“The Honeymoon” is a psychological thriller that follows the tumultuous journey of a newlywed woman whose life takes an unexpected turn on what should be the happiest day of her life. The story begins with the protagonist, who experiences sheer joy during her wedding ceremony, only to have that joy shattered when she discovers her husband, Ryan, in a compromising situation with Liza, his best friend’s wife.

Reeling from this betrayal, the protagonist flees her own wedding in search of solace and clarity. With a luxury honeymoon planned on the Cretan Island just hours away, she contemplates whether ten days away from her cheating husband can help her figure out her future. However, after a few days of enjoying the sun and trying to find peace, her tranquility is disrupted by Ryan’s arrival. He denies any wrongdoing and brings with him secrets that threaten to unravel everything she thought she knew about their relationship.

As the narrative unfolds, themes of betrayal, trust, and emotional turmoil are explored. The protagonist grapples with the reality of her crumbling marriage while trying to navigate through the complexities brought on by Ryan’s secrets. The tension builds as she realizes that getting through the honeymoon may not be as straightforward as she had hoped.

“The Honeymoon” presents a gripping tale filled with twists and turns that keep readers engaged until the very last page. It poses questions about love, loyalty, and self-discovery in the face of profound betrayal.

2 stars! ⭐️⭐️

I feel like I got duped!

It really annoys me when a book is marketed as a psychological thriller (or any genre) and it ends up going in a different direction. Once that happens for me, I tend to check out. I would say this is more women’s fiction, which is fine but not what I signed up for.

I’ve never read a book by Gemma Rogers until now. The premise sounded really intriguing: Woman discovers her husband cheating on her with her best friend at their wedding, flees without telling anyone and goes on the honeymoon without him. Everything is peachy keen until this loser shows up denying everything.

The first 50ish% was the honeymoon. That’s it. The last 50ish% was after they returned home. The story took a weird turn and I felt like I was reading a completely different book.

When I read a thriller, I expect twists and turns. I expect suspense. I expect shocking moments. This book had none of that. It was fast paced, but probably because I skimmed the last 30%.

I doubt I’ll recommend this one to anybody or read another by this author.

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for my advanced copy to read and review.

Firstly thank you for my early access in exchange for a review. This is a new author to me and I loved it being set in Crete but not only that the same area I was at in June .
This really enhanced the reading experience for me as I could vividly recall imagery .

This is one hell of a rollercoaster of a story!
Revelations one after the other and twists and turns aplenty .
Nothing is as it seems and what starts as a dream wedding ends up being a nightmare time for Kelly .
Packed with tension it’s unpredictable and a book i raced through .
I was definitely hooked and I will be reading more of her books !

I received a free copy of this book from net galley in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book, it was fast paced, full of incidents and reveals from the start. I would call this a cosy thriller in the style it was written, but still had what could be some triggering themes.

The ending was great, not drawn out and answered most of the questions I had, but left one or 2 for your imagination!

I will be looking out for other books by this author from now on.

Gemma Rogers does it again with The Honeymoon. This one is a fast paced thriller that I could not put down and kept me guessing until the very end. This book was full of unlikeable characters which made it even better.

Well this was a twisty read!

Kelly and Ryan have a dream wedding, until Ryan turns it into a nightmare. Kelly flees to her honeymoon in Crete, alone... That is until Ryan turns up, and then the twists keep on coming.

All the way through I was rooting for Kelly and wanting Ryan to get his comeuppance,

Thanks to netgalley for the opportunity to review this book this is my honest opinion.

Exciting rollercoaster of a read. Thrilling and keeps you on your toes to the very end.
How would you react when you find your husband of a few hours intimate with your best friend and his best friends life?
Would you face the music or run away for a honeymoon of one.
Fantastic book from Gemma Roger’s writing like only she does.

The Honeymoon was a solid thriller about a couple already starting on rocky footing, finding themselves in quite the predicament.

I would have liked to see more of a relationship development in several of the relationships in this book. The thriller plot itself was good, if a bit disjointed. Overall I enjoyed it!

From the moment I started reading The Honeymoon, I didn’t experience any lull in the pace of the story, which can sometimes happen with novels in the Mystery Thriller genre. I really appreciated that I found it hard to put the book down. The short chapters were effective in building conflict and tension throughout the story, which is the reason behind my five-star rating

A few months ago I tried to read a book by this author (but I dnfed that book...) and now that I saw she had a new book coming up I decided to give Gemma Rogers another chance.
Well, it was not a successful attempt.
I believe that it is the writing that pulls me out of the story. I do like the plots of her books, but the execution feels too flat, too basic for my taste in mystery/thrillers. This one reads very quickly, I'll give you that. But it wasn't enough to keep me engaged or even curious to what would happen in the end.
I'd recommend this book to people who have read something by this author before and enjoyed it.

"The Honeymoon" by Gemma Rogers is a page turning thriller that keeps you guessing to the very end. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and you don't want to put it down.
Kelly and Ryan are newlyweds and celebrating their wedding. Kelly finds out a secret that has her reeling. As they manage to go on their honeymoon more and more secrets start to come out. A tragedy at home shakes both of them up. As they try to figure out what the next steps are more roadblocks come up and you ask do you truly know the ones you love?
Highly recommend this book!

I really enjoyed The Honeymoon by Gemma Roger’s. It was a fast paced thriller that kept me turning the page to find out what was going to happen next. I’m looking forward to reading more books from this author.
Thank you for the opportunity to review this book.

This was a fantastic read. Being a dog walker mysef, I related so much to Kelly!
Gemma has a very easy-breezy writing which I always love in an author. She never stalls the story with unnecessary details. It's a fast paced story, it flows very easily.
I thought for a second the book was based on the song "The Black Dog" by Taylor Swift. It fitted so perfectly and it described this story so well. It's like you can hear the song in some of the moments through Kelly's POV.
I'm not saying it's the greatest thriller ever made or whatever, but the difference between what I expected (due to the cover that gave me cheap vibes) and what I got, was tremendous.

Thank you netgalley and bold wood books for allowing me to read an early copy of ‘the honeymoon’

This book was all based around a couples wedding to in which the bride found out he cheated on there wedding day so she flew out to Crete on her own.

I found it to be a quick thriller read, but, it was just so basic and too many things going on at once, felt like there was nothing else to write so another ‘plot twist’ was thrown in to keep it going and even then the plot twists didn’t make me gasp. There’s a lot of spelling mistakes and sentences that didn’t make sense so found myself making up my own. I loved the romance part on behalf of nico and the main character, that was cute!

The Honeymoon was twisty and had sickening characters. Every decision that was made, I would have made the opposite. I guess that is how to make your own life a psychological thriller! I was abashed at the turn of events after returning from the honeymoon. Gemma Rogers is a magician, the way she wove the plots over multiple settings and situations. I was a real fan of this page turner and can't wait to read all of her books!

The story starts with the unluckiest bride ever - Kelly, who catches her groom with her best friend on their wedding day! Devastated she hides his passport, and goes on Honeymoon alone. Just when she thinks her situation can’t get any worse, groom Ryan turns up - with more than a few unwanted secrets to share….

Great novel! Gripping, twisty, utterly fabulous!!
