This was such a thrilling read. Loved it so much. Very highly recommend it. A brilliantly plotted, amazing book. Do read this one.
I had a really hard time getting into this book. It started off so slow but sinister. I finally started it all over a second time to see what details I'd missed that maybe should have hooked me into the story, but unfortunately there wasn't any. I won't go as far as to say this book was terrible, but it certainly won't be winning any NYT bestseller either. The plot was inconceivable at best. The twisty turns were very awkward rather than smooth and revealing, like the author may have pieced the details together. This book very much read like a Scooby Doo mystery. Not very realistic or interesting. But I have read worse, so 2 stars for this one.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! There were unpredictable twists on what felt like every other page, keeping me engaged and excited from front to back. This is exactly what I want out of a suspense/thriller novel.
A good story but unfortunately it is far too slow paced to completely reel me in. There are a few good twists that revive the story in the second half so just stick with it.
Typical kindle unlimited type of thriller/mystery. It was good to read in one sitting. Each character kind of blended in with each other. I think if you’re snowed in during the weekend you can definitely finish this in the afternoon and enjoy it enough but you probably won’t ever think about it again.
This was a good book but I found it to be too predictable. The first half was very slow but the ending was good. At times I felt the plot was over the top and I found myself eye rolling quite a bit.
My first read by this author and I loved it. I couldn’t put it down. It’s full of twists and surprises.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion
Stealing away for a romantic break with her boss Finn..Alice is looking forward to roaring fires and cosy nights in the remote lighthouse they are staying but a knock on the door threatens to ruin all that. Faced with another couple who state they have also booked the lighthouse for the same weekend Alice and Finn have no option but to allow them in
But what these two couples don't know is one of them is not who they seem
I loved this story! I thought it was slightly too "grabby" in the beginning with every single chapter being a cliffhanger and what seemed like constant mystery on every side, but it ended up working really well together! I could've done with a little less "remember these people have secrets", referencing things the reader didn't know, but overall it was a good, quick win!
good mystery about a couple and staying in a house and the other couple there. kept me on my toes . good mystery and figuring stuff out.
This book started slowly but then the twists began . So many twists that had my head spinning trying to keep up. It developed into a gripping story .Well worth a read
Many thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read the ARC in return for an honest review
I tried to love this book, I hate to say, it just wasn't grabbing me. The writing is fine, I feel like I didn't get enough about the characters. I put it down, read another book, picked it back up and did finish. It just fell flat for me. I'm very much looking forward to more books from this author, as I really liked the 2 I read previously .
Thanks to netgalley, the publisher and the author for the chance to read this ARC.
I’m loving thrillers right now, but this one just wasn’t for me. I wasn’t a fan of the writing style nor the characters. Unfortunately it was a dnf for me.
Alice and her boss Finn plan to spend a weekend away in secret, when they will be staying at an airbnb at a remote location. Alice is taken aback when there appears to be a mix up with bookings and another couple show up claiming that they have booked the same accommodation for the same timeframe.
But while Alice has not been entirely honest about her plans for the weekend, neither has Finn. Perhaps they have each underestimated the other. So, how does the new couple fit into the story?
This is an entertaining psychological thriller with plenty of twists. The pacing could have been better, with the second half being noticeably more engaging. It gets 3.5 stars, and the final plot twist is worth waiting for - even if the storytelling does require some suspension of disbelief!
very thrilling! did not see the plot twist coming at all. the book kept my attention all throughout. the plot was very interesting and the characters were likeable. no complaints! will read more from this author
The first half of the book dragged on but the second half of the book kept me in suspense and was very good. I think if this author wrote the first half a little differently I would have rated it higher as the premise of the book was good.
Im here to announce I have a problem...
I am addicted to domestic thrillers.
It was the title that drew me in. I knew that I had so many books to read but what's one more? Look at this cover? The title? I was instantly enthralled and I really had that creeping in feeling of FOMO.
Triona Walsh, you got me
This book was FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC.
I will be shouting it from the rooftops.
I have zero regrets that my laundry went undone and my pooch went unfed (well maybe not that part)
Thrills, shrills and a few glances over your shoulder, this book delivers!

It was supposed to be the perfect weekend. Just you, me… and my chance at revenge. Until they arrived…
The fire crackles gently in the grate as my partner Finn fills my glass with red wine. Looking into his sparkling blue eyes, I feel a tug on my heart. Finn is my boss, and no one can know how hard we’ve fallen for each other. We thought this lighthouse keeper’s cottage on the wild Irish coast would be the perfect secret getaway. Then there’s a knock at the door…
A rain-soaked couple tell us that they’ve booked the house for the weekend too. I look to Finn, but he steps aside to let them in. I stiffen. This trip isn’t just a chance for Finn and me to fall deeper in love. Nobody can know the real reason we’re here. My life is hanging by a thread. I have no choice but to welcome the couple with open arms, offer them a drink, and tell them we’ll have this all sorted out by the morning.
Finn doesn’t know the real me, but it seems I don’t know him either.
This other couple is here for a reason, and one of us won’t be leaving this place alive…
This was an engaging read with great twists, but it definitely caused me to suspend my disbelief. The story centers on Alice and Finn, who rent an Airbnb type lighthouse in a secluded area, only to be joined by another couple who said there had been confusion with the booking and they were confirmed as well. It becomes quickly clear that all 4 of these characters have pretty big secrets that they are hiding.
None of these characters were all that likable but that doesn’t really bother me. It was the silly decisions they made that got to me, at times. I thought there were surprising twists throughout, but much of them felt unbelievable. Even the reasons for characters making life-changing decisions sometimes seems like a bit of a stretch. This all being said, the twists were interesting and I enjoyed being surprised. The end of the book ties up loose ends but is a little too clean to be realistic.
Overall, it’s a tense story that is fun to read as long as you are able to suspend disbelief. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Very far fetched but well written. I enjoyed the writing and the scenery is beautifully described. Just a tad too unrealistic for me. But an OK read overall
My first book read on NetGalley, normally I prefer having my books in physical copy when I read them but I enjoyed this one. Made me guessing until the end !
