What a delightful dive into a world where cuteness and darkness blend!
Lamb is adorable & charming, making it easy to root for him as he navigates the treacherous path of cult leadership. I love Lamb’s journey to overthrow the oppressive Old Faith and establish his own cult.
The color palette used is dark and rich perfectly capturing the eerie atmosphere of the story.

Cult Of The Lamb Vol. 1 - Alex Paknadel
Pub date: Dec 3rd 2024

The artwork by Troy Little is both cute and horrifying, a perfect match for the story’s themes.
I feel like this graphic novel stays true to the game’s essence, it also expands the mythology in intriguing ways.

Thank you @onipress & @netgalley

I was so excited when I saw this book I was so excited! I absolutely adore this game and I know the story but seeing it in graphic novel form is just really exciting. I love that people who don't play the game can read the story and finally understand what I'm rambling about. I can't wait to make all of my friends read this!

Well organized and illustrated. This game has such a 'cult' following (excuse my pun) I do expect this to be wildly popular. That the author has scraped an interpersonal plot together out of a dungeon crawling game is delightful. Some may balk at how the story is gore-y, but anyone who was into FNAF (Five Nights at Freddies) Is bound to be a fan of this.

(Full disclosure: I received a free e-ARC for review through Netgalley. Content warning for general gore and violence.)

Young Lamb, an endling, was selected by the four Bishops of the Old Faith as a sacrifice, to keep the Old Gods sealed from their realm forever. But when Lamb dies, he's given the chance for revenge - by a godlike creature known as the One Who Waits. His only stipulation? Lamb must start his own cult. And so Lamb travels the land, rescuing poor souls who are about to be sacrificed, as he once was, and slaying the emissaries of the Old Faith. But in his quest for vengeance - and reverence - will he betray his most faithful?

Soooo, I'd never heard of the video game on which CULT OF THE LAMB is based until I stumbled on this title on Netgalley. Perhaps I might have understood or even enjoyed it a bit more if I had? As it was, I found the plot line and underlying messages rather confusing. Mostly it was the specifics (or maybe just the semantics?) of the religion that tripped me up: why, for example, would members of the Old Faith reject the Old Gods? I assume that Lamb's benefactor intended for him to build a cult with which to slay with Old Faith, but we never really get to the end game.

To be fair, this is the first volume in a series. That said, I'm just not that invested to continue with the journey.

Which is really unfortunate, because the artwork in CULT OF THE LAMB? F-ing amazing. The gods are horrendous, Lamb and his cute and fuzzy wuzzy brethren are suitably adorable, and the colors POP. Visually, CULT OF THE LAMB is a fea(s)t. Which is why I might just check out the video game, even if my time with the comic book has hit a wall.

This graphic novel is based off a video game of the same title. Even if you've never played the video game, this is still an enjoyable read. The illustrations are adorable, but dark and gruesome at times. It was a quick read but the plot was interesting. I would definitely recommend this book for a YA collection, especially if your young adult demographics are into video games.

I LOVED the game and I LOVE the comic! Just a quick heads-up! You don't need to know the game to understand the comic! The story is very close to the events of the game, but just captures the whole thing more emotionally through the panels and art imo. I didn't think it was possible to make sense of a roguelike, a building and management simulation and an action adventure in a comic, but it's been done and it's great!! The art is cute and the fights are relentless, and kudos to writer Alex Paknadel and artist Troy Little for pulling it off! A fantastic blockbuster-like comic debut! I had so much fun!

I loved this volume of Lamb and his followers. Lamb became my favorite as I continued to read but I also like Nana.
This was very bloody, very violent but I loved every graphic cell. Every picture. So well drawn.
I didn’t want this graphic novel to end. I am VERY excited to read the second volume!

I loved every second of this. I love the game and this graphic novel just added more for me. I hadn’t expected to get attached during this as usually graphic novels aren’t long enough for me to attach to characters but I did with this one.

I also really love the artwork, it encompasses everything the game does and compliments it really well.

Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!

I enjoyed the cult of the lamb videogame. The comic is direct adaptation of the story, and as far as video game adaptations go it's pretty good especially considering there wasn't much plot to begin with. It mentions all the mechanics in different light.

It's only 100 pages long so there's little I can say without spoiling it I cried at the end. It gets pretty dark. Also the decapitaion jokes rock.

The lamb needs to be protected at all costs.

I loved the game and when I saw this I knew I had to read the lamb’s story too. The art is amazing and I was surprised it still followed the game story line pretty well. This comic is as good as the actual game. 10/10

this was SUCH a fun read, I had a blast and was grinning every time I opened the book. As such a huge fan of the game, it was awesome to be able to see the lore of the world come to life and spend more time with the Lamb. The art is absolutely stunning, and has that special touch that made the game so instantly loveable. I can't wait to buy a physical copy and see how beautiful it looks in print!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Oni Press for the advanced copy!

My husband and I recently started playing this game together, so when I saw this on NetGalley I was intrigued! It’s a dark game, so naturally it’s a dark comic. But it was fun to see the lore of the game come to life! I like the game more, but I understand more of what’s going on in the game now after reading this.

I recommend this only to people who have played the game or are interested in playing the game. Otherwise, I’d avoid it.

This was hard to get into. I enjoyed the illustrations but the story was really hard to get into. I may go back and reread it at some point.

So good! Beautiful art. Really makes me want to play it again! Loved the addition of Nana, and what her character added to the depth of the story.

"Cult of the Lamb" really captures that unique blend of whimsy and darkness. The comic expands on the game's intriguing lore while introducing new elements that keep things fresh. It’s fascinating how the colorful art contrasts with the brutal themes, creating a captivating experience. The balance of humor and horror adds depth to the characters and their journeys, making the story feel both engaging and thought-provoking.

thank you to author and publisher for the arc!

This was honestly such an adorable yet very gory graphic novel. I’ve played the game before and loved the coziness of it but the novel gives the story a whole new feeling! Somehow it feels just as cute but also more mature, which I really enjoyed.

I think fans of the game will become obsessed with this graphic novel!

As an avid Cult of the Lamb player, I knew I had to pick this up when it was up for review. I love the artstyle of the game and that really came across in the graphic novel, and the story felt really consistent with the world and the lore that I know and love.

Really really enjoyed this, and can't wait for more!

I received an arc of this graphic novel in exchange for an honest review.

This was so much fun to read. I really enjoy the Cult of the Lamb video game, and often watch content creators on Twitch and YouTube play it. That it's being turned into a graphic novel format is even more exciting though. I love that it might expand on the story some more in a different way. I love consuming media in different forms like this, and wasn't disappointed at all. I did feel it was a little disjointed so that is why it's only a 4.5 and not a 5, but that is still a really high rating. The story itself grabs you from the start, which is a plus, and I really loved the side characters like Nana. Nana was definitely my favorite. The art is so well-done. Beautiful seems an odd word to use when talking about this graphic novel that displays blood, gore, vomit, and poop in it, but nonetheless it's a fitting word. I definitely intend to recommend this to friends and family that I know who enjoy the game, and to my community in general.

As a fan of the Cult of the Lamb video game, I was excited to dive into this graphic novel adaptation. Cult of the Lamb Vol. 1 captures the dark charm and eerie humor of the game while expanding the lore in intriguing ways. The artwork by Troy Little perfectly complements Alex Paknadel’s storytelling, creating a twisted yet captivating world. The story’s pacing is solid, though it occasionally feels rushed. Still, it’s a great continuation of the game's narrative, and I look forward to seeing where Lamb’s journey leads next. Four stars!
