Dylan and Issie go traveling, Issie's mum thinks the unthinkable when she cannot get hold of her for a few days. She takes a flight to try and find her daughter. Then Issie turns up. So does Dylan. Both families have differing accounts have the events. Who is telling the truth? what lengths will they go to to protect family?
I loved this book from start to finish. The pace and plot was just right. I could believe it happening.

This book had so much promise but left me a bit disappointed. The first half was far too slow but it did eventually pick up and gather a bit of pace. There was a bit of uncertainty as to who had committed the crime but I felt that this was sign posted early enough that it didn’t leave me guessing. I’m glad this isn’t the first book I’ve read by this author as her previous ones were much better.

Another great book from this author that kept me thoroughly engaged. Even though I am not a parent it did make me wonder how far a loving parent would go to protect their child. The narrative was well written and thoroughly up to date in describing the issues of today’s society. Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC.

Someone is Lying is told from two view points; Issie’s mum Jess and Dylan’s mum, Kay with the addition of ‘podcast’ chapters being interspersed throughout the novel which worked well with the plot line. The book had a strong start, setting the scene and leading you into wondering which way the plot will go. However o found the pace dropped off somewhat in the middle and struggled to gain momentum again. Having said that, there were some good twists so overall I would rate this 3.5*. Thank you to NetGalley, Random House UK, Cornerstone and the author for the chance to review.

A good read overall but it didn't keep me on the edge of my seat unfortunately.

I have read a few books from this author that I enjoyed more than this one which dragged for me in places.

Thank you to Netgalley and Random House for this ARC.

A story that all mothers can relate to.

I really enjoyed this book and related to it as a single mother myself. As a mother you always want the best for your child and Jess is no exception. Her daughter, Issie is just coming up to her 18th birthday and Jess has always had an amazing relationship with her for the eight years that they have been alone. Her ex-husband is living in America with his new wife and is only a fleeting part of his daughter's life although his money has ensured that they are comfortable.

However during the last year Jess has been going out with a new boyfriend, Dylan, whom Jess feels is too controlling and is taking her daughter away from her. The story begins when Issy and Dylan go on holiday to Portugal, Jess is not happy but does not want the rift between her and her daughter to widen so has grudgingly let them go. However Issy's 18th birthday is a few days into the trip but Jess hears nothing from her daughter, her phone is switched off and she cannot contact her. Jess knows that something has happened as her daughter would never ignore her on her birthday. However because she is now 18 the police cannot get involved.

We are then introduced to Kay who is Dylan's mother. She , too, is a single parent to both Dylan and also her 7 year old son Billy. However their circumstances are different, Kay works hard at a cafe and struggles with money problems. However she has always thought her son was hard-working and was not overly impressed with Issy.

The stories of the two mothers and their respective feelings for their children is the basic premise of this book. The author explores brilliantly how the two women are fiercely protective of their children and when it is discovered that a crime has been committed both mothers blame the other one. I found myself sympathising with both women throughout the book and can fully understand their need to defend their own child.

I would recommend this book, ii is very well written and really gives food for thought. I must admit I was also thrown by the twist at the end, which really made me think.

I couldn't put this book down once I started it. As any parents know once your children get to a certain age you spend your whole time worrying when they are out of sight. This story captured it perfectly when Jess 's daughter Issie seems to become withdrawn after meeting Dylan. Is she being controlled is the fear Jess has, which is compounded when the couple go on holiday to Portugal together and disappear of the radar. Issie stops communicating and doesn't reply to any of Jess's messages or calls even though it is her 18th birthday. Are Jess's worse fears being confirmed? Has something happened to her daughter? A turbulent read with a twist at the end that completely changes your perception of how evaluate people. Fabulous read

Issie, 17, and her boyfriend Dylan have gone travelling in Portugal. Unable to contact Issie on her 18th birthday, mum Jess starts to believe that Issie is missing. Having misgivings about Dylan, Jess is convinced he has done something to her daughter.
As the story progresses, it's clear that something bad has happened, The two Mums, Jess and Kay, are key to this story. Ultimately they are both led to the question "how far would you go to protect your child?".
It takes a great storyteller to keep the reader hooked when not much is happening. Heidi Perks has this skill and I was delighted to have the opportunity to read this ARC.

When Jess hasn’t heard from her daughter Issie for a few days, she reports her as missing. Issie is travelling in Portugal with her boyfriend Dylan, but she doesn’t contact her mother on her 18th birthday which is most unusual, so what was Jess to do, of course she reports her as missing.
Told from the side of both mothers who would do anything to help their children, even lie!
Fascinating story which involves the question of nurture or nature.
What would you do if your child is accused of murder?

.This novel about A single mother Jess and her daughter Issie who have always been close until Issie meets Dylan. The story focuses heavily on mother and daughter relationship and for me I plodded through. An average read but great opportunity to try this author but it was not gripping.

Jess is a single mother who has done a wonderful job of raising her daughter Issie. Or has she?

Because when Issie becomes increasingly close to her boyfriend Dylan, whom Jess considers to be a bad influence, their own relationship - once so close - quickly begins to disintegrate.

Jess understandably blames Dylan, but how has Issie become like a stranger in such a short time? And things go from bad to worse when her daughter disappears on holiday, and no one seems willing to take Jess's concerns seriously...

Taking a familiar trope, the author delivers an interesting and original story. This is a cleverly written, suspenseful novel from Heidi Perks, and it's clear that she is becoming a better writer with each book.

Dylan and Issie are going travelling in Europe, and will be away for Issie’s eighteenth birthday.

Issie’s mum, Jess, isn’t happy at all. She doesn’t trust Dylan at all. She’s seen a change in Issie since she started dating Dylan, and it’s not for the better.

When Issie doesn’t respond to the texts and phone calls from her mum on her eighteenth birthday, Jess panics, convinced something bad has happened to her daughter.

Jess jumps on a plane to go and find her daughter, what transpires throws everything she thinks she knows on its head.

This was an enjoyable read that had me hooked from the start.

The characters were cleverly thought out. The class difference between Jess and Dylan’s mum was played out well, and made me second guess everything.

This is a tale full of secrets and lies. I was enjoyed picking away at the layers, to try and work out the truth.

This is my first book by the author, and it won’t be my last. A thoroughly entertaining story.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

This was a really great read that I raced through: easy to get into and well paced I would fully recommend

On reading the 'blurb' about this book I was excited to read it, however, I was disappointed as I found it to be very repetitive and the story quite predictable. It also felt like I’d read it before – the premise is not exactly new. The twist was signposted quite early on. One for an easy holiday read on a beach perhaps.

Thank you to NetGalley & Random House UK for the advance copy of this book.

Enjoyable but disappointing. The book starts very slowly with lots of repetition then spirals down to a predictable ending. Not one of Perks best books but I'm sure many will enjoy it.

As always, Heidi Perks gets right to the important questions. What would you do if you knew your child was guilty of a crime? Would you like to protect them or would you tell the truth?

A fantastic read that I didn’t want to out down.

Perceptions change throughout this book as the reader is left wondering who to believe and what happened after a teenage couple drop off the radar on holiday, causing very different reactions from each of their mothers. I guessed where it was going pretty early on but I never really mind that, because at least then it makes sense. It was a quick paced and engrossing read.
