A fast-paced, gritty book about the criminal underworld in Glasgow. Trigger warnings for people trafficking, paedophilia, enforced prostitution and drugs. The book follows two mothers, Cheryl's only son has been killed when he made a mistake in his work for the gang of people smugglers involved with prostitution. She is devastated and it appears that her husband, who has lured Dean into the business, was involved in his death. She is determined to make those involved pay. In her eyes, it is another gang of criminal run by Janey Halloran. After an attempt to kill the family in a road accident, which results in hospitalization, Cheryl starts to look at other ways to get revenge, her husband wants her to concentrate on the grand-daughter Molly-Rose who has previous escaped from attempts to traffick her abroad.
There are lots of twists in the plot, plenty of violence and also sadness. The descriptions of the treatment of the prosttuted young girls and boys are graphic at times. A lot of the story is told from the point of view of the grieving mothers, Janey and Cheryl. I read the book within the day, needing to know what happened and was definately not disappointed, even though it does not always make easy reading.
Thanks to Net Galley for a great read
A shocking conclusion. Reading this I thought I knew for sure how this one would end and I couldn't have been more wrong.. Read this mystery and enjoy the ride
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is marked as a standalone BUT it does feature characters from the previous book, you can read this as a standalone but I absolutely recommend reading "Two Sisters". Cheryl Davidson is a woman on a mission, her son has been murdered, she blames her husband and his boss, if it wasn't for him/them Dean would still be alive. She doesn't just blame them, she blames Janey and her grand daughter Molly Rose and they are the full focus for her revenge. How do you get close to a female gangster type? Cheryl has a plan in place and she will get her revenge and take all of Janey's family down.
Guys this one, like the previous has some really shady ugly awful characters, there is people trafficking and all the abuse that goes with it, drugs, violence, murder, it is a full bag! Janey is reeling and still trying to recover after being run off the road, the love of her life is in a coma, one daughter gone, another in rehab and Molly Rose it trying to get back to normal. A new threat is coming, they are looking over their shoulder constantly trying to figure out who is after them.
The book is quite fast paced, there is always something going on, some skulduggery, revenge plan. In amongst that and themes of recovery we have Cheryl who is slowly falling apart, torn up by her grief and driven by her rage and thirst for revenge we follow her as she pursues justice for her son.
The depths of depravity, people using and abusing others for profit and getting their kicks, despite it being fiction I think because you know stuff like this goes on in parts of the world, you are hoping for retribution, 4/5.
I read this over a couple of days. Alex Kane never fails to impress, with her gangland crime books.
A mother will do anything for her child and this is the backbone of this book.
The Gangland Queen of Glasgow does it again!!
I’m already looking forward to your next book.

Oh my word what a gripping book. It dragged you in and didn't let go until the end. I flew through it and couldn't;t wait until the next chapter. i loved the character s
Especially Janie who is a gangland boss. She's a tough cookie but knows when to punish anybody and when not.
This is the one most outstanding in the series.
It starts with Cheryl Davidson, her husband Leo, and the son she adores Dean.
when Dean gets murdered she vows to find the culprit and make them die in agony, She mixes with the vilest of people to find out what happened to her son and ordered the hit.
This book has it all—human trafficking, Gangland bosses and much much more.
You won't be able to put it down., I thoroughly recommend it and will tell you you'll be entering a ride on a roller coaster.
Well I’m very late to the party for this series. I did not realise there are actually two books before this one Janey, and Two sisters. Although I haven’t read these I throughly enjoyed this book and you can definitely read it as a standalone. That being said I’m going to be catching up with Janey and her family in the other books in the very near future.
If you love gangland drama then this a book for you. It has a bit of everything in there, and lots of twists you don’t see coming. I have read other books by Alex and I’ve never been disappointed. I highly recommend this book if this is the genre for you.
Janey is back, and this marks the thrilling final instalment in this series! It stands out as one of the best series I've encountered in quite some time. The story is set against the gritty backdrop of Glasgow, immersing readers in a compelling narrative that intertwines themes of heartbreak, human trafficking, and moral complexity.
The plot is masterfully constructed, with a fast-paced storyline that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The characters are vividly drawn, ranging from deeply sympathetic protagonists to ruthless antagonists, including unforgettable gangsters who add an extra layer of intrigue and danger to the tale.
Alex Kane has proven themselves a masterful writer of this genre, seamlessly blending tension and emotion while crafting rich, multi-dimensional characters. Each instalment has been a rollercoaster of emotions, and this conclusion brings everything together in a satisfying and thought-provoking way.
I wholeheartedly recommend diving into the entire series; it’s an investment that will not disappoint. The finale ties up loose ends while still leaving readers with a sense of longing for more adventures. If you appreciate gripping storytelling that combines action with deep emotional resonance, you’ll want to explore this remarkable saga!
This opened up a whole new trope for me!! Gangsters??? Yes please. I was hooked and will be anticipating reading the rest of Kanes books!! I loved this. Reading as a mother, I would do the same I feel! Like every choice she made, I was nodding my head in agreement! How far would you go for for your family??
A Mother’s Revenge by Alex Kane is an intense, fast-paced thriller that delivers on its premise, offering a gripping journey of vengeance, deception, and unexpected twists. The title itself promises a story about a mother seeking justice for her son, and Kane masterfully builds a narrative that is both suspenseful and emotionally charged, keeping readers on the edge of their seats from beginning to end.
The plot kicks off with a clear motive: a mother, driven by grief and fury, embarks on a relentless pursuit of revenge against those she holds responsible for her son’s suffering. What begins as a straightforward quest for justice quickly spirals into a much larger and more complex web of lies, secrets, and hidden truths. As the mother digs deeper into the circumstances surrounding her son’s plight, she uncovers a series of shocking revelations that force her to question everything she thought she knew about the people involved—and, ultimately, about herself.
Alex Kane excels at maintaining a fast-paced, tension-filled atmosphere throughout the novel. The writing is sharp, with a constant undercurrent of suspense that heightens the stakes as the plot unfolds. Each new piece of information the protagonist uncovers adds a layer of complexity to the story, and the constant shift between what is real and what is not keeps the reader guessing. Kane is particularly skilled at creating an unreliable world where nothing is quite as it seems, and every new twist adds to the tension and intrigue.
At the heart of the novel is the protagonist’s relentless determination. This mother is a force to be reckoned with, willing to go to extreme lengths to seek revenge on behalf of her son. Her motivations are clear and deeply emotional, yet her journey also forces her to confront her own values, biases, and moral boundaries. The character development here is notable, as the protagonist’s emotional growth is as much a part of the story as her quest for vengeance. Kane does a solid job of balancing the action-driven plot with the internal struggles of the character, making her both relatable and compelling.
While the action is thrilling and well-executed, the real strength of *A Mother’s Revenge* lies in its exploration of themes like justice, morality, and the complexities of human motivation. The novel challenges the reader to consider the fine line between right and wrong, and whether the pursuit of revenge is ever truly justified—or whether it ultimately leads to destruction.
The twists in the story are well-timed and well-constructed, keeping the reader invested until the very end. However, there are moments where the pacing slows down slightly as the protagonist sifts through layers of deception, and while these moments add to the overall intrigue, some readers may find them a bit drawn out. Nevertheless, the book builds to a satisfying and thought-provoking conclusion, one that leaves readers reflecting on the events long after the last page is turned.
In conclusion, *A Mother’s Revenge* is a thrilling, action-packed novel that delivers on its promise of a mother seeking justice, but also offers so much more. Alex Kane crafts a story that keeps you questioning what’s real, what’s fake, and just how far one person will go when they’re driven by love and loss. The novel’s combination of suspense, character depth, and unexpected twists makes it an engrossing read for fans of psychological thrillers and action-packed dramas.
This is a great gangland thriller.
Cheryl is happily married to Leo and adores their son Dean. When she discovers that Dean has been murdered, her grief is overwhelming.
Cheryl then realises that someone needs to pay for her son's death, and she wants them to suffer the same pain she has.
Cheryl goes head to head with Janey Hallahan who runs the gangs in Glasgow and is not a woman to be messed with. However, Cheryl is determined to get revenge for her son's death so will do whatever it takes.
This is a fast paced, gritty thriller that I really enjoyed.
Thanks to Hera publishers for the opportunity to read this book.
This is the 3rd book in the series, but it could be read as a standalone.
The story is very fast paced and a very gritty story, not for the faint hearted.
Murder and revenge is prevalent in this gripping story
Cheryl Davidson is married to Leo and together they have a son, Dean. Dean is mixed up in Glasgow’s underworld, which he was introduced to by his father. As a result of being involved in this seedy and unpalatable business, until he is found shot and killed.
Dean was Cheryl’s life and his demise empowers her to seek revenge on her son’s killers. She comes up against Janey Hallahan the leader of Glasgow’s gangland, her main business being guns and drugs. Cheryl soon learns that what she thought she knew is lacking in fact and she slowly uncovers the truth about her family and their involvement in something much worse.
The story is gritty and harsh and has plenty of twists to keep you guessing to the end. The subject matter made this book a little difficult for me to read, although overall I enjoyed it.
My thanks to Hera and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘A Mother’s Revenge’ written by Alex Kane in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
When Cheryl Davidson’s only son Dean is killed and dumped in a scrapyard she blames the Hallahans and especially Janey Hallahan. Janey and her husband Ciaran have been deliberately targeted in a car crash leaving Ciaran in a coma and Janey who has minor injuries seeking revenge on whoever planned it.
Although ‘A Mother’s Revenge’ is the third in this gritty gangland series set in Glasgow it can also be read as a standalone without detracting from the background history of the Hallahans. It involves Cheryl Davidson who wants someone to pay for killing her son, together with her husband Leo and his boss Marek Kiminski who are illegally trafficking young girls and boys. The story is thrilling with plenty of suspense and twists that have kept me involved, and tension that gradually increased as it approached the exciting and very fitting conclusion.
Cheryl Davidson was perfectly happy in life with her husband Leo and their son Dean (the apple of her eye). That was until her darling son was found in an isolated scrapyard with a bullet through his head.
Cheryl discovers that Dean was mixed up in Glasgow’s underworld, up to his eyes in crime, but what makes it even worse is that it was his own father Leo, who brought him into that world, and that man is going to pay!
On the other side of the fence is Glasgow gangland boss Janey Hallahan, herself grieving for her daughter. Two grieving women hell bent on revenge - the stage is set!
I haven’t read author Alex Kane before, but I can say that the narrative was raw and gritty, there was some clever plotting, meticulous detail, and an all too credible cast of characters, some with a wry sense of humour, and let’s not forget some neat little twists along the way, and then perhaps you’ll see why this made for a great read!
Another brilliant read it had me gripped, one of my favourite series. When crime boss Janey Hallahan and cieran her husband are intentionally run of the road, cieran is in a coma and janey in hospital? Someone's out to get them arnt they? Orla ,janeys daughter was killed and sinead her other daughter is a drug addict currently in rehab.. Molly Rose is janeys grand daughter and she was captured into a human trafficking ring, but Janey saved her. The subject content is a delicate one and I thought the author write it very well and sensitively, who could ever imagine what those young children go through. The family is dysfunctional but all pull together in times of need, plus it also helps if in your family is a feared crime boss !!! 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟from me
A MOTHER'S REVENGE - Part of an unknown to me series, which unfortunately, I did not know existed. Fortunately, I did not need to have read them. AMR briefly mentioned bits and bobs from the past of several characters but there was no rehashing of the previous books. Interesting story lines with interesting characters set at a good pace made this a difficult to put down read. I want to read the first two books and others by Ms. Kane. Source: Netgalley. 5*
She's lost her son now they will pay the price.
Gangland thriller.
15 years old Cheryl falls for Leo Davison love at first sight the age gap of six years doesn't bother her and unknown to everyone they elope when she is sixteen.
A happy marriage Leo spoils her rotten but after the murder of their twenty-one year old son taking out by Leo's boss she now wants justice for her son.
This book hits all the spots, a good read with loads of action.
The characters blend in so well together.
Another smash hit read.
Loved it.
Having previously read Alex Kane's previous books and enjoyed them I really enjoyed this one. What a great read
Thank you for the opportunity to review
Another well written and crafted fast paced gangland thriller, set in Glasgow, from the author. The characterisation is very good, it was easy to empathise with some characters in the story, which is a bit heartbreaking but handled with sensitivity. The tension really ramped up as events unfolded, with the dramatic ending nicely wrapped up, hopefully for a follow up. A really enjoyable thriller. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
I love a gangland crime book and this one is up there with Kimberly Chambers and Martina Cole! This book was fast paced, jam packed full of twists and turns to keep me guessing ! It was a total rollercoaster read! Literaly couldn’t put it down! I hadn’t read the other 2 books but it wasn’t a problem. Im now going back to read them!
