Her Deadly Rose is book 12 in the Detective Amanda Steele series by Carolyn Arnold.
Arnold has done it again - weaving a thrilling and engaging story.
I was completely engrossed in the story, hanging on to every word.
The twists kept rolling out one after the other keeping me in suspense and heading in all different directions. I was very surprised by all the clues as each one turned up another leading Amanda in a different direction. I couldn’t turn those pages fast enough wanting to know who the real culprit was.

Her Deadly Rose by Carolyn Arnold is the 12th book in the excellent Detective Amanda Steele series. This series has been an excellent from the very first book. All these books have been written well, especially as they always draw you in with all the twists and turns throughout. I love Detective Amanda Steele and her partner Detective Trent Stenson they work well together.

When champion figure skater Michaela Glover returns to her hometown of Woodbridge for a special performance, Detective Amanda Steele finally has a day off and is part of the cheering crowds. But when Michaela is discovered dead in her dressing room after the show, Amanda is the first to investigate the shocking scene.

There is no sign of foul play, and the room is overflowing with flowers from Michaela’s adoring fans. But Amanda’s heart stops at the sight of a few roses tied with black ribbon and there is a note that reads “You’ll be sorry”.
Then forensic tests reveal the ribbon was laced in something Michaela was deathly allergic to,

Amanda is certain this is cold-blooded murder and someone wanted her Dead!.

But, Why?

Now, desperate for a lead, Amanda dives into Michaela’s life to find out who could possibly want this sweet girl dead. She soon discovers that despite having a glittering future ahead of her, Michaela had a troubled past, and was surrounded by so many people who were jealous of her success.

WoW this book is so good I found it hard to do my housecleaning etc. I do love Carolyn's books and the way she writes.....She always draws me in........

I highly recommend this series and another 5 star read.

Big Thank you to NetGalley and especially Bookouture for my arc.

The twelfth outing for Amanda & Trent & another very well written page turner. The story flows effortlessly & the characters are well portrayed. I found myself drawn in from the prologue & was engrossed until the end. There were twists & turns which all kept me guessing. It could easily be read on its own but I’ve loved how the characters have developed throughout the series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a special copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own

For those that have not read the Detective Amanda Steele series…..I highly recommend starting with the first book in the series. There is so much back story you need to know about the characters.

Detective Amanda Steele and her partner, Trent, begin to investigate a very intriguing case about the murder of a well known ice skater. As they dig deeper into the life of the skater, they discover secrets about her personal life.
With so many suspects, Amanda and Trent are working overtime trying to figure out truths from lies.
Amanda also has her own personal issues to cope with. We are left wondering??????
Another thrilling and suspenseful read from author Carolyn Arnold.
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Her Deadly Rose’, book 12 in the Detective Amanda Steele series written by Carolyn Arnold, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Detective Amanda Steele is with her friend Patty and nine-year-old adopted daughter Zoe as they watch champion figure skater Michaela Glover’s performance. When Patty takes them backstage to meet her niece, Michaela is lying dead on the floor after ingesting a substance she has a deadly allergy to, and she’s surrounded by roses tied with black ribbon. Amanda and Trent are instructed to bring someone in and charge them, but although there’s no shortage of clues there’s nothing to tie them together and they want to make sure they have the right person.

‘Her Deadly Rose’ is an exciting action-packed thriller with two of my favourite characters Detectives Amanda Steele and Trent Stensen of the Prince William County Police Department. I’ve been totally involved in the story from page one and with the suspense, drama and surprising twists and turns I’ve been unable to stop reading as I’ve tried to decide who the killer could be. I’ve enjoyed reading more of Amanda and Trent’s private lives although Amanda’s relationship appears to be deteriorating just as Trent’s is improving. I keep hoping they’ll eventually get together romantically but that’s for another book. Thank you, Carolyn, for letting me read this wonderfully addictive thriller that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed and gets a huge five stars from me.

Her Deadly Rose by Carolyn Arnold is the 12th book in her Detective Amanda Steele series. As I have noted previously, I am a big fan of Arnold, having read most of her books, and I love this series, which continues with another great addition. Amanda Steele, our heroine, is a homicide detective in Prince William County, Virginia. Amanda is enjoying an ice-skating show with her daughter, Zoey, and her friend Patty; who is the aunt of local ice-skating celebrity Michaela Glover. After the show, they head to visit Michaela, and when no on opens the door, Amanda steps in to discover that she has been murdered.

There is no sign of foul play, but Amanda notices a bunch of roses, tied with a black ribbon and a note saying “You’ll Be Sorry”. Amanda calls her partner, Trent to come to the rink, and together they begin to dig into Michaela’s life, and who would murder her. Forensics discovers that Michaela was allergic to peanuts, which caused her death; someone added the nuts into her drink, and watched her die.
Amanda and Trent become buried in a complicated case with multiple suspects; as they learn more about Michaela’s trouble past. The further they investigate, there are themes of jealousy, manipulations, anger, grief, money and death. A short time after, Michaela’s agent was also found murdered. Amanda and Trent find information on the agent’s phone about being blackmailed. The deeper they follow the suspects and clues; it becomes apparent that Michaela was not close to her family, other than her aunt Patty. Amanda begins to put pressure on members of Michaela’s family to find the truths.

Amanda and Trent are a great team, and I like them together. Amanda is a great detective, very strong, independent, and always able to solve any case. Amanda worries about her daughter, Zoey, because she always busy on a case. Her relationship with Logan, begins to cause problems, especially with her always busy solving crimes. I also enjoy the various police team that we get to see in coming up with important clues.
What follows is an exciting, suspenseful, intriguing, tense mystery, that kept me unable to put the book down, as this was a fantastic thriller. To say too much more would be spoilers. Her Deadly Rose was a fantastic crime thriller, that was another gripping addition to the Detective Amanda Steele series. It was a compelling, engrossing, intricate suspenseful plot. Another wonderful police procedural, with great characters, edge of your seat thriller, with some twists and surprises at the end. Her Deadly Rose was once again so very well written by Carolyn Arnold, which is the norm for this author; as I am loving this series. If you like mystery thrillers, police procedural, then you need to be reading this series.

This follows the life of Amanda plus her boyfriend, partner, daughter and friends and colleagues. This could be read as a standalone as enough prior information is given but it will be richer for reading the whole back story and the ending will make a lot more sense and be more emotional.

The crime itself is really interesting and explores the pressure of wanting to be an Olympic star and the impacts it has on those associated.

A captivating read and it kept me engrossed and it was definitely a one session read for me. I cant wait to see what happens next.

Her Deadly Rose by Carolyn Arnold is a highly recommended investigative thriller and the twelfth book in the Detective Amanda Steele series.

After her special performance in Woodbridge, Virginia, champion figure skater Michaela Glover is discovered dead in her dressing room. Penny Glover, Michaela's aunt, Amanda, and her daughter Zoe were all attending the show and they were the ones who discovered her body. After a brief look at the room, Amanda immediately suspects foul play and calls her partner Detective Trent Stenson to set the investigation into motion. Once the team begins to collect evidence it becomes clear Michaela was murdered.

Amanda and Trent must look closely at Michaela's life to try and uncover who could have been responsible for her murder. She had a troubled past and there are clearly people who could be culpable. The discoveries and clues initially uncovered in the investigation lead to several suspects. The complexity in the case increases with each new revelation as the clues are followed logically to another line of questioning.

Even though it is part of a series, it can be enjoyed as a stand alone novel too. You may not have all the background information on the lives of the characters, but you can still appreciate the plot. There is enough basic background information to follow along.

This well-written, fast-paced, engaging police procedural will hold your attention from start to finish. Thanks to Bookouture for providing me with an advance reader's copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary and expresses my honest opinion.

The review will be published on Barnes & Noble and Amazon.

Detective Amanda Steele book 12.

I was hooked from start to finish. Who would want a young up and coming Olympic hopeful dead? That's the question facing Amanda and Trent in this fast paced thriller. As usual Amanda finds herself torn between finding a killer and spending time with her young daughter. Loved it.

The girl’s lifeless body lies next to a scattered bouquet of crimson roses, the petals around her head like tiny pools of blood. Gripped in her hand is the note that came with the flowers, sent by someone who wanted her dead.

When champion figure skater Michaela Glover returns to her hometown of Woodbridge for a special performance, Detective Amanda Steele is part of the cheering crowds. But when Michaela is discovered dead in her dressing room after the show, Amanda is the first to investigate the shocking scene.

There is no sign of foul play, and the room is overflowing with flowers from Michaela’s adoring fans. But Amanda’s heart stops at the sight of a few roses tied with black ribbon and a note that reads “You’ll be sorry”. And when forensic tests reveal the ribbon was laced in something Michaela was deathly allergic to, Amanda is certain this is cold-blooded murder.

Desperate for a lead, Amanda dives into Michaela’s life to find out who could possibly want this sweet girl dead. She soon discovers that despite having a glittering future ahead of her, Michaela had a troubled past, and was surrounded by people jealous of her success.

When someone close to Michaela is discovered brutally murdered, Amanda is terrified there could be yet more innocent victims to follow. Can she uncover the twisted killer’s identity before they strike again?

Detective Amanda Steele is taking a rare day off - to take her daughter, Zoe, to watch an ice skating show. Amanda's friend's niece, Micky, is the star attraction. However, Micky is found murdered in her dressing room shortly after intermission, and Amanda is leading the investigation. With Trent at her side, Amanda beings to search for clues. What's apparent is that Micky came back to her hometown reluctantly, and she was estranged from her parents and brother. Her agent and coach are also making Amanda's spidey senses tingle. In addition to the case, Amanda is finally ready to deal with her relationship with Logan - will they or won't they be together in the long run. Ms. Arnold has brought the character of Amanda Steele so far - I'm anxious to see what she does with her now that her home life appears settled. Thank you to Bookouture for an advanced reader of this book - the opinions expressed are my own.

12th book in the Amanda Steele series and author Carolyn Arnold has wrote another amazing story. Couldn’t put this book down. This series is one of my favorites and am looking forward to see what is next for Amanda in both her professional and personal life. Thanks Bookouture and Netgalley for my arc.

Amanda is one of the first to come across her friend’s dead niece, and it doesn’t take long to figure out that she’s been murdered. Not long after, another person close to the victim is discovered dead as well. With then help of her partner, Trent, they examine every piece of evidence to figure out who the culprit is before they strike again. I normally zip right through any of the books in the Amanda Steele series, but this one took me a while. The storyline was a little slow and seemed to be less developed. I would also have liked to have more of the Trent/Amanda relationship examined. Overall, I did enjoy the book, but not as much as the others, and am looking forward to the next one.

Another fast paced, completely addictive crime thriller from Carolyn Arnold.
Amanda, on a rare Saturday off , is with her daughter and friends at an ice show, when the star of the show is found dead in her dressing room. As Amanda and Trent start to dig into who could have done this to Mick, lots of secrets come to light, and soon they have many suspects but no hard evidence. The clock is ticking when the victim's agent is found dead as well. Who would benefit from their deaths?
As always, Carolyn Arnold weaves together a plot that hooks you from the start, and keeps you turning the pages all night. I love the dribbles of the detectives personal life she disperses throughout the story. An absolute must read.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This is another good read in the Amanda Steele series, although I would recommend starting with book one for character information. it is well written, fast paced and quite engrossing. The plotting was interesting, there were a few twists and the character development is good. I felt the ending was wrapped up just a bit too quickly but it left me wanting more and looking forward to the next read. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

Many thanx as always to NetGalley, the publishers and the author for allowing me to read and review this book. This has an interesting cast of characters that carry the story along a nice pace and create depth to the story. Great plot and I found myself filling an afternoon reading this in one sitting as I found it so enjoyable.

While trying to enjoy a day off at a show with her daughter, Zoey, Detective Amanda Steele finds herself in the middle of an investigation when local celebrity Michaela Glover is killed in her dressing room. Thrown into a complicated case with tons of suspects and not very many tangible leads, Amanda finds herself once again losing ground in her personal life when her career calls.

As per usual with this series, I absolutely loved this one. It's so hard to keep things fresh when you have a series set in a relatively small town, but having a figure skating showcase come through town added a unique dimension that made the book very distinctive from the rest of the series and also from most other books in the genre. I really enjoyed the way the case evolved and the element of personal involvement that made it feel important without making it seem too unrealistic for Amanda to remain on the case.

The only thing I didn't love about this one is that the prior book ended at a pretty major crossroads for Amanada's personal life and instead of picking up where that left off, this book took a while to give you a hint and how it went. That being said, I loved the way it was ultimately resolved, which was sad but realistic. I also thought the story line with Trent's personal life was interesting, though I was hoping for a different outcome. Still- and I know I say this in every. single. review about this series but it remains true- the Mulder & Scully nature of Amanda & Trent's relationship keeps me HOOKED in a big way. I just absolutely love them so much no matter how their story ultimately ends.

Carolyn Arnold continues to bring suspense, solid police investigation, action, and intense moments in her latest book, Her Deadly Rose. It’s the twelfth book in the police procedural and crime thriller featuring Detective Amanda Steele and her partner Detective Trent Stenson. The setting takes place in and around Woodbridge in Prince William County, Virginia.

Figure skater and Olympic hopeful Michaela Glover returns to her hometown for a special performance. Amanda, her daughter Zoe, and Michaela’s aunt, Patty Glover, are part of the cheering crowd. After the show, Michaela is found dead in her dressing room and Amanda shifts into detective mode.

While there’s no immediate sign of foul play, a threatening note is found. When forensic tests reveal that items were laced in something Michaela was allergic to, Amanda and Trent start their investigation into Michela’s life.

Expecting perfection from herself, Amanda doesn’t get much down time and has zero hobbies. She’s resilient and has an internal compulsion to find answers and obtain closure for the victims’ loved ones. Amanda’s flaws and struggles make her seem realistic. Trent is loyal, funny, and always has Amanda’s back. He grounds Amanda when she needs it and is often the voice of reason.

Once again, a dark and chilling prologue grabs readers’ attention. The descriptive narrative is written in a style that draws you in and rapidly keeps you turning the pages. With several suspects, a twist or two, some action scenes, and well-developed characters, readers of police procedurals and crime thrillers will likely embrace this series. Themes of jealousy, grief, death, manipulation, understanding others, and relationships are woven into the storyline.

Overall, this novel is an engaging, engrossing, and solid police procedural. I can’t wait to find out what is next for Amanda and Trent. This series is best read in order to fully understand the backstories of the main characters.

Bookouture and Carolyn Arnold provided a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own. Publication date is currently set for October 18, 2024.

Amanda is at a ice skating show with her daughter when murder happens. She immediately starts the process of finding out why someone would want to kill promising ice skater, Michaela. She and her partner Trent start digging into Michaela's life and find a multitude of people that are suspects. They discover her childhood was worse than what they thought and that she was hiding a secret. It is a fast paced book with lots of twists and turns to lead you in directions where you think you've figured it out. The ending is much sadder than I expected. My only negative is that Amanda doesn't seem to know what she wants as far as a relationship and despite her past trauma, she is more interested in work than time with her daughter. However, the murder mystery is well done and will have you reading late into the night.
