This book was so cute! I loved how the mom validated Billu and told him that he is fine even when his buttons are mismatched! I also love how the other kids were so nice to him and came dressed as him for his birthday!

This is a fantastic book!
I thought that this was a brilliant story about a wonderful little Sikh boy who is learning to dress himself.
My daughter is 7 now so we went through this when she was a little younger, and it did take a while to get those fiddly buttons on her school shirt sorted so we could really sympathise with how tricky it can be to get it right and we did have more than a few misaligned shirts.
I liked the main character and his personality - he is confident enough to know that whilst he might not look perfect, he is fine with the way he looks - and that is a really important message to get across to children at any age and I loved that the other children in his class were also inspired with him and started to dress in their own way too.
The book is very well written and easy to follow with some brilliant illustrations.
It is 5 stars from me for this one - very highly recommended - a fab addition to any school library!

I'm not going to lie - I teared up reading the author's note at the end of this book. The illustrations are fun and Billu's classmates are a diverse group, so many children will get to see bits of themselves reflected on the pages of this story. I love the message about confidence and growth mindset - that's it's ok if something isn't perfect. You try and try again, and you learn. It's a wonderful children's book!

I adored this book, it was very refreshing and has a positive message for people of all ages . Being able to have self confidence, love, patience with one's self and appreciation for who you are despite what others may view as “imperfections “ is so important to instill in young children . I would recommended this book to young kids.
