing easy read. I enjoyed it very much

I really enjoyed this book, a nice easy read, compelling with many twists and turns. Have read Heidi perks before and will be definitely looking to read more. Thoroughly recommnend.

Well, this one had me all over the place but in the best way! Just when I thought I had it sussed, boom, another twist! It’s the kind of book you can’t stop thinking about, super fast-paced & full of surprises right to the end.
★★★½ ROUNDED UP ⬆️⭐️

Someone is Lying - Heidi Perks
Issy’s final confession to her mother says everything about the type of person she is…
…and the moral of the story is, you never truly know anyone, not really.

I really enjoyed this book as it was an easy read with plenty of twists to keep me guessing. This would be a perfect holiday read.

An easy read, with twists and turns at every corner. I made my way through this book so quickly, not wanting to put it down. I really felt for Jess, it’s just unimaginable.
I enjoyed the writing style and will definitely be reading more from Heidi Perks in the future.
I would recommend to anyone who loves a good thriller.
Thank you to NetGalley for offering this
ARC in exchange for my personal thoughts.

I always enjoy a destination thriller, and I was keen to spend a bit of time in Portugal by reading this book!
It is cleverly written, setting up a lot of contrasts - Portugal v England, well-off parents (albeit divorced) v single mother, plus others which would be spoilers!
Was it the most unpredictable book I've ever read? No, but it certainly plays on assumptions we can make, and asks questions about how we might act in certain situations. I certainly felt for the characters in this story. 3.5 stars!
Thanks to the author, Penguin, and NetGalley for the eARC of this book.

I wasn't sure about this one to start with, the oace was a bit off for me and the characters drove me mad! But evebtually it shifted and made me very invested. It is well done, where you think the worst of everyone and you thibk you got it right but then another twists tells you otherwise. The ending was in a way unexpected!

Jess is fraught with anxiety when her daughter Issie fails to get in touch on her 18th birthday. Issie is travelling around Europe with her boyfriend Dylan, Jess is convinced something has happened to Issie and with no help from the police she travels to Lisbon herself.
Dylan’s mum Kay doesn’t seem very concerned but with both women wanting to protect their child this book really does show how far a mother will go for her child.
The twists and turns come thick and fast, just when I thought I had it figured out there was another and with chapters from the true crime podcast ‘Gone’ thrown in the mix I really enjoyed this psychological mystery.
Many thanks to publisher, NetGalley and author for my gifted eARC.

I am a great fan of Heidi Perks’ books and this one did not disappoint. It was a gripping read with a great plot with lots of twists and turns. One minute I thought one thing ,the next another. I was totally hooked and found there were so many other issues running through the story. I loved the ending…. Jess was looking for her daughter…the old Issie….. emotionally and physically…. did she ever find her?
Great book… well worth reading!

A fabulous read that had me hooked from the beginning.
Jess is less than thrilled when her seventeen year old daughter, Izzie, goes travelling round Europe with her boyfriend. Having always had a close mother-daughter bond, since the arrival of Dylan, Jess has seen a pronounced change in her daughter, with their relationship becoming more fractious. When both Izzie and Dylan seemingly disappear, and cut all contact, Jess is left fearing the worst, that her daughter is missing. The problem is no one believes her.
The book is largely told from two perspectives: Jess and Kay (Dylan’s mum). Two very different families, with very different means. The core theme of the book however unites them: what would they do to protect their child.
Loads of twists, and a very engaging read. Highly recommend.
5 Stars.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone|Penguin for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

The main question at the heart of this book is 'What would you do for your child? How far would you go for them in any given situation?' This is what two mothers from very different lifestyles face when their children vanish together in Portugal!
It was a very interesting story that discussed the difficulties of disappearances that happen abroad, coercive and controlling relationships as well as the vast differences in the challenges involved in parenting when you can afford to and when it's a struggle to make ends meet!
The story was mostly told to us by Kay and Jess, the mothers, with the occasional script from a podcast included that was following the story as it evolved. Through the story most of the characters were likeable, it just depends on which part you were reading as to who was likeable at that moment due to the nature of the tale being told and how twisty it was to become right through to the last pages!
This was a highly entertaining read that kept the pages turning and me coming back to it every time I could, even if it was only for a few pages!lol

I really enjoyed this book, a nice easy read, compelling with many twists and turns. Have read Heidi perks before and will be definitely looking to read more. Thoroughly recommnend.

4.5 ⭐️
This was my first Heidi Perks book and what a fantastic first impression I have of her writing.
A mother-daughter bond broken by a stranger.
This was a fast-paced thriller mystery which had me completely hooked and I loved it.
This was some ride, a twist at every corner, family secrets and lies, protective parents, divided loyalties and great misdirection.
I look forward to reading more from this author.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this ARC.

Absolutely brilliant read. I flew through this book and just couldn't put it down. This is very much a 'what would you do in their shoes' kind of book, which often leaves you still thinking of it, long after you've finished!

A very good read with lots of thrilling parts to it and an ending I couldn’t have predicted. Well written with interesting characters and the usual teenage angst! A good thriller..

I really loved this book. I haven't read anything by Heidi Perks before and I enjoyed her writing style, I felt it flowed well and I was able to read without stumbling over details or descriptions as with some other authors.
I enjoyed the story as it was quite twisty and the characters were very interesting and multi-dimensional. I didn't feel I was able to predict what would happen and this made it a pleasure to read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book!

I really enjoyed this novel, which explores the impact of coercive and controlling relationships on the decisions we make when we leave them, and the importance of standing up to be counted.

Totally absorbing plot with multi-threaded provocative issues. I loved it. My suspicions are that all parents with teenage children will realise they need to think outside the comfort box! Creative and stylish writing throughout.
The characters were all intriguing and had a lot of depth. My feelings of empathy were entirely focussed on both mothers. Jess and Kay both deserve more from life. Very impressive ladies. I doubt many people could live up to their standards when faced with similar life challenges.
The ending should not really have been a surprise to me but it was!!!
Thoroughly recommended reading here. The author has also been added to my list of favourites. I cannot wait to read more!
