Cosmic Self-Care is the perfect mix of ritual knowledge and different types of magic to bring your body into perfect harmony. I love the fact that it contains tarot card spreads, manifestation mantras, crystal spells, affirmations, and herbal bath rituals. It also contains much more so I think there is a little something for every spiritual person wanting to expand on their self care. The directions are easy to follow and doesn’t ask for anything crazy unreasonable. I highly recommend this book for the spiritual person in your life!
The illustrations were absolutely gorgeous and I loved the different rituals that were described. What drew me to this book was the variety of rituals that followed different cycles: the lunar cycle, seasons, zodiac signs, and the witch's wheel. My favorite rituals fell under the zodiac signs and the lunar cycle, but I enjoyed reading and learning about seasonal and witch's wheel related rituals. I will definitely keep an eye out for future books by Huang. Thank you NetGalley for an ARC.
This is a lovely seasonal book for those who are into astrology and Wicca. There are rituals related to holidays, zodiac signs, seasons and planetary events and some affirmations. Most of the rituals are fairly simple and involve things like letting go and making money. I didn’t find much that would work for me personally but I am not the proper demographic. It would make a good gift for someone new to these practices.
I read a temporary digital loan of this book for review.
This book is so informative and very easy to use. It has very practical rituals and also explains why the ritual matters.
This is an approachable book abut selfcare based around astrology, complete with beautiful calming and peaceful illustrations for each chapter. It is a great beginner book for those looking to ad seasonal practices based around the month and zodiac signs with a description, recipe and instructions, and affirmation for each one. This would also be useful for the seasoned practitioner looking to come back to a simple practice and reset.
As someone who has recently starting practising selfcare this is such a good book. As someone who is also an eclectic pagan it is extremely easy to tie into my other practices to focus on mind, body and spirit.
The book itself is laid out perfectly so you can either read through or go to sections that resonate with you at the moment in time. The illustrations are actually stunning. The tone and style of the book is so cosy as well. Sometimes I have found self-care and self-help books can come across rather dogmatic, sound judging or as if you are being told what to do and what not to do. That is not the case here. The tone is soft and guiding, you feel like you are being offered help and advice by a friend rather than someone just telling you what is wrong and what is right. For me, as a sufferer of anxiety I found this so helpful.
If you are just stepping onto a more spiritual path, are already well travelled or are just curious this book will be a wonderful aid. It’s well written, stunningly illustrated and contains all you need to start your self-care journey.
As always thank you to Leaping Hare and Netgalley for my copy. My review is always honest, truthful and freely given.

Book Review: Cosmic Self-Care: Spiritual Rituals for Modern Mystics by Katie Huang & Phe Johnson
Rating: 4 Stars
I recently dove into Cosmic Self-Care: Spiritual Rituals for Modern Mystics by Katie Huang, beautifully illustrated by Phe Johnson, and it’s been quite the enlightening journey! This book is essentially a treasure trove of self-care rituals tailored for modern mystics like myself. With a whopping 60 accessible rituals, it draws from an array of cosmic practices, including astrology, tarot, lunar phases, and seasonal changes. Whether you're looking to harness the energy of the stars or simply enjoy a little pampering, this guide has something for everyone year-round.
One of the standout features of Cosmic Self-Care is how it methodically breaks down the rituals according to the zodiac year, the witch’s wheel of the year, and even the lunar cycle. It’s such a thoughtful way to bring ancient practices into our daily lives. I was particularly enchanted by the variety of rituals offered—from a dreamy New Moon in Pisces bath ritual to a vibrant Scorpio tarot spread for shadow work. Each ritual is infused with intention, making them feel personal and special.
What I truly appreciate about this book is its cozy vibe. The authors have created a warm, inviting space for beginners like myself to explore spiritual traditions without feeling overwhelmed. The explanations are simple yet informative, providing a lovely backstory for each celebration—be it zodiac rituals or lunar practices. It’s clear that both Huang and Johnson understand the importance of context when it comes to honoring these timeless traditions.
And can we take a moment to talk about the illustrations? They are absolutely stunning! Phe Johnson's artwork adds a delightful visual element that complements the text beautifully. It's one of those books that you'll want to have displayed on your shelf—not just for its content but also for its aesthetic appeal. I can already see myself reaching for a physical copy to always have on hand.
Overall, I would give Cosmic Self-Care a solid 4 stars. It’s engaging, informative, and wonderfully illustrated. There’s no doubt that I am already planning my next ritual, armed with knowledge and inspiration from this charming guide. If you’re looking to celebrate cosmic traditions in a personal and meaningful way, this book might just become your new favorite companion!

You'll find a wonderful balance between theoretical depth about the cosmos 🌌 and practical self-care tips. It's like having an astrologer 👩🚀 and a life coach 📋 all wrapped up in the same book!
The author's informal yet informed tone makes it a breezy read. Whether you’re a novice stargazer or you've got your telescope set up in the backyard, this is one book you don’t want to miss out on! 🌠🔭
In a nutshell, "Cosmic Self-Care" will give you a fresh perspective and insight into your own life. Who knew self-care could be this out-of-this-world? 🪐💫

Firstly, this is such a beautiful looking book. The illustrations are colourful, positive and so so stunning!
I have to admit, there wasn't a lot in here that I didn't already know/have some awareness of. It wasn't new or original information. But, think due to its sheer beauty, this book would make a great gift.
This was a lovely read. The pages are neatly and clearly laid out so easy to follow and it is a great book to dip in and out of.
I loved the illustrations, colours and wise words.
Thank you for the advanced reader copy.
"As nature cycles through birth, growth, decay, and rebirth, we too experience these phases in our lives. By honoring these cosmic rythms, we tap into a deeper understanding of ourselves and our connection to the World around us. it's a reminder that we are not separate from nature, we're an integral part of it."
Cozy self-care rituals, beautiful illustrations, information about the origin of rituals and what the ritual signifies, this book has everything I need to start celebrating and honoring cosmic traditions. This book breaks down the meaning of each celebration whether it be Zodiac rituals, lunar rituals or planetary rituals and how we can celebrate them. One of my favorite elements of this book are the beautiful illustrations, for that alone I will be adding a physical copy of this book on my shelf. This book has about 60 rituals to honor these timeless celebrations on a very personal level. I love how this book assumes I am a novice, which is what I need! It is broken down simply with a lovely origin story of each zodiac, lunar, astrological, planetary phase etc. and the meaning behind each.
This is the sort of book that you want a physical copy of just for the beautiful illustrations. I love how the author incorporates journaling elements in this as well. There are plenty of simple rituals that can get you started with manifestation, gratitude and affirmations. All the required ingredients/crystals are pretty easy to find and most of the rituals that required ingredients, I would imagine most people already have access to in their homes. I did take part in one ritual "The Summer Ritual", and I felt a profound sense of gratitude, peace and appreciation for mother nature
I highly recommend checking out Katie Huang's book "Cosmic Self-Care". I know I will be incorporating these rituals in the weeks to come and I am so excited to add this as part of my self-care routine!
Cosmic Self-Care is a fun and inspiring guide to honouring the natural rhythms of life, from the changing seasons and the wheel of the year to the cycles of the moon. The book is full of creative ideas for self-care tied to these times of the year. Each ritual is laid out beautifully, with an explanation on one page and ingredients and instructions on the other, making it easy to follow. I'm excited to try some of these rituals throughout the next year and see how they connect with life's natural flow!
With wonderful, vibrantly colored illustrations and mindful self-care rituals, Cosmic Self-Care is terrific. There’s a lot in here; I really liked many of the seasonal rituals and have put some dates on my calendar of specific ones I’d like to add to my life.
I got a lot from this book.
This is one I’ll be getting for my own bookshelf and it’s a recommendation from me for anyone looking to embrace some new self-care practices.
Thank you to Leaping Hare Press and NetGalley for the DRC
Mystics and non-mystics alike would benefit from this solid framework for consistent self-care, presence, meditation, and self-awareness. I have read similar books and this one has provided the clearest explanations of the lunar, planetary, zodiac, and wheel of the year calendars. The rituals, though requiring crystals and candles for most, are very doable without over-the-top instructions. I will be purchasing and recommending this to all.
"Whether you resonate with the Moon's phases, the zodiac seasons, the Wheel of the Year, planetary transits, or all of the above, this book has got you covered."
This book has a lot! I think the rituals in it are pleasant and well-thought-out. One thing to note is that because all of these rituals are tied to a specific date or season, you are limited by that. You can't just open it up and find a ritual for any time. I think the only ones that definitely cover all days are the zodiac seasons. All the others are very specific times.
My favorite part was the explanations about the Wheel of the Year and different seasons.
It has a thorough table of contents and a usable index, which I love.
Although most of this information is available for free online in some place or the other, if you do want to buy it in book form to have it altogether, this is a great book.
This review is also posted to my Goodreads.
While I can’t tell you if any of these rituals work I can say this book is full of fun ways to honor the rhythms of life be they the changing seasons, the wheel of the year, new and full moons etc. Each one laid out with a explanation on one page and ingredients and instructions on the other. I’m interested to try these over the course of the next year.
