Fantastic book. I loved the storyline line, & the characters . Kept me up all night as I couldn't put it down
The Honeymoon is another great read by Gemma Rogers. It starts off strong and the pace is kept up the whole way through. I would class this book as a domestic thriller and it’s one of my favourite genres. This was a tense and fast read with plenty of twists, that at times left me speechless. I finished this book in one sitting as once I started it I honestly couldn’t put it down.
I received an E-ARC with a request for my honest review.
This gripping thriller which follows Kelly who on her wedding day discovers her husband with another woman. Her heart is broken, but not ready to confront her husband leaves for her honeymoon on her own.
The resort gives Kelly the chance to think over how she wants to move forward, however when her husband turns up, she discovers there are even more secrets he is hiding.
Whilst Kelly tries to enjoy what she can of her honeymoon, unexpected guests make it even more impossible, but she must keep up appearances until they are home.
What secrets is her husband keeping? Who can she trust?
This thriller is gripping throughout and gets even more shocking as more secrets are revealed leading to terrifying consequences.
I felt for Kelly, as she was trying to stay strong in an impossible situation, and it was great to see how strong she was when many would just fall apart.
I will certainly be reading more from this author, as I couldn’t put this read down.
Overall, a gripping thriller where secrets revealed on the honeymoon lead to terrifying consequences.
First time with this new author for me. The story delivers an engaging yet somewhat predictable storyline centered around betrayal, secrets, and self-discovery. The plot kicks off dramatically when the protagonist catches her just newly married husband and her best friend kissing on her wedding day ceremony, leading her to impulsively embark on the honeymoon alone. This sets the stage for a journey that mixes heartbreak, suspense, and emotional upheaval.
The premise is intriguing—a bride left to deal with the betrayal on own, and finding a way to reclaim her agency. The tension builds as her husband arrives with the best friend couple in tow, forcing all the hidden secrets into the open.
The author weaves together themes of marital strife, friendship, and betrayal well, keeping the reader invested in the characters' tangled web of lies and emotions.
However, despite the interesting setup, the story does fall into predictability at times.
One of the more intriguing aspects is whether the best friend’s husband knew about the affair. This question lingers throughout, adding a subtle layer of tension. However, the exploration of this subplot could have been deeper, as it leaves some loose threads that might have enriched the overall narrative.
In summary I enjoyed this one. It delivers a solid read with emotional highs and lows, but doesn't stray too far from a story of infidelity. It’s an enjoyable journey, especially if you appreciate stories of personal growth set against a backdrop of betrayal.
The Honeymoon - Gemma Rogers ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I really enjoyed this story. It was predictable but still a great story.
On the night of her wedding, Kelly finds her new husband sleeping with her best friend, Liza. She decides to go on her honeymoon alone only to find her husband will soon join her. Not only does her husband join her but so do her cheating best friend and her husband. The most unbelievable plot whole is how Kelly played along with the charade that her marriage wasn't over, Ryan (hubby) finally comes clean that they are financially ruined. She begins to suspect hes in deeper trouble than hes letting on.
Thank you to my partners, Rachel’s Random Resources, NetGalley, and Boldwood Books, and the author. I appreciate the gifted eARC, and I am leaving this review voluntarily!
1. 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞 - Just a thought I had but I think I would’ve just relocated to a different hotel or resort (or Nico’s place) if I was Kelly. That way Ryan wouldn’t be able to find me so easily.
2. 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐓𝐨 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 - Just when Kelly thinks she has discovered the people who have deceived her, she keeps finding more and more people that knew all along. She just couldn’t seem to find her footing in this department.
3. 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 - How quickly one can fall out of love and back into it. I mean, don’t get me wrong, that love switch would be immediately turned off for me, too, had I found my hours-long husband in a compromising position with anyone. And why not find someone new on your solo honeymoon!
4. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 - What ends up happening to Ryan is really just karma. People just need to make some smarter decisions in life and be open with those around them. I didn’t feel any remorse for his demise.
5. 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 - I don’t know for sure, but I feel like this might have been a bit of a cliffhanger, Ms. Rogers. If it smells like a cliffhanger and looks like one, it must be one, right?
I enjoyed this intriguing domestic suspense that has many surprises and toxic relationships. Kelly decides to go on honeymoon alone after discovering her new husband's betrayal, but when he follows her, the web of deceit magnifies, and Kelly wonders who she can trust. I like the light relief that Nico provided. He is the one bright spark in Kelly's imploding life. I like the multilayered characters and how most are unlikeable. The intensity, suspense and toxic ethos make this compelling.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.
The first three quarters of the book was all about Kelly, Ryan and their disastrous honeymoon. It was made worse by the arrival of best friend and business partner Bobby and his wife Liza who was having an affair with Ryan. The last quarter of the book was more interesting. Terrified by two “accidents” Kelly returns home, where she has to deal with an arson attack on her and Ryan’s house. She finds out that Ryan owes money to a loan shark who is determined to get his money by any means.
Not the worst book I have read.

The Honeymoon is a fast paced unputdownable domestic thriller with lots of domestic drama, crime and violence! Definitely a book once you start reading you can't put down until the very last page! It's the first book I've read by author Gemma Rogers and I was not disappointed.
Synopsis: My wedding was the perfect whirlwind of a day. The happiest I’d ever been. That was until I discovered my beloved husband, Ryan, tucked away in a compromising summer house clinch with Liza, his best friend’s wife.
Many thanks to #TheHoneymoon #NetGalley and Boldwood books for providing me with an E-ARC of this 5 star thriller!
The book started great, with a promise of more. Kelly running off to Crete was exciting, and I eagerly waited to see what would come next. However, the other half read like a different book altogether.
It wasn’t as thrilling as I had hoped or anticipated. It didn’t really hold my attention.
Detailed review to come.
Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the free ARC.
Another fantastic novel by Gemma Rogers. I loved this twisty suspenseful story set in a stunning location. An brilliant, fast pace beach read xx
1⭐️ Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an advanced copy of The Honeymoon.
Kelly sees her husband of a few hours sleeping with his best friend’s wife on there wedding day. She is crushed and decides to go on her honeymoon alone. Except a few days later her husband shows up with his best friend and his wife. She starts to realize she does not know her husband as well as she thought.
This book was definitely not what I expected. I feel like I was reading two different books with the first half being about the honeymoon and the second half being a totally different story. The book was trying to tell too many different stories in my opinion. I was not a fan at all.
A super holiday book with a bit of everything from romance to treachery. So yes it’s a bit long winded and lots of unlikely scenarios but a good solid read all the same. I couldn’t leave it till I had it read anyway.
WoW........Round of applause to Gemma Rogers for writing another fantastic book!!!.........WoW

Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
Addictive, fast paced, dramatic, and hard to put down! The Honeymoon was instantly gripping and sucked me in immediately. Can you imagine finding your spouse cheating on you on your wedding day???????? Talk about a heartbreaking shocker! What's a girl to do but go on her honeymoon alone to lick her wounds and try to figure out what to do next!
Kelly goes to Crete alone after Ryan passionately kissing another woman on their wedding day. The calls and the texts begin to come in from Ryan. Kelly hoped this would be a peaceful trip to figure out what to do next, but it turned into a drama filled nightmare. The shocks, twists, and 'holy crap' moments kept coming in and I was all there for it! I loved every second of it. But like all things, the honeymoon must come to an end. Then there is a shift in the book. I felt as if I had whiplash! Just when I thought I had seen all there was to see, more came in and things got really OTT after that. This is where the author lost a few happy readers, I believe. I sat there shocked as well. The beginning of the book was a five-star read for me. I loved every single page of it. But when things took a turn, I had to find my footing once again. I imagine this is how the character of Kelly felt as well from the day she got married.
This book put Kelly (and this reader) through the ringer in this twist and shock filled book. I thought I knew exactly where this book was going and then *Bam* it took off in another direction. This book may have readers wondering just how well they know those in their lives.
Gemma Rogers piled on the drama, tension, emotions, and catty comments like the pro she is. This book had my jaw hanging open, my blood boiling, and my expectations all over the place. This book was like being on a roller coaster ride. It was thrilling, had me feeling anxious, then left me with the air sucked out of me.
I enjoyed the first part of the book more than the last half but must give Gemma Rogers props for writing a book that I could not put down. I read this in one day as I was glued to the pages.
Addictive, shocking, maddening, and tense!
Hooked from page one this had so many twists and turns! There was absolutely no way of knowing how this was going to turn out. On her wedding day Kelly comes across new husband Ryan in a compromising position with Liza who is the wife of his best friend. She decides to go on the honeymoon on her own but as events unfold it turns out that Ryan has a lot of secrets and they keep on coming. Kelly doesn’t know who to trust and is torn between This is pacy and a real page turner. Thanks to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for the ARC
I wouldn't necessarily call this story a psychological thriller however it is a solid tale which makes you want to turn the pages. Personally I would have taken his passport but then we wouldn't have a story!! Plenty of twists and lies to keep the reader guessing what is actually going on. A good read.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC to review.
Overall I found this title very boring. I thought the book has promise based on the description it just didn't really go anywhere in my opinion.
Whoa! After finally marrying the love of her life after 10 years together, Kelly Carbon is quickly discovering that her time with her new husband, Ryan, has been full of secrets and lies. And it all starts on her wedding day when she finds Ryan cheating with her good friend and his best friend’s wife. Overcome with emotion, Kelly flees the wedding reception without telling anyone in hopes of escaping the shock of what she’s just seen. She leaves for her honeymoon by herself, but the crazy revelations keep coming. Can she trust any of her closest friends? How about the new acquaintances she’s made on her trip? Is she paranoid and overthinking things? This book is a page turner and full of surprises; another great read by Gemma Rogers. Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the digital ARC.
Domestic tale with a suspenseful edge. Kelly is celebrating her wedding to her partner of 10 years Ryan. She goes outside for a breath of air and finds Ryan kissing Liza, the wife of his best friend and business partner. Instead of confronting the couple, Kelly sneaks out of her wedding and eads to their honeymoon destination, Crete. Then there is a large part of the book about Kelly's experiences on Crete including people she meets, lying in the sun, what she had for dinner etc. One of the people she meets is a handsome bartender. The in a few days later Ryan arrives at the resort with his business partner and his wife in tow. At this point there is a lot of arguing back and forth as Kelly finds out more than knew about her partner and the various lies he has told her. Kelly also begins a relationship with the bartender which adds a romantic element to the book.
The writing was good but the story veered between a domestic tale about the breakdown of a marriage, a new romance story and a mystery plot where someone may or may not be trying to kill Kelly. When the couple return home, it turns into more of a thriller as Kelly has to decide what to do about her husband who is not the person she thought he was but who she still loves. i wanted more suspense and for Kelly to wise up much sooner regarding Ryan and his lying. I did think it was unbelievable that Ryan was a perfect partner for 10 years when he was in reality into some very shady things.
