This book was cute! I loved the radio station setting and both characters were fun and sweet. I will say I’m so shocked that in 2024, we still are using finding out someone is introverted as a major breakthrough plot line.

The book About Last Night by Christy McKellen begins with Radio DJ Lula celebrating her friend's birthday in a pub in the company of her best friend. But she is stressed because her job is in jeopardy since her boss at the radio station she works at wants her fired because of the favors she has denied him. She decides to have a drink or two to drown her sorrows, and her friend urges her to approach a guy, which she does. And that's how she meets Tristan Bamfield, who is in town to solve a problem in his father's company, then leave. He has just come from a failed relationship and is not ready for another one, but he can't keep his eyes off Lula. They start off as strangers who find themselves attracted to each other, and maybe things have started on the wrong foot. But they meet later in the same radio station, and who knows what will happen next? Find out in this book About Last Night by Christy McKellen.

The plot is great, with the consistency of the story being the most outstanding thing I liked about the book. The detailed description in terms of expressions and reactions of the characters makes the readers get absorbed in the story as though they are part of it. The characters are impressive too; I like them a lot.

I don't like the steamy part of the book appearing at the beginning of the book; I feel that it may make the reader's anticipation of the climax of the plot diminish. Also, as the story is very intriguing, I found it to be quite short.

I rate this book About Last Night by Christy McKellen 4 out of 5 stars for the above reasons.

I recommend it to those readers who love steamy romance books with a workplace romance setting. The readers will enjoy this one immensely.

This was a quick short read. That’s probably why there wasn’t so much character build and more of an insta love. The characters were already in love after a few weeks of knowing each other. It was pretty enjoyable but I won’t say that I’ll remember this book next month.
If you’re looking for a quick, office romance with spice and banter then this would be the book for you!

This was a quick and easy read. I wish it would have held my attention like I thought it would, but it didn't. I think the reason is because I'm not a huge fan of instalove, and they were throwing around the word "love" very fast. That's the only reason why I rated it a 3 ☆. The spice was on point, and I enjoyed that a lot.

This was a cute, easy, fast read. Radio DJ Lula Lazenby may be losing her job after she complained that her boss wouldn’t give her the Breakfast show when she wouldn’t sleep with him. She goes out with her co-workers the night before the meeting with the big boss and hooks up with a hottie. One problem, the big boss sent his son, and his son is the hottie she hooked up with. Tristian was supposed to get in and get out of London, but now he’s staying at the radio station. And working along side Lula proves to be difficult when she wants to keep it professional. He won’t be here forever, but he can’t seem to fight his attraction.

This is an enjoyable light read. The book had potential to be a lot more than that, but it didn’t take it one step further. I gave this book three stars for that, and because I really don’t care for insta love. Within a few weeks they were saying I love you to each other. I know there are some people that do that, and that’s fine. But in this book, everything seemed to be based off attraction. There were a few scenes where they talked about other things, deeper things like childhood, but the characters would have one small conversation about it, and then it was like it never happened.

I really love cinnamon roll MMCs and Tristian wasn’t really that. He started to be a little bit, but he fell short. He didn’t handle things well. I guess that’s reality, right? Not all men are cinnamon roll MMCs. However, this is a book and I want to get lost in a fictional male, not real life! Haha. I don’t know, I think I wanted more out of him. Then when we got more, it was way over the top.

So, this was cute. It was a quick read. The writing style was good. This would make a great palette cleanser book.

Radio DJ Tallulah Lazenby has essentially a one night stand with this hottie that she meets at a bar that she goes to with one of her coworkers. She has a big meeting the next day with the head honcho of the company she works for, Flash.
Well, it turns out that the hottie she hooked up with, Tristan, is the one who she ends up talking to. Tristan’s dad sent him in his place & Tristan tries to turn things around on Tallulah & act like she knew about him all along when she didn’t. He fires her but then realizes he made a terrible mistake and works hard to get her back at Flash.

“it's going to drive me crazy to never be able to have what I want.”
“I can't be your rebound woman, Tristan. I care
about you too much for that.”

The connection between Tallulah and Tristan is pretty much instant at the bar & it carries through the entire book. It could have been a lot more than what it was & that was a huge letdown for me. They were cute characters but I didn’t really see any character development or a plot either.
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, & author for a copy of this digital arc in exchange for my review.

About Last Night by Christy McKellen is a fun and spicy romcom that hits all the right notes for a quick, enjoyable read. The story follows Lulu and Tristan, whose hilarious dynamic and undeniable chemistry make for an entertaining workplace romance. Lulu’s introverted personality clashing with her attempt to fit into a more outgoing lifestyle is relatable, while Tristan’s presence adds drama and charm. Though the story feels a bit rushed and lacks emotional depth, the witty banter and steamy moments make it worth the read. If you’re after a short, light-hearted romance, this one’s a great pick!

I really enjoyed reading this book! There were a lot of laugh out loud moments with the main characters ,Tristen and Lula, and I really enjoyed how really rom-commy it felt throughout. It didn’t feel forced or like the author was trying too hard to make it romantic or funny. It felt like a very natural progression.

One of my favorite things was how the story focused on the main characters (duh lol) and was really to the point. There wasn’t any focus on anything other than the fact these two people had a one night stand and were now forced to work together. As the story moved there was more focus on backstory but it still kept true to the original story and didn’t try to deviate from that.

Definitely recommend.

There were moments I liked this and moments where it was underwhelming.
I really like our FMC, Lula. I related to her as someone who has to chat and put herself out there, even if she is an introvert. I love see her figure out how to stand up for herself and thrive in her job.
Tristan was OK.... I feel like he still needs to figure himself out before he can make things work with Lula and we didn't really get to see that. I wanted more from him.

In About Last Night, Lula meets Tristan at a bar and their instant-attraction leads to a one-night stand. But romance isn't in the cards, as Lula only finds Tristan at her business meeting the next day where he promptly fires here. This spicy workplace romance features forced proximity, opposite attracts and rivals-to-lovers tropes, told from both characters’ perspectives (in third person limited). Lula is a relatable lead–funny, shy, career-driven, romantic– while Tristan is charming, rich, and undeniably smitten. The writing is casual and fun, though the ending felt rushed and the characters could use more depth. Overall, it’s a light, enjoyable read, perfect for a quick escape or holiday romance.

📚 PRE-PUBLICATION BOOK REVIEW 📚

About Last Night By Christy McKellen
Publication Date: October 27, 2024
Publisher: Boldwood Books

📚MY RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

📚MY REVIEW:

About Last Night is a cute lovers-to-friends-to-lovers rom-com -- with a big dose of spice! If you're a fan of rom-coms in workplace settings, you're going to want to read this one ASAP!

Our career-driven female main character, Lula, agrees to go out for cocktails for a friend's birthday against her better judgment, as she has a big meeting at work the next morning that could determine the trajectory of her future as a radio DJ. Lula meets an unexpectedly charming and handsome stranger... And throwing caution to the wind, the two share a VERY spicy night together. The next morning, Lula arrives at work to meet with the executive tasked with determining her career's future -- and is shocked to find herself sitting across the table from last night's fling, Tristan.

This was a fun read, with moments of laughter and lots of spice. This is probably the spiciest rom-com I can remember reading - if you like your books spicy, you're in for a treat. Lula and Tristan were endearing main characters, and I found myself cheering for their forbidden workplace romance throughout the book. This was a fantastic will-they-won't-they read, with a HEA ending that is sure to make you smile.

A huge thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this advanced e-copy in exchange for my honest review!

Rated 3.5 Stars.
Overall I really enjoyed this book, it was a short and spicy romance. I enjoyed the main character Lula, she was determined to get what she wanted and was braver, I enjoyed her personality. Her love interest Tristan however wasn't my biggest fan. I liked him more as the book continued.
I enjoyed it being a work place romance and beginning with a one night stand.
It was a fun read and loved it being under 200 pages!

This was a really fun book. I enjoyed it a lot!

Radio DJ Lula Lazenby is typically quiet and reserved, but after growing tired of being cautious, she decides to let loose for a night, pretending to be someone else, “Louise.” She does things she normally wouldn’t, including spending the night with the charming Tristan Bamfield. However, she’s horrified when she later discovers Tristan is actually her boss’s son, who has come to the radio station with the intention of firing her.

The story also follows Tristan, who meets Lu in a London pub while preparing to fire a DJ, Tallulah, at his father’s station after allegations of harassment. Meanwhile, Lu faces a career-altering meeting the next day but decides to let off some steam, with Tristan happily joining her. This rom-com, perfect for a holiday read, is filled with humor and relatable characters. It was the first book by this author that I’ve read, and I’m now eager to explore more of her work. It had everything I look for in a romance.

Wow, this book is a total page-turner! The author did an amazing job capturing Lula's personality in vivid detail. I think so many people will connect with this book because it's just incredibly engaging. It's got the perfect blend of spice and drama. I can't recommend it enough!

Thank you, NetGalley and to the publisher for the ARC.

This book had a lot of components that made me interested. A big city? Check. Two characters with their own life and high-speed jobs? Check. A romantic story of this age? Check. Some spicy scenes to keep you interested? Check!
But somehow it didn't grip me as much as I thought it would have after reading the description.

What I liked was that the story was to the point, with the focus on the main characters.
That means that there was space for the charactersd to not be super flat, and show multiple sides of themselves.
We learn about their back stories and the things that shaped them, and how they still impact their actions today.
But even still, the storyline was incredibly flimsy, the characters acted rash and there was not a lot that made me interested in them.

Maybe the components I was looking for in this story have already been done so often that it is harder to have a story be compelling, either way this one did not convince me.
