*A Kiss to Wake* by Mimi Gunn is a suspenseful and emotionally charged romantic thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Louise Dubois’ journey to heal from a traumatic attack is complicated by the return of officer Gregory Band, her former flame, who pulls her into a chilling murder investigation that mirrors her own unsolved case. The chemistry between Louise and Gregory adds an emotional depth to the story, creating a compelling mix of romance and suspense. The investigation, with its eerie similarities to Louise’s past, keeps the tension high, while her internal struggle to trust Gregory again adds a layer of complexity. Though the pacing is sometimes a bit slow, the rich character development and the mystery’s unraveling make for a gripping read. Perfect for fans of romantic suspense with a strong, resilient heroine and a touch of intrigue.

AH! Big congrats to my friend Mimi on the release of her debut novel!

I received two separate ARCs for A Kiss to Wake (and I now own a signed paperback copy as well, plus the soundtrack) and this is quickly becoming one of my favourite romantic suspense series'. Louise Dubois is such a relatable and likeable character. Even though she has some trauma from a past attack, she is still one badass chick and she doesn't let that stop her. Gregory Band, "an old university flame", is now a police officer and he's working on a murder case that bears a striking resemblance to the attack Louise suffered. When the case brings them together, Louise and Gregory work together to try and put a stop to the murderer in Marda Loop... and may discover something else as well.

While I liked Louise, I LOVED Gregory. Can anyone say new book boyfriend?! I can't wait for the next book and to find out how their relationship progresses. Mimi is great at weaving in suspense and mystery, while keeping a romantic flair. Highly recommend, especially if you like authors like Devney Perry or Catherine Cowles.

Detective Gregory is perusing cold files when he happens upon a picture of someone from his past. Louise was the girlfriend from university who might just have been “the one” and now it looks like she might be connected with a current murder case he is perusing. They never caught the perp who attacked her. Even after the physical wounds were healed, Louise is still suffering from the psychological ones. When she and Gregory reconnect, their past baggage and present connection might be the cure for which she has been longing. But that baggage is very painful and when history repeats itself, it threatens to pull Louise back under.

But the Louise today is far different from the old Louise and she is willing to be brave. When she decides to join a dating app, I feared we would have another heroine who should be nominated for the Darwin Award. I was delighted to be proven wrong. I don’t want to provide any spoilers but any apprehension I might have had was turned on its head in a very satisfying way. By the end of the book Louise was no longer victim but was fearless. I am not sure just how the story will continue. Even though the search for a serial killer was the mystery to be solved in this one, the book was far more a romance than either suspense or mystery. We shall see. Four purrs and one paw up.

This small town (neighborhood) second chance romance with a side of murder was a very cute fall read. The characters were entertaining, especially meddling Georgie and Cosette. I found the dialogue to be a bit forced and choppy, but that could also be because this takes place in Canada? Overall it was a sweet and easy read and I am glad to know this is part of an ongoing series.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC.

I really enjoyed this story and it was a little different from the books that I normally read.

I thought that the book had a good storyline that was well developed and well written. It had a good flow to the story.

I enjoyed the characters and liked getting to know them as the book progressed - they worked well together.

I did find that the book was a little slow in places which stopped me giving it 5 stars but it was a good read overall.

It was a romantic story with a murder and a search for who is responsible, it was sexy in places too.

It is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended
