A young woman's body is discovered early one morning. The race to find the killer intensifies when another woman is reported missing...
Her Last Walk Home is the 14th book in the DI Lottie Parker series of police procedurals set in Ireland. There are no spoilers about Lottie's past cases but her personal circumstances have developed over the series.
A young woman goes out for a date but never returns home. Her body is found and a murder investigation launched but another young woman is already missing. There are interesting juxtapositions with Lottie and her own family circumstances which makes the case more personal for her. Lottie and her lover Boyd have some personal issues to resolve. They want to progress with their relationship but their family situations make it tricky. Then they find another body!
The majority of the book focuses on Lottie and her investigation. But some chapters show the victim and perpetrator, both of which adds significantly to the tension. We also see the victims' families and there is a subplot about child neglect which is highly emotive. I found the ending a little confusing as a lots of strands seem to pull together at once.
I actually listened to the audio version of this book and really enjoyed the experience. The narrator does a good job with bringing the text to life and I liked the Irish accent.
Her Last Walk Home is an enjoyable police procedural and I like the development of the characters over the series.
Her Last Walk Home by Patricia Gibney is another gripping installment in the DI Lottie Parker series. Even though I haven’t read all the books in the series, I did read book 1 and enjoyed it, and I didn’t feel like I missed anything jumping into book 14. Lottie Parker continues to shine as a leading female in law enforcement, embodying resilience and depth, which adds to the appeal of this crime thriller.
Michelle Moran’s narration brought the story to life with skill and nuance, enhancing the experience. The plot is fast-paced with many moving parts, and Lottie's personal life and her complex relationship with Boyd are seamlessly woven into the case she’s working on, adding a layer of realism and connection.
The book may have a high chapter count, but don’t be alarmed—it’s a quick, engaging read or listen. Many thanks to Bookouture Audio for the advanced copy of the audiobook! This installment is a must-read for fans of crime thrillers and strong female detectives.
This is the 14th installment in the Detective Lottie Parker series by Patricia Gibney. One young woman turns up dead and another goes missing. Lottie and her team set off a detailed investigation which leads to an unexpected connection between the two girls. What will it take to catch the killer before more women disappear? This book is told as an omniscient narrator so you hear parts of the story from many different perspectives throughout, including the killers. There were multiple characters and storylines going on and it was sometimes difficult to keep track of who was who and make the connections between them. It can be read as a stand-alone, however, I don’t know if I would recommend it. I do think it would have helped to have read some of the previous books in this series first to be more familiar with the main characters and their relationships. The book was also a little long and dragged at parts. I listened to the audiobook version and the narrator was excellent and easy to listen to with her Irish accent, but I still found myself getting confused between the characters. The twist at the end was a little farfetched but parts of the story and how it played out were entertaining. This was just an okay read for me but I do think the writing was good and I would have enjoyed it more having read some of the earlier books in the series. I will likely put those books on my TBR now. Thank you to NetGalley, Patricia Gibney, and Bookouture Audio for the gifted ARC audiobook recording in exchange for an honest review.
Number 14 in the series which finds characters past and present interconnected. Interesting to follow how the police work in Ireland. Storyline will hold your interest.
DI Lottie Parker is back again. This time Lottie has to solve the murders of two young women and a young man in the small Irish town. Two women, seemingly unconnected are abducted while walking home from a night out. When one turns up dead, another missing and an unidentified emaciated woman is found in a field, can Lottie solve the murders in time to rescue the missing girl?
This is the second of these books I’ve read. This one is much further down the series but works just as well as a stand alone book. I really enjoy the mix and breadth of characters and the fact I’m kept guessing until the end. Thanks to netgalley for the arc.
I really have liked this Lottie Parker series and this one didn’t disappoint it started off hooking me in right away and as the story progressed it just got better and better. This had action and twists as well as it felt like an SVU episode which is one of my favorite shows so I really enjoyed this book.
Possibly not a series to jump into the middle of. I was quite bored and not reaching for the book to find out what happened next. the interplay between the characters suggested that prior knowledge of their history would have been beneficial. The investigation side of the story was slow. The narration needed to be on 1.5x speed it was so dull.
Fast paced thriller with multiple point of views! . So many character to keep up with and it could get confusing at times if you weren’t paying attention. You definitely need to have a grasp on this series before jumping to book #14. I didn’t care for the narrator much. I was definitely trying to guess who the killer/killers were. I would definitely read more of this series.
Audio Book Review - Michele Moran has this character nailed! It is a wonderful "whodunnit" series that I welcome every time one is available! DI Lotte Parker is such a true to life personality which makes it so much more interesting to invest your time in.
The story and twists will have you questioning humanity time and time again, with the most innocuous character always being the executioner!
I don't know how she does it,but Patricia never fails to give life to her books. This is #14 of the Lottie Parker books and the longevity of this series is a testament to how much people love her/them.
As usual there's a body,a young woman is found dead in the early hours having taken a lift with a man. The baby carseat in the back put the victim at ease,as was his intention. Her distraught parents are not alone in their grief, when the killer strikes again taking another young woman's life. Lottie discovers these murders weren't random, the killer targeted these girls. She needs to catch this predator now.
As always we don't just get a run of the mill detective read,we have a front row seat to Lottie(and her teams)personal lives...which I adore! It gives everyone more depth and personality..and like I've said before you just feel like you know these people..that they are actually real!
I listened to this on NetGalley shelf and the narrator Michelle Moran is Lottie for me. She nails it every time.
I am never disappointed with a Lottie Parker book. I was introduced and then missed several books, but I would say that the author provide enough "back story" that if you have missed the previous books that you still should be able to follow the series.
Lottie is trying to solve the issue of women being found dead, some reported missing and some not missed at all. At the same time strange things are happening to some of the "suspects" in the disappearance of the women. Are all the events connected or separate, and if they are connected, how do they tie together? While Lottie is trying to piece together the circumstances to see if they are connected, she is also dealing with an aging parent and the idea of having a blended family, and a daughter who may be headed for heartbreak
As with most of the Lottie books that I have read, a lot of what is going on now is tied to the past, and we are given a glimpse into a killer, that seems to be excited just by being cruel. I am always impressed with how well we get an idea of the local flavor and how things work in the Garda operates.
The story also have a foreboding, so I look forward to other installments to see how everything turns out.
I highly recommend!
This is a fear every woman has experienced at some time in her life. Your walking home alone and you feel like your being followed. We can all relate but for the vast majority of us we make it home safely but it's the "what if?" That makes this book so compelling. The " it could have been me".
A fantastic crime novel by a fantastic writer
Her Last Walk Home (Detective Lottie Parker #14) by Patricia Gibney

Her Last Walk Home is the 14th book in the Detective Lottie Parker series by Patricia Gibney. This book can be read as a standalone mystery or as part of the series.
The narration by Michele Moran was incredible! She does an incredible job giving each character a voice and bringing the story to life!
I absolutely loved this book! Detective Lottie Parker has a lot on her plate and I think that makes her so relatable! (I love how the author really developed Lottie and gave her depth, so you could actually feel how she felt and understand her actions.) I think she has become one of my favorite book characters!
This book was incredible! The story was well developed and vibrant. There were so many twists and turns and secrets to try to unravel. The mystery was laid out and filled with layers. As each new piece of the puzzle was unveiled I found myself on the edge of my seat hungry for more! I love these characters so much! I can't wait to return with the next book!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
4 stars.
I would recommend this book. The characters are well defined and the story is interesting. I don't like the narrator very much as she sometimes forgets to adapt her voice to the person who is talking, which gives men speaking with women voices and vice-versa. The transitions from one scene to another is also not clearly defined and I had to rewind several times to understand what was going on. Nevertheless, I can’t wait to start the next book in the series.
I have only read the first book in this series so although this does work as a standalone, I feel like I'm missing out on the connection to the characters that I would have gained by reading the while series.
That said though, the plot is tense and dark and I was hooked from the start, with the discovery of a young girl's body and another one going missing soon after. I found Lottie's boss, the superintendent, very unlikeable and i could sense Lottie's frustration as she battled to catch the killer before the body count went up. I felt she took out much of her frustration on her team and this made for an interesting twist with her work partner also being her romantic partner.
I listened to the audiobook which was well narrated by Michele Moran, however I did get confused at times with who I was listening to as there were multiple POVs. The ending was unexpected - `i definitely didn't see that coming!
4 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Patricia Gibney and Bookouture, for an ARC in return for an honest review.
Another book to feed into my newest obsession of police procedurals. This is my first book in the D.I. Lottie Parker series. It was interesting to read about detectives/inspectors in Ireland. I haven’t read any that weren’t US or England before this one. There was definitely a lot going on in this book, and even though it can technically be read as a standalone, I wanted more backstory of the detectives and Lottie’s family and relationship.
I was sucked into this one quickly, as the bodies were piling up. I needed to know if the murders and disappearances were connected, or if it was all a coincidence. Was there a serial killer on the loose?
Lucky for me, I had this one in both digital and audio so I didn’t have to put it down for long. I liked the narrator’s accent and Michele did a good job portraying each character.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my audio and digital copies of this book.
TW for domestic violence with a male victim, torture of a captive (similar to the DV descriptions), and mentions of rape.
These books are so good. I have gotten different ones throughout the series as audiobook ARCs (books 1, 12, and 14), and this book (14 in the series) is by far the best one. While it is similar in tone and darkness, it is also a more better crafted mystery than book 12 was. In a long series like this, things can get formulaic and easy to solve, while I did figure out who the culprit was early the writing in this book had me second guessing myself until they are finally revealed.
My only issue with this book is similar to my problem with book 12, and may still be an audiobook versus written book issue, in that sometimes it's hard to tell which character you are with. I will say this critique is minor, and is a testament to how well done the writing from each character's perspective is. You can't tell who you are with because the author does such a good job of diving into each of their minds that it feels fluid as you transition from one character to another. You can figure out who you are with pretty quickly, because their motivations and thoughts are all different, but it can take a second occasionally.
This book is very well written, I deeply enjoy following DI Lottie Parker, and her family and relationships always give this series a little extra umph. I want to finish the whole series in order one day, these are re-readable for me because the characters are so nice to spend time with.
I'd recommend this to anyone who likes a more realistic mystery, with the caveat that there is a lot of psychological thriller elements to this book. I'd also recommend it to folks who like true crime and psychological thrillers.
Having read a previous book from this series I was aware of most of the characters. There were a few new ones since my last book, but that did t affect my enjoyment of this one. So I feel it could work well as a stand-alone if needed
(I am certainly going to go back and read the books I’ve missed though)
Once again we meet Lottie Parker and her team as they investigate a murder and a disappearance.
Young mum Laura, has been found murdered. A body is discovered in the show home of the local housing development and another young woman has gone missing. Are these case linked and if so how?
We follow the team as they investigate we learn a little more back story about some of the main characters and follow along as Lottie solves the case .
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this title and am looking forward to going back and reading the ones I’ve missed along with future books in the series
With a chilling start in the 14th book in the exceptional D.I. Lottie Parker series, Laura, a young mother with a four-year-old son is found murdered. Before long, Shannon, a second victim, is also discovered. Lottie gives her all to find justice for these victims, as well as to prevent any further murders from occurring. It is undeniable that the two murders are connected.
Meanwhile, there is drama on Lottie’s home front as well, as her mother is showing early signs of dementia. Also, Lottie’s partner Boyd is adjusting to being a full-time father to his young son Sergio. So with Lottie and her team being incredibly busy, and the dynamics changing in her family, an underlying tension grows between Lottie and Boyd.
Although I all but inhaled this book as soon as the ARC became available, I just had to give it a reread by way of an early audiobook release. The experience of listening to this as an audiobook was well worth the time invested.
Patricia Gibney delivers a powerfully crafted story with multiple points of view while Lottie navigates the difficulties of the tragic case involving several murders, her home life, and the POVs of the victims and suspects. Might be a lot to keep track of, but for me, it kept me riveted to the story. I can imagine Lottie as the lead role on a television crime drama because of all the dynamics she faces in her career and her personal life.
This book had it all, including excellent pacing and a dramatic storyline which kept my emotions involved. Factor in compelling characters, and this book was impossible to put down, even with a second read, barely two months later.
I was excited to discover that this series by Patricia Gibney has been translated into other several languages. So far I found Hungarian, Spanish, Castilian, Czech and German! In fact, I clicked the buy link for German and the first 13 books are in the series are on Kindle Unlimited, as I’m sure this 14th book will be as well. Now, this might not be the case for all languages, but be sure to click the link above to find out.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
Her Last Walk Home by Patricia Gibney is a gripping crime thriller that kept me hooked from start to finish. As the 14th book in the Detective Lottie Parker series, it still works well as a standalone, so you don't need to read the previous books to enjoy this one. The story follows Lottie as she investigates the murder of a young woman and the disappearance of another, with plenty of twists and turns along the way.
I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator, Michele Moran, did an amazing job bringing the characters and tension to life with her voice and Irish accents. The multiple points of view added depth to the story, but at times, it was a little hard to keep track of them all in the audio format. Still, the suspense kept me engaged, and I was surprised by the ending. Overall, a great read for thriller fans!
