I started this book and I persevered because it’s a Dilly Court and very rarely are her books not good. It took me quite a bit to properly get into the plot and enjoy it. I felt that the first half was too tame and the immature Lottie and the juvenile relationship she had with her brother Adam, was boring and too twee for my liking.
Once Poppy left for Domesday House, it began to get more interesting and the feisty side of Poppys character got to show more.
I really enjoyed it from then on and flew through it, unwilling to put it down till it was finished. As always a host of likeable and unlikeable characters filled the pages.

Another wonderful story from Dilly Court, as always captivating her readers from the very first page.
This one tells the lives of both the wealthy and the impoverished children living in terrible conditions. The two narratives intertwine beautifully.

Set in 1899, this well-written story features the reunion of old characters Flora and Daniel, who are Poppy's parents. Poppy is a likable, headstrong young woman who stands up for what's right.

As always, this book is a compelling page-turner that captivates the reader from the very first page. I didn't want the story to end—it's perfect for a chilly, dark winter evening.

This book deserves five stars and more!

Poppy is the daughter of Flora and Daniel who we have met in previous story. It’s a really great storyline but best to read in order so to understand the characters more. Based around 1899 onwards an honest portrayal of life between the rich and poor. Thanks to Dilly Court and her publisher. Thanks also to NetGalley

A lovely warm story from Dilly. I enjoyed this one as it's such a quick and easy read. It flows along and the story is so interesting. I love this type of book as the era they are set in was such a leisurely time. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Rockwood Chronicles #8

When Poppy Robbins is targeted by a blackmailer threatening to reveal secrets from her family's past, she turns to the mysterious Edward Traverner for help. Traverner proposes an escape to his country manor, and to maintain a respectable appearance, he asks her to pose as his fiancee. She reluctantly agrees, but then finds herself trapped, unwelcome, and alone in a threadbare mansion.

I'm a huge fan of Dilly Court. I've read and loved all of her books. We meet some characters from the Rockwood Chronicles that we've met before, but there's one character that returns that I think everyone has a dislike for. Poppy works in her family's restaurant, Rainbows End, before she pretends to be Edward Taverner's fiancee. On a dy out with her friends, Adam and Lottie, they bump into a mysterious woman who is obviously in distress. Who is this woman? What does she want from them? I enjoyed the journey finding out.

Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

This was another fabulous, well written story by Dilly Court,

Poppy lives and works with her mum and dad in their restaurant at Rainbows End Poppy

She loves her life, but would like to find something else to do as well, but is as yet unsure what that is.

She also loves meeting her friends Adam, Lottie and Gideon. When they spend a day out together, that help a lady they’ve never met before and something about her story doesn’t feel true.

Then she vanished without thanking them. Poppy feels like she’s a mystery, when she keeps appearing wherever they go.

Why is this lady always there? Who is she and what does she want from them?

The story keeps you turning the pages.

I highly recommend this book.

Poppys Choice by Dilly Court

What I love, about a Dilly Court book is you know you are in for a great read and a heartwarming story , and this book does not disappoint .
We get to know Poppy Robins , who works for her parents at the family business , a restaurant.
Poppy and her friends happen to come upon a young women in distress but unfortunately , they are pulled into a situation that is not too good for Poppy and she has to seek help from elsewhere .
I really got caught up with the story and high recommend.

Dilly Court knows her craft. i dont know how she first realised how and what she would write about in storytelling and genre terms but im so glad she did! becasue we are lucky to have such skill and talent pen these stories for us to read.
and she never fails. and i never doubt i will love each and every one of her books. so of course this indeed ticked every box for me.
it had her usual style and flare but somehow once again she managed to make it a completely orginal story.
i havent me these characters before so i was a bit perplexed at a certain point. but then quickly found weve met some before so need to go back to the other book that links it. it wasnt too much of a problem though. not at all and it didnt lose any of the joy from another super book.
this time we have a novel telling the story of very different worlds. Poppy runs a restaurant with her family. but someone from their past comes and threatens all that. so she is forced to seek out a mysterious character for aid. but was this the right decision? Poppy also has a need to help people living in poverty which i thought added to her character and the stroyline so much.
another winner. i cant wait for my next.

i dont know how, but i do think there needs to be some logo, sign or definitive marker that mean we know this is an arc or features characters from other books. but then im guessing this brings fear people wont always read a book? when some, even like this one can very much be read as a standalone so i wouldnt want people to miss out on them either.

A great read from Dilly Court though if you did not realise there had been books before then some of the characters and their storylines might seem a bit strange.
As it was I felt there was an inconsistency in one character that made it difficult to follow having read the previous book.
This one centres round the children, Polly daughter of Flora and Daniel and Charlotte (Lottie) and Adam - twins belong to Bella and Freddie nd their younger son Arthur.
I did find the storyline regarding Mrs Whidden, Gervase and Miranda stretched credibility slightly but it did fit in with events from the previous book.

I did start to read this book and felt I had read it before then realised that it was part of a series and that I has met some characters before. Perhaps it should have been made more clear that it was a follow-on book?

It was the sort of book that was an easy read but one that I kept picking up and reading another chapter to find out what was going on. I felt the end was rather rushed but nevertheless it was an enjoyable read.

Another brilliant novel by Dilly Court. It follows Poppy Robbins who helps run her parents restaurant and socializing with her friends Adam & Lottie.
Poppy and her friends go to help a young lady in distress but not all is as it seems. Unfolds a series of events that lead to Poppy being blackmailed and seeking the help of Eddie Taverner.
A lovely story as always looking forward to next. Thank you for advanced copy.

Dilly never disappoints! Another captivating, historical novel set in Essex. Poppy’s friends Adam and his sister Lottie live very different lives to Poppy with their father being the Earl of Dorrington while Poppy’s parents have a restaurant. I really recommend this book, it’s full of wonderful characters- some dubious!

Oh what a joy to revisit our old friends at Rainbows End! Another thrilling installment in their history, this time focusing on the irrepressible, courageous and feisty Poppy. Poppy is a woman ahead of her time and restless in her life working in her parents successful restaurant, though devoted to them both. Courted by aristocratic Adam, her childhood friend, a match encouraged by both sets of parents, Poppy is not ready for a life of indolent luxury. Moved immeasurably but seeing first hand the awful poverty of children in the the east end of London, she is determined to do something to improve their lot. Before she can do anything about this though, her family and friends come under threat from a menacing echo of their parents past and she is led to seek out the help of a mysterious businessman, Mr Taverner, know for his somewhat unorthodox methods as well as his philanthropy towards orphans. Their encounter leads them on many adventures in their quest to save Poppy 's family and also to help those unfortunate people who have taken up residence in her heart and mind -chief of whom is the mischievous young orphan left to find his own way on the streets at the age of 5 (I wanted to adopt him myself!). I adore this book. It has everything; drama, intrigue, humour, pathos and romance. Worthy of Jane Austen!

A lovely, gentle read which covered a lot of ground. The plot is the usual mix of relationships, friendship and nefarious characters. This time, there is a malicious cousin parading about looking to blackmail Poppy and her family. This is drawn out and goes from nasty words, threats and blackmail all the way to blackmail and kidnap. Alongside the nastiness is romance and friendship with difficult decisions to make between those that Poppy has known since she was little. A non threatening and easy to read saga.
