When an outing with her daughter and friends turns tragic Detective Amanda Steele must solve a murder that hits close to home. Can Detective Steele solve the case while also dealing with issues that have arisen in her personal life?

The latest installment of the Detective Steele books is a wonderful roller coaster of a story. Carolyn Arnold has once again weaved a great story with ups and downs that will leave you asking for more.

Another series about a woman detective. Clearly I’m developing an obsession, and I’m not at all upset about it. Detective Amanda Steele is definitely going to become a favorite of mine. When she discovers her friend’s niece murdered she barely sleeps until the figured out who’s the blame.
I enjoyed walking through the whole investigation with Amanda and Trent. Seeing everything they do and all the steps they take to find the murderer is impressive to me. I love the way the detectives’ minds work and how they piece together what they learn to find the killer.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC of this book.

Book twelve in the Detective Amanda Steele series, I have been following this since book three and this is another solid edition to add to this engaging police procedural series.

Amanda is a dedicated and tenacious character who has a strong sense of justice for her victims and their families.

This book sees the team investigate a murder with a personal link, the story flows at a good pace though a multi layered plot that is intense as it is frustrating!

This may be book twelve in the Detective Amanda Steel series by super talented author, Carolyn Arnold but the storyline is just as dramatic as the previous books.

Amanda and Trent are tasked with finding their friend and colleague’s nieces murderer. There seem to be several clues but they don’t add up. Can Amanda decipher these clues and get to the bottom of whodunnit?

Carolyn is taking Amanda from strength to strength while still keeping her grounded with her adopted daughter. Can Amanda keep on top of her relationship with Logan? I was glued to this story - it kept me company while I’m in hospital. I highly recommend you getting your copy soon.

Her Deadly Rose: A totally gripping and unputdownable crime thriller (Detective Amanda Steele Book 12) by Carolyn Arnold

Fatal Homecoming

Hometown hero Michaela Glover has finally returned to Woodbridge for an ice-skating exhibition. As a Woodbridge native and Olympic hopeful, Glover is well known, and the arena is packed to watch her, and the others perform. Amanda Steele is also in attendance along with her daughter Zoe, Michaela’s aunt Patty, and retired police sergeant Katherine Graves. As the group make their way to Michaela’s dressing room after the performance Zoe’s excitement at meeting her idol is palpable, but when they get to their destination something feels off. Amanda discovers Micheala’s lifeless body prone on the floor with a bouquet of flowers and a note nearby. After quickly clearing out Zoe and the others, Amanda along with the help of her partner Trent Stenson begin to follow the clues. But who could want an aspiring athlete dead? On the surface it doesn’t seem like Micky would have many enemies, but the motive could be more personal. The duo digs into old friends and lovers along with estranged and absentee family members. With little adding up and each trail resulting in a dead end an overlooked lead is revealed that could crack the entire case wide open. When the pieces finally fall in place, Amanda and Trent are in a race against the clock to save not only a potential victim, but also a dear friend.
Her Deadly Rose is the twelfth installment in the Amanda Steele series of books by Carolyn Arnold. Picking up shortly after the close of The Wildfire Girl Amanda is ready for some much-needed down time to bond with her adopted daughter Zoe and catching an ice skating exhibition seems to be the perfect choice. But when the star skater turns up murdered, her break is short lived. With the victim being the niece of her dear friend and fellow police officer Patty Glover, Amanda must walk a fine line between personal and professional. This is not the first time she has taken the lead on a case that hit close to home, and it seems as if she would rather tackle these sensitive cases herself than allowing another officer to take the helm. Trent and Amanda put in long hours which allows Amanda space to process and gain perspective with her increasingly strained relationship with her boyfriend, Logan as well as her lingering feelings for Trent.
As far as cases go, Her Deadly Rose was probably one the less convoluted ones that Steele and Stenson have had to deal with in recent installments, but that does not make this story any less engaging. Arnold has a talent for telling the entire story of all her characters, both professional and private, so there was still a lot going on in the pages aside from the police work including a tense Steele Sunday dinner.
While Her Deadly Rose is part of a larger ongoing series, Arnold structures these installments in a way that the reader can pick up anywhere and not feel lost in backstory. When a prior plot point is mentioned, it is always accompanied by enough context to quickly catch the reader up without bogging down the overall pace of the current story. If you are a fan of strong female lead characters and police procedurals I would recommend not only Her Deadly Rose, but the entire Amanda Steele series.
Full disclosure – I was provided with a copy of this book by the author; however, I have voluntarily chosen to write a review. All opinions are my own.

It’s personal for Amanda Steele, but that has been happening a lot for her lately. Her friend’s niece is murdered and Amanda and Trent work tirelessly to solve the case. Amanda and Trent have a few clues but they don’t lead anywhere at first. it is their questioning of those involved that lead them down the path to solve the case.

I like that Amanda’s personal life, or in this case, lack of it, is an integral part of the book. Her beau, Logan, her partner Trent, who she has feelings for, her adopted daughter and her friends. It gives Amanda depth and a reason to connect with her. She’s flawed, do I need to mention Trent and Logan, and relatable.

It is written in a style that pulled me in from the start and kept me wanting more. It’s fast paced and suspenseful. There were plenty of suspects and it kept me guessing. Having not known the victim, I still wanted to know about her as her story unfolded.

Even when another body drops, it never really feels like anyone is in danger. This is definitely a crime novel and suspenseful but doesn’t venture into the thriller territory. It is the characters in the story that leap off the page and engaged me. Both the group from the series and the group from the case.

This series is on my list of favorites and I am always looking for the next installment. It can easily be read as a stand alone as the author does a great job of filling anything you need from a previous book. But once you get to know Amanda, you’ll want to read all about her.

Holy Cow I love this series! This starts with Amana and Zoe at an ice skating show to see Michaela Glover, a home town girl and rising star. When she doesn't appear after intermission, Amanda and Patty Glover, her aunt, go look for her. Sadly they find her dead in her dressing room.
and here starts our story. This was really good. I was caught up from the very start and hated that life got in the way that I couldn't read it straight through.
The killer was a surprise to me, but man hat an evil person!
There were some things with Amanda's personal life that I didn't care for and I am not sure I like where this is headed, but I really enjoy Carolyn Arnold's book and especially this series, that I will sang in there.

Read this! you will not be disappointed!

A little girls dream, watching a special ice skating performance that includes a Olympic hopeful, Michaela Glover. Detective Amanda Steele and Zoe are there to watch the show. After the show Zoe is ready with her flowers but it’s a different outcome when they find her Michaela dead in her dressing room.
Another great installment!

Her Deadly Rose, by Carolyn Arnold, kept my interest throughout the story. When the young and talented niece of a friend is found dead, Detective Amanda Steele has a deeper reason for finding the killer. When a suspect is also found dead her case is even more complicated. Amanda must get answers and quickly before more deaths.
Excellently written and not easy to guess the outcome. I finished the book quickly and was left with the thought of how deadly some minds are… not the author lol … the killer.
Thank you NetGalley and Publishers Bookouture for this ARC this is my honest opinion.

show with her daughter an and her friend. Sadly the night ended in tragedy. After the show, up-and-coming ice skater Michaela Glover was found dead in her dressing room by Amanda. Amanda and Michaela’s Aunt Patty had headed backstage so that Amanda’s daughter could meet the rising ice star.

Patty is devastated, and Amanda is numb. Another life lost. And a young life at that. The case begins slowly, gaining more and more traction, as Amanda and her partner Trent’s search for the killer reveals possible suspects for the murder. Meanwhile, there is more tension in this story than the case they are trying to solve. Amanda and Trent are working hard to push away the strong and undeniable attraction that is between them. They spend an insane amount of hours working together as they hunt down killers. More than that, things in Amanda’s home life just might be on shaky ground.

What an intriguing, multi-layered story. I felt like I was riding alongside Amanda and Trent as they were vigorous in their search for the killer. Then, Amanda’s emotions throughout the story were raw and real, and it was impossible not to connect with her. Having read this series from the very beginning, drawing close to Amanda and the issues that she faces in her personal life most definitely makes me a compassionate reader. Admittedly, feeling so strongly for Amanda put a lump in my throat more than once - in this book, and in some of the other equally strong books in this series.

I am eager to see where things go with Amanda going forward. She is a remarkable character with a strong sense of justice, all while never once losing her human side.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Young Michaela Glover was reaching the pinnacle of her career as a figure skater when she was viciously murdered. Who ended this young girls’ life and why? That is Detective Amanda Steele and her partner Detective Trent Stenson’s new case. Michaela was found in her dressing room with a threatening message written on a card. As they investigate, they learn that Michaela’s beverage was laced with peanut oil and she was deathly allergic to peanuts. Someone knew this about her and ended her life in a most gruesome way as the EpiPen she always carried, was missing. There are several suspects as they work to find her murderer. Was it another skater that was jealous of her talent, her brother who Michaela would no longer support, her agent who was having trouble confirming a contract for her, her mother who had left her when Michaela was young, her coach, her father who had recently made contact with her, or a former boyfriend? Amanda and Trent have their work cut out for them as Amanda is also dealing with the effect her commitment to her career has on her personal life. Another fine addition to this thrilling mystery series! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

It’s good to be back with some familiar characters in Prince William County, solving another mystery in Her Deadly Rose (Detective Amanda Steele) by Carolyn Arnold.

I feel for Amanda and her lack of a personal life. She has been torn between Logan, her live in boyfriend, and Trent, her partner. I wonder how strong her relationship is with Logan. Can it withstand the trials and tribulations he is put through. He spends more time with Zoe, her adopted daughter, than she does.

Amanda has come to the arena to watch Michaela Glover perform. Michaela Glover is an Olympic hopeful figure skater and she has come home to put on a performance. Instead of watching her skate, Amanda finds her lifeless body amongst rose petals on the floor of her dressing room.

Carolyn Arnold takes us on a step by step mystery tour. Who wanted Michaela dead? Before they can solve the first murder, another body drops. We have a multitude of suspects, but none seem to be the villain.

Her Deadly Rose doesn’t have the thrills and chills that ignite my imagination, but her mysteries do keep my mind churning, gathering clues, trying to put them together to solve the crime. There isn’t a lot of romance and family life takes a backseat to Amanda’s work. That’s what happens when you are a police officer. It’s not a nine to five, five days a week job. Family events are missed, which can cause a lot of conflict. Her novels are easy to relate to, because the realism makes the characters come to life.

We end with : “You and Trent are needed right away.”

“Just tell me where.”

Amanda and her friend Patty are the ones who find the skater dead after watching her successfull presentation. This will not be an easy case as all leads seem to reach a dead end quite fast and the pressure is mounting, the Chief wants someone behind bars! At the same time Amanda has to face her struggles in the relationship with Logan and her attraction to Trent. The story is full of action and it has an unexpected end. Great entertainment!
I thank the author, her publisher, and NetGalley for this ARC.

Another great book in this series. When a talented local ice skater is found dead in her room changing Amanda and her fellow detective Trent are quick to access the situation. This is personal for Amanda as the girl is known to her and pulls out all the stops to try and find the killer.
I have read nearly all of the books in thsi series now and eagerly look forward to the next book.

Attention grabbing from start to finish! Carolyn Arnold's Detective Amanda Steele series is always spot on with murder, mystery and angst. In the latest installment, a hometown figure skater is found dead and the race is on to see what happened to her and why. The suspense is spot on and the fact that it hits a little close to home makes for a closer knit factor to the case than usual as well. I always enjoy Amanda's spin on things and having that side of her personal life playing out behind the scenes too.

I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone who enjoys a thriller with a key detective who always gets to the bottom of the mystery and solves case after case while having a life outside of work once in awhile too.

an enjoyable novel. Amanda is in the audience of an ice skating competition with her daughter and her friend Patty. Patty's niece is the star of the show but when they go "backstage" to meet up with her it is to discover she is dead. Amanda and her police partner are the ones to investigate. Full of twists and turns.
