Loved the fact that this world is wrapped up with the world of Three Dark Crowns - it's one of my favourite series! Loved Champions of Fate, so was very excited to pick this up!
What a ride. I loved the first book, Champion of Fate, so I was very excited to get into Warrior of Legend.
It did drag a little for me, but I'm putting that down to my starting a new job, and then my daughter contracting hand, foot and mouth and having two weeks off school. Mild childhood illness, my ass.
Anyway! I was enjoying the story and seeing where the characters were heading and I was, you know, just pleasantly plodding along and then a character death just came out of left field and completely blindsided me and I was sobbing. I've cried at books before but wow, this took me out. It was just so unexpected so bonus points for that and for making me cry so hard I had to mute myself in the discord VC I was in so the others couldn't hear me crying.
There is a slight bit of gore in the book, so fair warning for that. I also had no idea that Three Dark Crowns was entwined so I'll be giving that a read as well!
A year after the disastrous Heroes Trial, Reed is fulfilling her destiny as the Aristene of Glorious Death. But her heart is still with Hestion and no number of distractions can help with that.
This is a good, solid fantasy with some excellent world building. I personally found it a bit hard to get through - I have no idea why, there's nothing inherently wrong with it - but fantasy lovers should definitely check it out
I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review
I wasn’t sure how book 2 would unravel and how the plot might carry on after book 1. I couldn’t of anticipated the growth, mistakes, turmoil and loyalty that would come.
I will say I truly feel sorry for Reed, she is a product of the order and the Elders use this to their advantage time and time again. Though they follow the will of their goddess, the elders do appear to pull the strings as they see fit.
This book we see many mistakes the main characters make and how it has cataclysmic consequences. They are led down a path that not all the characters will come back from the same, if at all.
I will hope and pray for a book 3 so we get a conclusion for all characters that feels like justice for what they’ve endured and sacrificed.
