I had seen several of this author's books, but until now, I had never read one. I found the simplistic writing style similar to Freida McFadden and Valerie Keough.
Seeing your husband cheat on you just minutes after saying your marriage vows has got to be heartbreaking. Going on your honeymoon alone would be depressing, but who Kelly ends up seeing on her honeymoon was definitely a shock!
The first 19 chapters felt repetitive and monotonous, so when a breadcrumb was finally dropped at the end of chapter 19, I had hope that things would pick up.
The conclusion was fairly predictable but all in all, I did find reading the book enjoyable.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion/review.
My thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Honeymoon’ written by Gemma Rogers in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Kelly and Ryan have only been married for seven hours when she sees him in a passionate clinch with Liza, a woman she thought was a close friend. Kelly hides his passport and flies off to the luxury hotel in Crete on her own to begin what should have been their honeymoon. Then her world is further shattered when Ryan turns up at the hotel bringing with him Liza and her husband Bobby, Ryan’s business partner.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed ‘The Honeymoon’ with its cleverly-written storyline and twisty plot incorporating plenty of suspense and drama. I liked the character of Kelly although I was puzzled how she could have put up with Ryan’s inconsiderate attitude for as long as she did. When their honeymoon was over I thought that was the end of the story but that wasn’t to be the case as the more that happened the more exciting it became until I was tense with anticipation as to how it could all end. Thank you, Gemma, for writing such an entertaining novel that was so gripping I couldn’t put it down and read it in a day.
Right away this book had me gripped, there was so much suspense and tension from the get go that I knew I needed to find out the truth. Overall it was full of drama, danger and deceit and it proved to be a very twisty read,
4 stars
This was so good. Really fast paced. Definitely a “popcorn thriller” it’s a quick read too.
If you are looking for a quick thriller to get out of a slump this would be great for that. There were a few unexpected twists but nothing too crazy. I like that as everything was unraveling it was fully explained what was going on in the bigger picture.
I enjoyed the way the author wrote it I would read something by her again.
100% yes! This one I binged completely! Love the twists and turns and the complexities involved in this novel. Drama builds and just when you know what’s coming, the plot twists to keep you on your toes. Don’t miss this one!
Thank you Boldwood Books and Gemma Rogers for the ARC! I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It was not at all what I was expecting and had my jaw on the floor multiple times. This is the first time I've read a book by Gemma Rogers and it certainly won't be the last! The storyline was fluid and there weren't any gaps to make you wonder what you were reading. I haven't read anything like this before!
I feel like I been hoodwinked and bamboozled. I went into this book thinking it was a thriller but low and behold it was just women's fiction. Yeah, some shady stuff was going on, but it definitely shouldn't have been listed as a thriller. It started off good because I was invested from jump, but it took a turn at about 65% to try to fit that "thriller" genre I guess and just fell flat. It was a crazy twist that had me shocked for sure, but it was still just okay for me. I wanted to love it so much.
3.5 stars. Thank you for this early read! Great setting and definitely some twists in this one that had me guessing until the end. This was my first time reading anything by this author and I'll definitely look for her again. Thanks Netgalley!
When I started reading this book I thought ‘Wow, this is fabulous’, and I loved it right up until about 70% when Kelly arrived back in England. After that the plot became ‘too much’ and it felt like it was two books combined into one. That was disappointing, but I enjoyed the first part and it was well written. I would recommend it for a decent read. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the arc.
Nice quick read. It was interesting, pretty predictable, but entertaining. A nice distraction and good read.
Thanks for letting me read.
“The Honeymoon” is a psychological thriller that follows the tumultuous journey of a newlywed woman whose life takes an unexpected turn on what should be the happiest day of her life. The story begins with the protagonist, who experiences sheer joy during her wedding ceremony, only to have that joy shattered when she discovers her husband, Ryan, in a compromising situation with Liza, his best friend’s wife.
Reeling from this betrayal, the protagonist flees her own wedding in search of solace and clarity. With a luxury honeymoon planned on the Cretan Island just hours away, she contemplates whether ten days away from her cheating husband can help her figure out her future. However, after a few days of enjoying the sun and trying to find peace, her tranquility is disrupted by Ryan’s arrival. He denies any wrongdoing and brings with him secrets that threaten to unravel everything she thought she knew about their relationship.
As the narrative unfolds, themes of betrayal, trust, and emotional turmoil are explored. The protagonist grapples with the reality of her crumbling marriage while trying to navigate through the complexities brought on by Ryan’s secrets. The tension builds as she realizes that getting through the honeymoon may not be as straightforward as she had hoped.
“The Honeymoon” presents a gripping tale filled with twists and turns that keep readers engaged until the very last page. It poses questions about love, loyalty, and self-discovery in the face of profound betrayal.
2 stars! ⭐️⭐️
I feel like I got duped!
It really annoys me when a book is marketed as a psychological thriller (or any genre) and it ends up going in a different direction. Once that happens for me, I tend to check out. I would say this is more women’s fiction, which is fine but not what I signed up for.
I’ve never read a book by Gemma Rogers until now. The premise sounded really intriguing: Woman discovers her husband cheating on her with her best friend at their wedding, flees without telling anyone and goes on the honeymoon without him. Everything is peachy keen until this loser shows up denying everything.
The first 50ish% was the honeymoon. That’s it. The last 50ish% was after they returned home. The story took a weird turn and I felt like I was reading a completely different book.
When I read a thriller, I expect twists and turns. I expect suspense. I expect shocking moments. This book had none of that. It was fast paced, but probably because I skimmed the last 30%.
I doubt I’ll recommend this one to anybody or read another by this author.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for my advanced copy to read and review.
Firstly thank you for my early access in exchange for a review. This is a new author to me and I loved it being set in Crete but not only that the same area I was at in June .
This really enhanced the reading experience for me as I could vividly recall imagery .
This is one hell of a rollercoaster of a story!
Revelations one after the other and twists and turns aplenty .
Nothing is as it seems and what starts as a dream wedding ends up being a nightmare time for Kelly .
Packed with tension it’s unpredictable and a book i raced through .
I was definitely hooked and I will be reading more of her books !
I received a free copy of this book from net galley in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this book, it was fast paced, full of incidents and reveals from the start. I would call this a cosy thriller in the style it was written, but still had what could be some triggering themes.
The ending was great, not drawn out and answered most of the questions I had, but left one or 2 for your imagination!
I will be looking out for other books by this author from now on.
Gemma Rogers does it again with The Honeymoon. This one is a fast paced thriller that I could not put down and kept me guessing until the very end. This book was full of unlikeable characters which made it even better.
Well this was a twisty read!
Kelly and Ryan have a dream wedding, until Ryan turns it into a nightmare. Kelly flees to her honeymoon in Crete, alone... That is until Ryan turns up, and then the twists keep on coming.
All the way through I was rooting for Kelly and wanting Ryan to get his comeuppance,
Thanks to netgalley for the opportunity to review this book this is my honest opinion.
Exciting rollercoaster of a read. Thrilling and keeps you on your toes to the very end.
How would you react when you find your husband of a few hours intimate with your best friend and his best friends life?
Would you face the music or run away for a honeymoon of one.
Fantastic book from Gemma Roger’s writing like only she does.
The Honeymoon was a solid thriller about a couple already starting on rocky footing, finding themselves in quite the predicament.
I would have liked to see more of a relationship development in several of the relationships in this book. The thriller plot itself was good, if a bit disjointed. Overall I enjoyed it!
From the moment I started reading The Honeymoon, I didn’t experience any lull in the pace of the story, which can sometimes happen with novels in the Mystery Thriller genre. I really appreciated that I found it hard to put the book down. The short chapters were effective in building conflict and tension throughout the story, which is the reason behind my five-star rating
