This was such a fun short story collection. I’d definitely recommend this one for Halloween! These stories were very submersive and spooky. 🎃 4/5 ⭐️.
My favorites of this collection were Rain, Last Halloween, and Russian Dollhouse.
Jason Parent's *Mischief Night Massacre: Ten Tales of Halloween* is a captivating anthology that masterfully encapsulates the essence of Halloween through ten diverse and chilling stories. Each tale transports readers to settings ranging from haunted houses to eerie amusement parks, delivering a unique blend of suspense and horror. Parent's storytelling prowess shines as he crafts narratives that are both thrilling and thought-provoking, making this collection a must-read for horror enthusiasts seeking to immerse themselves in the macabre spirit of the season.
This is a collection of ten stories all with those Halloween vibes. From Halloween parties to haunted houses, heck, even a creepy ass amusement park, this collection will definitely terrify any reader.
A solid collection of creepy stories for Halloween!
I really enjoyed this collection of short stories. Jason Parent offers the reader diverse settings, characters and threats throughout this book. Many focus on the setting of Halloween, but there are also a few exceptions.
But each of them is unsettling, creepy and unnerving in varying degrees. There is the horror of a school bully picking on the wrong child, thieves choosing the wrong house to rob, a group of teens getting more than they bargained for in a haunted house, or a very interesting take on a newly-changed vampire, among many other unique stories.
I'm positive that every reader will find a favorite story in this collection.
Like most anthologies, the stories were hit and miss for me. Some I really liked and some were just “meh”. But they were all Halloween centered, and that made the book a fun read for Halloween.
I didn't know that this book was compiled of multiple short stories, however I was pleasantly surprised with this one!
The stories were quick and scary, and it was the perfect Halloween read.
Jason Parent’s “Mischief Night Massacre” is an anthology that captures the essence of Halloween with ten terrifying tales. Each story is a masterclass in suspense and horror, making it a perfect read for fans of the genre.
Parent’s writing shines in his vivid descriptions and ability to evoke fear. Whether it’s a haunted house, a creepy amusement park, or a seemingly harmless Halloween party, each setting is brought to life with meticulous detail. The stories are not just about scares; they explore themes of regret, fear, and the human condition, making them resonate on a deeper level.
However, some stories might be too graphic for the faint-hearted, with detailed depictions of violence and gore. But for those who enjoy a good scare, “Mischief Night Massacre” delivers in spades. The dark humor sprinkled throughout adds a nice touch, providing brief moments of relief before plunging back into the horror.
Overall, “Mischief Night Massacre” is a must-read for horror enthusiasts looking for a collection that embodies the spirit of Halloween. Parent’s storytelling prowess ensures that each tale is memorable and haunting, making this book a worthy addition to any horror lover’s library.
I love Halloween, and I love horror short story collections. This was a great set of stories, and I had to take breaks between reading the stories because I wanted to keep the mood. There's quite a variety -- none of them felt the same, and some of them were much darker than others. The first one is going to stay in my head longest because the world felt so real and scary.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
This is a fun collection of Halloween Night horror short stories. Though they are short stories, the author does a great job with giving enough character building to be invested in the story.
There are a lot of (intentionally) POS characters in here and a lot of horrifying revenge.
I felt that some stories lacked in explanation, some dragged on, but most were just right.
Stories 2 and 3 stood out to me, and story 8 was the most unsettling.
Overall a good time!
10 halloween centered short horror stories
with multiple themes such as amousement parks, tick or treating, parties, haunted houses, haunted children and all the supernatural around us!
it felt more of a ya/ teen slasher horror
very gorey but not as descriptive as some horror authors
i have alot of favourites from this but Easy Pickings and Ride Like the Devil were amazing!
Just what it says on the tin
An anthology of spooky Halloween stories
Some are hits, some are not
Great for the season
I love a good collection of short stories. I love Halloween. So of course, I would love a collection of short stories based around Halloween!
Ride like the Devil and Pulp were my favorites of this collection, though I didn't think any of the ten stories were bad! This will be a reread next October for sure. I liked the blend of different types of horror and pacing of the stories.

This mini collection of horror stories were quite interesting. Each story was unique in it's own way. The suspense and thrill was captivating, I was truly amazed by some of the stories.
I enjoyed this novel. I would recommend this novel for readers who would are interested in scary, dark thrills. It's worth a read.
3.5 stars rounded up. This was an entertaining collection of Halloween stories. It was creepy and gory and felt like mini horror movies in book form. I'm someone who gets scared and grossed out easily, but I could handle these stories well enough. They were the right amount of creepy for me, though there were some parts that made me feel squeamish.
I read an ARC of this book from NetGalley. All comments are my own.
Thank you netgalley and publisher.
Its ok for a short halloween read with mini stories reminds me of goosebumps. Descrption of monsters and death was good.
this was so good it was a perfect Halloween read for me. it reminded me of the book series in a dark dark room when i was in middle school but this one is the adult version of it. i loved it.
This was my first book by this author and I think ones enough…
Despite being classed as an Adult horror it read like a goosebumps book with swear words and slurs. The stories that centred around children were especially immature. Just because the characters are kids does not mean the story should read like a kids book.
There were little moments of horror that were disgusting and the descriptions of the creatures and deaths were well done so if there was more of that and less of the characters giving each other wedgies (🙄) this would have been a better rating
(There was use of the R-slur)
Mischief Night Massacre is a Halloween anthology of 10 short stories that I read for this season! I rated it 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ because while I really enjoyed the first story, Russian Dollhouse, and the fourth story, Keeping Up Appearances, quite a bit, many of the other stories fell a little short for me.
I’m not usually one I read anthologies, and this book just backed up my reasoning- I’d rather read a fully fledged novel than a book of short stories where some are lacking. But I would recommend this book based off the two stories above! 🎃
This book is out now!
Thank you to @netgalley for an advanced copy!
Thanks to NetGalley and Corpus Press for this e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. 'Mischief Night Massacre by Jason Parent' is ten stories of horror and gore.
4 out of 5 for me this time.
There are some editing issues throughout, including, but not excluding, spelling errors, misused words, and grammar errors in general.
I rather enjoyed these stories, they're not very scary, but a lot doesn't scare me.
The only problem I have with this book is the editing And how some stories are worse than others with the errors. It just doesn't make sense to me.
I would recommend this if you like short stories about horrible things.
Great for adults of all ages. Full of gore, twists and heart racing action.
unfortunately this book didn't work for me personally but i'm still glad i read this for halloween.
🦇 the main thing i struggled with while reading this was the writing style. each story was told in a way that i didn't quite manage to find engaging.
🦇 the stories weren't all that creepy for me. going in i thought i'd feel grossed out or scared but that wasn't the case. however, the spooky vibe was still there, but not in a way i expected or wanted.
🦇 sadly i don't think i had any favourite stories but the first one did make me a tad bit uncomfortable cos i don't do worms 😬
🦇 thank you to netgalley for providing a copy of this book!
