⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Honeymoon - Gemma Rogers

Started with a bang and didn’t let up!

When so much is thrown at the main character - you just have to know how things are going to pan out…..the pages literally turn themselves!

One extraordinary drama after another - suspense, intrigue, murderous thoughts…..it’s all there.

For me, I think this is Gemma’s best work to date - and I hope there is plenty more to come!

Thanks to NetGalley for my ARC.

I absolutely loved this book. It had me gripped from the first few pages and I couldn't put it down. I found myself sneaking in chapters while at work and when I was supposed to be sleeping. It was fast paced and kept me guessing how the plot would unravel.
Fantastic thriller!

Kelly goes off to Crete on honeymoon on her own after discovering her husband Ryan was cheating on her with her best friend Liza on her wedding day. Ryan soon follows and Liza and Liza's husband Bobby also turn up, having been invited by Ryan. The scene is set for tension between the 4 as secrets and lies are revealed. The drama continues after they return home with threats from shady and unscrupulous characters. This book is more domestic drama than thriller. There are some good twists and turns to hold the reader's interest and the short chapters make this an easy read. Overall I enjoyed it.

Easy to read, fast paced domestic thriller. If you like books with secrets, lies, cheating spouses, hidden agendas, travel domestic drama and some romance then you will love The Honeymoon. I flew through this one, sucked in from the first chapter. Especially after Ryan, Liza and Bobby landed in Crete I knew the drama on and it did not disappoint. Definitely a few good twists and a great ending. I love Gemma Roger’s books, can’t wait to read her next one!!

Thank you to Gemma Rogers, Boldwood Books, and NetGalley for an arc of this novel in exchange for my honest opinion.

TRUST NO ONE! Kelly and Ryan had a beautiful wedding. They begin celebrating at the reception with their family and friends. Everything is perfect until Kelly sees her new husband in the throws of passion with his best friend's wife, Liza. Yes you read that right. New husband is cheating on his new wife with his best friend's wife, Liza, who also happens to be Kelly's best friend. What could go wrong?! Kelly decides to still go alone and enjoy Crete, the place they picked for their honeymoon. After a few peaceful days of solitude in the sun, Ryan shows up and the gaslighting begins. Make no mistake, Ryan has some tricks up his sleeves and none of them are good, turning this paradise into the honeymoon from hell! Just when you think that's the worst of Kelly's problems, the story takes a swift and unexpected turn, which left my head spinning! Between all the lies and betrayal this is a dark and twisty novel. I did find some parts to be a little slow, but the pace picks up especially towards the end. There were also times when I wish that Kelly had a spine and would learn to stop trusting people who clearly shouldn't be trusted. It was definitely a "just one more chapter" and I could hardly put it down as the book came to a satisfying conclusion.

Great, twisty read! I flew through it as I couldn’t wait to find out how things were going to unravel. Just when you think that there couldn’t possibly be a more convoluted situation, there’s another twist in the story. Short, fast paced chapters made this a quick 2 day read for me. I’m looking forward to the next Gemma Rogers title.

Thank you Netgalley, Boldwood Books and Gemma Rogers for the eArc of The Honeymoon.

Having read a few of Gemma's books, I was really looking forward to The Honeymoon. This book is a singular POV from Kelly who on her wedding night, sees her best friend and Ryan, her new husband in a passionate embrace. Rather than marching over to them, Kelly decides to go to Crete on her own and hides her Husbands passport to delay him. What unwinds after this, has you thinking of various toxic methods of Ryan trying his best to get her back. What makes things so much more complicated is that her best friend, Liza and Bobby, her own Husband also arrive in Crete.

I feel that this is more of a domestic thriller with some psychological elements but a lot less than what Ive come to usually read from Gemma's books. The plot is medium paced, which I felt was consistent throughout the book. There is some good twists and turns and some good foreshadowing with the pay off at the end.

The main characters were all well developed, which to begin with is mainly Kelly and then gradually builds in Ryan, Liza and finally Bobby. Even though, I didn't really " bond " with any particular characters. They all have likeable and unlikeable characteristics, which I always find interesting.

This is a good domestic thriller, kept me engaged and I still enjoyed it even though I felt Gemma has written better books in the past

3 .5 stars for Storygraph, 3 stars for Amazon, Goodreads

Thanks netgalley for this book about so many secrets and a wedding of Kelly and Ryan, who after just getting married was in the arms of Kelly’s best friend.
Kelly was horrified and did not know what to do, the first thing she did was run to her bedroom tear her wedding dress of pack her bag including her passport, and hiding Ryan’s passport, and deciding to go on her honey moon alone.
Kelly got a taxi to the airport and hoped Ryan would not join her, as she then decided she wanted a divorce.
From then on more lies appeared from everyone,
The story got a bit slow in the middle but picked up when you found out who had been lying to her and it all was a total surprise.😦

This was a fast paced thriller to read.

On her wedding party night, Kelly walked onto her new husband cheating with her best friend.
Shocked and angry, she decides to go on her honeymoon on her own. But her husband decides to join her a few days later anyway. And more importantly, he doesn’t want to divorce.

It was an easy read, but I sometimes found the characters a bit annoying.

Thank you Netgalley.

I have read a couple of Gemma's other books and absolutely loved them, but this one didn't work for me.

Rather than a thriller, it was more of a domestic drama / women's fiction story, focused on the choices Kelly makes after finding her husband cheating with her best friend AT THEIR WEDDING! Can he sink any lower than that? Well, yes, actually!

The premise and the start of the book really drew me in, but it quickly became lacklustre and repetitive. I had high hopes for some huge twists, but when they came, they didn't blow my mind and felt quite flat. The characters were a little under-developed and Kelly seemed to be inconsistent in her actions, which made her character feel disconnected for me.

What I did like though, was Kelly's choice to hide her cheating husband's passport, flee the wedding and get on the plane to Crete without him - GO GIRL!

Sad that I didn't enjoy this one, but it definitely won't put me off reading Gemma's next book.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Honeymoon by Gemma Rogers is a fast-paced unputdownable domestic thriller! Definitely sucked me in straight away and oh my, oh my, my heart was racing like mad in so many chapters! We don't get heart-dropping twists here is more like constant suspense and nail-baiting options for us!
I loved the storyline! I loved how Kelly immediately took action without annoying 7 chapter thinking what to do. So it felt much more realistic. Bloody husband, of course, we hate him!

Kelly’s wedding day was supposed to be the happiest day of her life, but unfortunitelly she discovers her new husband Ryan can't keep his hands away from her best friend. If she thought that was the worst-case scenario, she was so wrong! The worst is waiting to come and she is absolutely not prepared for it!

Thank you, NetGalley and Boldwood Books

This is a quick, light-hearted domestic suspense about Kelly who catches her husband Ryan kissing her best friend on her wedding day. Although it was an enjoyable read, I felt it didn’t have the suspense of Rogers’ previous books. Perhaps it’s because there was a lot of detail and less pace, and as the characters are generally unlikeable, I didn’t feel a connection with them. Having said that, I always enjoy Gemma Rogers’ writing and look forward to reading her next book. 3.5

Thank you to Gemma Rogers, Boldwood Books and Netgalley for my advance copy.

Enjoyed this fun thriller from start to finish! It did seem a bit slow at times but still was enjoyable and the ending was great! There were a few parts for me that fell flat but still a strong, fun read!

This started out as a great domestic thriller. Honestly I just finished it and I can’t even remember their names. I guess that tells you that the good stuff ends at about 70% of the book. Once they get home, it just fell off for me. Too much debt talk and breaking legs until paying the loan shark. I was honestly getting upset that she kept helping him after all he did to her. Girlfriend, who cares what they do to him, he dug his own grave.
This is the second book I’ve read from this author and both I’ve rated as average.

The Honeymoon is a story focusing on Kelly, a bride that finds out her husband isn’t faithful ON HER WEDDING DAY!

Kelly is a likeable character. She's not realistic nor are the other characters but I didn't mind that much. The story starts out excellent but the twists towards the end kinda lost me. I did like the writing style and would read more from this author.

Wow Wow Wow Such a good book, lots of twists and turns, its amazing how one little lie can snowball, but ending ending with a question mark, THATS UNFAIR lol

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this arc. What did I just read?? Kelly is finally marrying her true love and she couldn’t be happier. Until she sees her groom hiding at the reception, kissing none other than her best friend. She panics, grabs her stuff and heads on her honeymoon. She can finally relax with her thoughts. Until her new husband shows up there. This one had me so mad at certain characters, and rooting for Kelly’s happiness. Definitely a quick, five star read!

I applied to read Gemma Rogers' The Honeymoon expecting a mystery or thriller, as it was marketed, but what I got instead felt more like a reality-show style of women's fiction. There was no mystery beyond what was already given away in the synopsis, and the so-called "thriller" aspect was too far fetched. The plot centres on Kelly, stuck on a honeymoon with her cheating husband, his best friend, and the other woman involved.

Kelly’s actions and decisions felt unrealistic from the start, and her lack of serious reflection on her broken relationship was hard to believe. The "big secrets" promised in the blurb? Not shocking or original at all. The twists I was waiting for never came.

The characters were frustrating and unlikeable, including Kelly herself, whose indecisiveness and poor decision-making made it hard to root for her. The writing itself was repetitive and clunky, lacking the polish I expected, and I found myself mentally editing as I read.

While the drama might appeal to some readers, it wasn’t for me. The twists felt unbelievable, the character development was weak, and overall, this felt more like a trashy domestic thriller than a mystery. I finished it in one sitting, just wanting to get it over with. Unfortunately, The Honeymoon was not what I had hoped for and left me disappointed.

Thank you NetGalley, Boldwood and Gemma Rogers for the opportunity to read and review.
Given this is not my type of book after all I will not be sharing my review on my blog and socials.
